What do you call someone whose eyes control the sunrise and the moon shine? What do you call who is the inspiration to many a poet globally? What do you call someone who is highly intellectual, yet is a part of an ‘Idiotic’ gang? Well, mince no names, as we are indeed talking about the one and only ‘Oomph-mati’ that the silver screen has ever seen: Kareena Kapoor!
And it is the very same Kareena Kapoor who is on the cover of the widely read magazine GQ for the month (January 2010). What a way to start the New Year by having the eternal glowing Miss Kapoor as the cover-girl! From the looks of it, Kareena looks nothing short of being Miss Perfect. Well, we are no one to challenge perfection, are we? All that we can say is that; do watch out for Kareena’s honest-than-thou confessional statements on topics ranging from films, marriage and of course…Saif, about whom she says “Saif comes from a very cultured background; he is a man of the world. And he’s seen so much of life; he’s got his head very firmly on his shoulders. I can connect with this guy. He has a good sense of humour; a charming man with a lot of culture. He always liked me on screen. He said I was someone he always wanted to meet.”
Keeping the tradition of ‘Keep the best for last’, we really do have to mention that this issue of GQ has not one, but two whoppingly sizzling covers, which only means, twice the cover, twice the fun. Kareena is indeed the way to go this season and for the year 2010!

His busy schedule may not permit him the time to watch TVserials, but his wife Pammi gets her daily dose of entertainment from the small screen. “There are some serials that she likes and ardently watches every day,” he says. The Chopras had been planning to get into television for the past couple of years. “It was my son Aditya’s idea. After the release of his film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, he started concentrating on TV. This whole year he has been focussing on this; he has put in a lot of effort,” reveals Chopra Sr.
Talking about their television foray, he says, “YRF TV is an initiative to engage and entertain the entire family through content which combines high-quality production values with contemporary story-telling. The characters, language and environment in our shows are the kind that today’s Indian families can relate to. We are happy that Sony has shown the commitment to back our content.”
This collaboration marks another milestone in the long standing relationship between the two companies, says NP Singh, COO of Sony Entertainment Television. “Yash Raj Films has been making feature films for almost four decades. Television is the biggest mass medium in India and this collaboration will bring the very best in TV entertainment,” adds Singh.
The shows, scheduled over the weekends, promise to be distinct in their look with fresh, contemporary and engaging storylines that reflect the dreams, aspirations and passion of today’s young India. This brand new line-up of five shows, one non-fiction and four fiction, will air every Friday to Sunday between 8 and 10 pm. Here’s a little brief on each of the shows…
Delighted that he had set up two close friends, the matchmaking actor played host at their wedding yesterday
|Neil Nitin Mukesh|
Neil Nitin Mukesh is happy playing another role – that of cupid. Six months ago, he introduced two of his friends at a night club and the happy couple got married yesterday. Sourabh Mahajan and Dipti Kapoor will be heading to New Zealand for their honeymoon.
Our source said, “Neil and Saurabh have been friends since kindergarten and lived in the same area at Napean Sea Road. They have also been in touch since school. Neil introduced Saurabh to Dipti six months ago and the rest, as they say, is history. They were married yesterday and will honeymoon in New Zealand. Neil threw a bachelor party and took care of the wedding details like inviting people, taking care of the music and caterers.”
Neil admitted that he has played the matchmaker with delight. He said, “Saurabh has been my childhood friend and so when he flew in six months ago from the US, I introduced him to my college friend Dipti at one of the clubs.
I told Saurabh that Dipti is the perfect bride and his search ends here. It has been six months and now they are married. We have been friends for 27 years and he is like my brother. I think they are made for each other and I loved doing everything for him. In fact, all my childhood friends have come down from different parts of the world and we are together for these three days.

Prasanna has come down from Australia, Jeetu has come from Ghana and Bhavik from America and the entire gang is here to have loads of fun and to wish them.”
Neil finally said, “We had also arranged a bachelor’s party for him and I am so glad that I could play cupid.”

