Mumbai: Sada Malwankar, the character which has been allegedly inspired by state revenue minister Narayan Rane, may undergo a complete change in Avadhut Gupte’s contoversial film Jhenda.
As reported earlier in TOI, Nitesh Rane, son of Narayan Rane, who saw the film on Thursday, has objected to it and asked the director to delete the entire portion before the film’s release. It is learnt that although Gupte is reluctant to delete the scenes, he may dub the entire dialogue and perhaps even change the character’s name.

Gupte has “allowed the violation of his fundamental right of expression” so that his audience is not prevented from watching the film. He said, “The government may give me protection and even cinema halls may get security, but what if on the day of the release, Nitesh Rane’s men stand outside cinema halls and shout slogans? Nobody will even dare to venture into cinema halls. I want my audience to come and watch the film, which is the reason why I have compromised.” Gupte says he will not release the film till Rane approves the changes.

Gupte is currently negotiating with Rane’s team and updating them about the planned changes. Gupte said, “I really don’t know how much time it is going to take.”
