Mumbai: After 3 Idiots, it’s yet to-be-released Rann’s turn to feature in a writer-director controversy over the script. Days after author Chetan Bhagat and the 3 Idiots team buried their hatchet over the film’s script, writer Sonal Mehta has moved the Bombay HC against filmmaker Ramgopal Verma, claiming breach of confidential information and infringement of her copyright in the literary work, including screen-play and script, of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Rann.
Mehta said the infringement occurred as the film was originally titled Success Story and thereafter tentatively titled Break Ke Baad by the director and producers of Rann. She has demanded that the release of Rann be stopped.
Mehta has also approached the Film Writers’ Association and sought monetary compensation for the work reportedly done by her. The producers of the film represented by law firm Naik, Naik & Co said they would file their reply by Friday.
Mehta’s grouse was that she was given no credit. But Varma said that the film was written by Rohit Banawlinkar and not by Mehta.