Karan Johar is back to doing what he’s best at! Grilling stars over coffee. And guess who he’s got in on the barbequecouch in front of him? India’s hottest pairings, Saif and Kareena. The king of coffeeconversation had the real-life jodi squirming in a special tête-à-tête for ZOOM. And from coffee to conversational chemistry, KJo rocked it along with Saifeena for this exclusive Date With Kurbaan, Excerpts from the conversation:
KARAN: Everyone is talking about your steamy scenes in Kurbaan. Would you guys have been able to do it with any other actor?
KAREENA: I’m a professional but since I have seen the scenes, I realise it may not quite have turned out this way with anyone else.
Saif: I would’ve done it, but then there would have to be more accountability and I would’ve had to explain to myself that this was a part of my job. Since it was Bebo, there was no accountability and it was done more intimately and with abandon.
KARAN: Does your past come up between you two?
SAIF: It can and it should come up. I think the most important thing to remember is every part of your past has brought you to your present. Instead of worrying about it, you should thank it for bringing you to where you are.
KAREENA: I felt the need to know everything about Saif first, considering the Casanova he was! I was petrified that I was getting into a relationship with him… but today, I can say, he’s a changed man.
KARAN: What about marriage?
SAIF: Some days she asks me, “Are you going to do that ever?” And I say “In time”. Marriage does impact an Indian acting woman’s career. Kareena has always worked; and very few want a focussed career as badly as she does. Sachin Tendulkar wanted to play cricket as badly as Kareena wants a career, that’s a fact! Emotionally we’re growing and we’re in love. Marriage is not a way to tie somebody down.
After living separately for nearly four years, Rahul Roy and his wife, Rajlaxmi have finally kissed and made up. Rahul now intends to settle for good in Australia where Rajlaxmi, a former model, stays.
After a two-year courtship, the couple had tied the knot in 2000. In 2006, Rajlaxmi shifted base to Australia to learn architecture. Eventually the couple drifted apart because of the distance. One of the reasons why the marriage ran into rough weather was because Rajlaxmi wanted to settle in Australia while Rahul wanted to stay in India. A source said, “Rahul has always loved Rajlaxmi a lot and now he has reached a stage where he wants to spend time with her.” Confirming that everything is fine on the personal front, Rahul said, “I have just returned from Australia and I want to keep my options open of settling there eventually. For now, I intend to travel more often to Australia. I don’t want to discuss my past. I am very happy with my life as it is today.”

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 1, 2009)
Fifteen years after she won the Miss World beauty pageant, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan continues to be the most celebrated Bollywood brand ever. With her waist-length hair cascading down high cheek bones, and striking green-grey eyes, with bodyguards keeping vigilance, she looks every inch the diva she is. And we ask…
How’s it feel to be the most beautiful face in Bollywood 15 years after you won your crown?
• I’m not very good at handling compliments but I accept it with grace. I’m grateful to God, my audiences and my filmmakers —be it Mani Ratnam (Iruvar, Guru, Raavan), Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Guzaarish), Mansoor Khan (Josh), Ashutosh Gowarikar (Jodhaa Akbar), Ram Gopal Varma (Sarkar Raj), Raj Kumar Santoshi (Khakee), Aditya Chopra (Mohabbatein, Dhoom II) and others who never used just my beauty as the fulcrum. Instead, they kept the beauty and the aesthetics going at the same time in each of the film characters I played.
Life has come a full circle. Even after marriage, you still have the best makers backing you.
• These are the same filmmakers I have worked with in the beginning of my career. I got married in the middle of shooting Jodhaa Akbar and when I reported back on his set, Ashu told me that nothing has changed. It just meant so much more hard work for me because when I come to the work front, I don’t want anyone to think of me as being any less professional than I was when I was single. It was important for me to strike the right balance between home and work. All the film-makers I’m working with are super passionate about their work. Thanks to them, I still feel the same adrenaline rush that I always feel when I’m on set.
Earlier this year, you were awarded the Padmashree…
• It has been a memorable year, every other month there has been some honour. I have much to thank God for.
Abhishek and you have tickled audiences with that recent soap commercial.
• It is ten years of my association with the brand. So they suggested that it would be nice to bring Abhishek on board. Honestly, how time flies.
Amitabh Bachchan said it is for you and Abhishek to make him a grandpa whenever…
• Well, if you ask him a question like that, what can he say? It is an apt answer for a parent to give. When I was on the Oprah Winfrey show, I told her that every time there is even a bump, it is assumed that I’m with child. Being pregnant is not something one can conceal. When I am pregnant, the world will know.
Over the years, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor have been quite vociferous about not wanting to work together after his marriage to Karisma Kapoor was called off. Now things seem to be looking up as Kareena and Abhishek are in the mood to move on and have agreed to star together in a film after six years. Buzz is that the two have been signed for Abbas Mustan’s untitled film, a remake of the Hollywood film, Italian Job. The movie will also star Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh in lead roles.
A source says, “Initially talks were on with Saif Ali Khan but he did not have dates and Abhishek Bachchan replaced him. Although Saif and Kareena’s chemistry would have sizzled onscreen, it will be nice to watch Abhishek and Kareena after Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, which was their last film together in 2003. Both actors made their acting debut together in Refugee and have been in the industry for years but have only starred together in two films till date.” While Kareena’s manager Zahid denies that she has signed the film, a source close to Abbas Mustan says, “The directors always had Kareena in mind and now they have managed to get Katrina on board too. The film will go on the floors in April and like every Abbas Mustan film, this too will also be shot on a lavish budget at international locations. The directors are clear about who they want to cast in the film.” The Italian Job (2003) rights are with Studio 18. CEO Sandeep Bhargava of Studio 18 says, “We have the rights of Italian Job. Abbas Mustan are working on the script and will also direct the film. The movie will go on the floors sometime next year.” When asked about the star cast, Bhargava says, “We can’t approach any actors till the script is ready.” Despite several attempts, Abbas Mustan remained unavailable for comment.

