MOVIES THAT WILL ROCK IN 2010
The following are the films that have big stars and have highest chances of succeeding at the box office:
MY NAME IS KHAN: A winner for sure! Although the film looks serious, it has managed to arouse curiosity. And anyways, the name of Shah Rukh Khan is enough to make almost everyone sit up and take notice. Kajol being paired opp SRK is like an icing on the cake. Also it has talented actors like Jimmy Shergill which, I don’t think, will be revealed in promos till the flick releases on Feb 12. The first look of the film made people assume that it’s based on terrorism. However, it’s not! To quote SRK, “It’s a love story with an epic feel” (Bombay Times). MNIK is thus expected to work not only in India but overseas too.
RAAVAN/RAVANA: Mark my words; this one would rock big big time! Unfortunately, when Bolly websites are discussing 2010 biggies, they aren’t mentioning this flick. There are many reasons as to why this film is special. Firstly, it is directed by talented-creative Mani Ratnam who never goes wrong. Secondly, it’s a present day version of Ramayana. And thirdly and the best part, the star cast and the characters that they play are just out of this world! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Sita but Abhishek Bachchan isnt playing Rama! Instead, he’s Raavan in the film, i.e. the villain! Southern actor Vikram is Rama! Guess who plays Hanuman? None other than apna Govinda! Just imagine-Govinda in Mani’s film! Cool isnt it? Nikhil Dwivedi and Southern beauty Priyamani completes the main cast. The film is bi-lingual-it was shot in Tamil too but with slight change of cast. Vikram who plays Rama in Hindi version is Raavan in the Tamil version (hats off!). Prithviraj Sukumaran instead is Rama in Tamil version! Aishwariya Rai is acting in both the versions! The film is expected to release in Diwali time. Make sure you don’t miss it at any cost!
RANN: Rann, RGV’s take on the media, is expected to be a shocker and a damn interesting flick. Amitabh Bachchan is the lead actor but it is Riteish Deshmukh who is supposed to have given best performance in the film. Suchitra Krishnamoorthy, Rajat Kapoor, Gul Panag, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Neetu Chandra and other talented performers form the rest of the cast. No doubt this would be a powerful flick…something that cannot be missed. Releasing on Jan 29!
RAAJNEETI: The most striking thing about this Prakash Jha-directed film is its killer cast! Besides Jha regulars like Ajay Devgn and Nana Patekar, Raajneeti also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Naseeruddin Shah and Manoj Bajpayee. Katrina will be seen in a powerful rule and won’t be romancing and dancing around! This flick would definitely arouse the highest curiosity at the times of its release (May 28). The only factor that can go against it is its high costs. But hopefully, with such a star cast and relatable storyline, Raajneeti would win hands down!
KITES: One of the most awaited flicks for a majority of moviegoers, Kites has gathered interest with its star cast (Hrithik and Mexican hottie Barbara Mori). The interest intensified when rumours broke out that Sussanne may leave Hrithik as he’s getting too close to Barbara. It seemed like a publicity stunt done by the Roshans themselves. And it paid off so well! The film is now discussed every now and then! Barbara has become a household name! The release date of the film has come out-May 14! A film you can’t afford to ignore!
ANJAANA ANJAANI: Ranbir will get to play a lover boy yet again in Anjaana Anjaani which also stars Priyanka Chopra. It’s produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Siddharth Anand, the super-talented director who made Salaam|Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Ae Haseeno! In other words, enough reason to wait for this film! The latest heard about it was that the film was shot in snowy New York City during Xmas time and that Ranbir has sung one of its songs!
TEES MAAR KHAN: The announcement of the film raised a lot of eyebrows as director Farah Khan casted Akshay Kumar and not her favourite SRK in the film. As expected, rumours poured in as to how relations between Farah and SRK soured! Just like Kites, these rumours, too, has helped in the film’s publicity! The latest buzz is Akshaye Khanna has been added in the cast. The hunt for female lead is still going on. Considering that Farah’s last 2 flicks Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om were biggest entertainers, TMK is surely a film worth waiting for!
WHICH FILM THIS WEEKEND?
The flow of films this year begins from tomorrow. Two medium-budget flicks are scheduled to release-Pyaar Impossible (PI) and Dulha Mil Gaya (DMG). PI, in my opinion, doesn’t look interesting at all. Even the promos are lackluster. Uday Chopra himself has produced it and is heading the marketing campaigns and like his acting, he isnt upto the mark in this field too. However, if the film gets a good response, then it has some chances of succeeding. DMG seems much better than PI. I really feel bad for its producer (Viveck Vaswani), director (Mudassar Aziz) and its team as the film took nearly 3 years due to various problems. But they braved all odds and have managed to get fair deal even from the distributors. The film might not open huge but should pick up by word of mouth if it turns out to be good.
Which film you are interested in? Do let me know!