They were supposed to get married this month. But the Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra wedding has been postponed again for the lack of a proper wedding venue.
This month, after Shilpa’s schedule for her only pending Bollywood film, The Man with Sunny Deol, got cancelled for the third time, Shilpa and her fiancé Raj Kundra decided to finally wed officially. A source close to Shilpa says, “Raj and Shilpa decided that this was a good time to get married. Coordinating her dates with those of Raj’s for a long pre-planned wedding seemed more and more difficult for Shilpa. So, they decided to get married at the first available opportunity. But there was just one obstacle, the venue.”
Apparently, not a single classy venue was available in Mumbai during this wedding season. Revealed the source, “Raj and Shilpa had decided the wedding would be in Mumbai and not in London. Ideally, they would have liked to have it at their new home in Juhu, but it isn’t ready yet. The couple didn’t want to put off their wedding plans any longer.”
A frantic hunt began for a suitable alternative venue. Shilpa tells us, “I don’t know where you heard this. All I’ll say is, Raj and I are ready for marriage. Nothing is keeping us from taking the plunge except proper timing. Once that’s in place, we’ll get married.”
OMAR QURESHI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; October 9, 2009)
It’s just so easy to hit a soft target. That’s what Rani Mukerji seems to have become for some sections of media — simply because she refuses to respond; holding onto dignity above clarification. But it was time. I had a tough time cajoling her, until she relented. Rejoicing at the accolades she’s got for her superlative act(s) in Dil Bole Hadippa! she was in a happy place. Here’s the Queen Bee in a rare exclusive, about media and more…
The media thinks you take the ‘I-will-talkwhen-I-want-to’ stance too often…
I haven’t changed a bit over the years. But yes, journalism has changed a lot. It’s not my nature to take calls from the media and talk each time I get an SMS about any issue. If it’s something that makes sense to me, I’d probably answer, but not when I’m busy working or spending time with my family. I know that as an actor I have to talk to the media so they can tell the audiences about me. But when that becomes completely wrong and baseless, I switch off and withdraw.
It upset you that people referred to Dil Bole Hadippa! as your ‘comeback film’…
They’re probably trying to use the word ‘she has reinvented herself’. But they end up using ‘comeback’. Which is strange because ‘comeback’ is a phrase used for actresses who get married, have babies and then come back; and none of the two things are happening in my life.
You still get upset when the media writes badly about you?
I don’t get upset. It’s because most of them are the kind of reporters who don’t know me, who’ve never met me in their life. So I don’t care. But what bothers me is when they test my intelligence and make me out to be a person I’m not. Not portraying me correctly to my fans.
You mean like persistent rumours of your marriage?
Exactly! When they write stories about my marriage, I feel really funny and strange. They keep linking me with a certain person. And they’ve been proclaiming that I’m getting married for over last three years. Every six months they decide on a venue and a date. But the date keeps shifting, simply because it’s unsubstantiated. And the media keeps passing it on, like a relay race.
The rumours keep pointing to Aditya Chopra…
I’m not thinking about marriage at all. I’m focusing on my work. There are so many things I want to do. Not that marriage will stop me from doing films. If I’ve found a person with whom I can spend the rest of my life with, yes, I need to marry. Today I don’t think that it’s about the biological clock at all. Marry when you’re ready is the mantra. But I am single, yaar. Can I shout that out?
There was talk that your attempt to ‘patch-up’ Salman with SRK, on Salman’s TV show, upset both of them…
Not true. I don’t get into anybody’s life. I’m too caught-up with my own life. They are my friends and I share a great relationship with them, but I prefer steering clear of controversies.
Not too many actresses say nice things behind your back…
I can’t relate to these things. I’ve genuinely not bitched about anybody behind their back. The fact is that if an actress has made a name for herself — it speaks a lot about her. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be in this industry where people are ready to pull you down. So, I respect every actress simply because they must have something to be able to make a name for themselves.
The latest couple in Bollywood is Rock On!! director Abhishek Kapoor and actress Kim Sharma. Kim, who has dumped all plans to marry her Spanish boyfriend, singer Carlos Marin, said, “I’m definitely not getting married in February 2010 (as reported earlier).”
In the last two weeks, Abhishek and Kim have been spotted painting the town red at several restaurants, coffee shops and nightclubs. They first met through a common friend and instantly clicked. Abhishek’s fling with Kamal Haasan’s daughter, Shruti Haasan is over. “He was close to Shruti till the last month but their relationship has fizzled out,” said a source.
“Now, Abhishek is totally smitten with Kim. And yes, Kim likes him a lot too. They are spending a lot of time together these days. Even when they aren’t together, they are either talking on the phone or texting each other,” added the source.
Both Abhishek and Kim have had their share of affairs. Kim had a torrid relationship with cricketer Yuvraj Singh for four years and after their break-up has seldom been single. Meanwhile, Abhishek has been linked with several actresses in the past.
Although Kim refused to comment on her current relationship, Abhishek said, “I know this is a cliché but Kim and I are just good friends.”
