Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production Crooked is set to go on the floors from January 14 next year. However, the Abhishek Bachchan starrer has no lead actress as Aishwarya, who was supposed to do the film, opted out citing date problems.

Her dates for Crooked were colliding with Vipul Shah’s Action Replay. Since Action Replay is inching towards completion, Aishwarya had to give it priority, leaving her with no choice but to opt out of Crooked, directed by Abhinay Deo. It is a thriller which will be shot at different foreign locales.

Meanwhile, Farhan’s other production directed by Zoya Akhtar featuring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan and Abhay Deol is also stuck as it has no lead actress. The film’s shooting starts from April 5 in Spain. Ritesh says, “We are now looking for a completely new face in Crooked, which actually requires three new girls. We also need a fresh face either from London or New York for Hrithik in Zoya’s film.”

Farhan says, “Hrithik has been a true friend. I start directing Don 2 from September 2010, so Zoya’s film had to be completed before that. Hrithik adjusted his dates accordingly.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is playing the good bahu to the hilt; she is taking charge of the marketing strategy to aggressively promote her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s production, Paa

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 31, 2009)

Amitabh Bachchan has a new ally. He can now count on his bahu Aishwarya Rai’s savvy to help him resurrect ABCL (now AB Corp). She is determined to see that Balki’s Paa is a success and has involved herself in many aspects of promoting the film, including laying down the marketing strategy.

Since she returned from Malshej Ghat after completing her schedule of Mani Ratnam’s Raavana, Paa has become her priority. After all, it stars her beloved Pa and husband Abhishek Bachchan.

A source said, “This is perhaps the first time that Aishwarya is involved in the marketing strategy of a film. Aishwarya wants Paa to be a big box-office success. She is leaving no stone unturned to see that it works with the audience.”

So what exactly is Aishwarya doing for Paa? Our source revealed, “She is taking almost all the marketing decisions related to the film and laying down various strategies on how to promote it. For this, she is spending hours with the creative and the marketing teams.”

The Bachchan men consider her inputs very valuable and most of her suggestions are being implemented in a big way. Director Balki said, “Paa is an AB Corp production. So, I am sure that Aishwarya is involved with the film in different ways.”

When asked to elaborate, Balki said, “Today, a film in not just restricted to promos and trailers in terms of promotion. A lot of events and onground activity also form a part of the promotional strategy. Aishwarya has many wonderful suggestions about the same.”

Paa has an unconventional storyline where Amitabh plays Abhishek’s son. Going all out to make it a commercially viable product, Aishwarya has engineered the holding of certain events. Balki added, “Aishwarya has ideated some thematic events which will add to the excitement of the film. We will be holding those events nearer to the release of the film. Those events will help us reach out to a lot more people. I can’t divulge the theme at this point of time. Paa’s release is still a month away.”

Hrithik Roshan and Monikangana Dutta have passionate kissing and lovemaking scenes in Guzaarish

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 29, 2009)

Hrithik Roshan

The forthcoming Kites is not the only film in which we will see Hrithik Roshan in passionate scenes. After filming sizzling scenes with Barbara Mori in Kites, Hrithik is now ready to make love to super hot model Monikangana Dutta, who plays his former love interest, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish. Evidently Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has no lip lock scene with Hrithik in the film.

A source says, “Although Aishwarya is paired opposite Hrithik, he has intimate scenes with Monikangana. As she plays Hrithik’s former love interest, Bhansali wanted their sizzling chemistry to be quite apparent. Monikangana has a small but very important role and it was imperative that she has intimate lovemaking scenes with Hrithik. Being a debutante actress, the model is nervous about her passionate scenes with the actor.”

“They have not shot for the scene as yet but Bhansali has already briefed the two. Initially, there was also a lip lock scene between Aishwarya and Hrithik but the director later dropped the idea as it wasn’t really necessary. The lovemaking scene between Hrithik and Monikangana is far more crucial as Bhansali wants to highlight their love for each other in his film.Apparently, Hrithik’s wife Sussanne is aware about the passionate scenes and has spoken to Monikangana so that she is less nervous while shooting for them,” adds the source.

The intimate scenes will be shot during the film’s next schedule in January in Goa.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has threatened to stop interacting with his “extended family”

By TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA, August 17, 2009)
Already coping with a bad back, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s flu and friend Amar Singh’s illness, the slanging matches on his blog have upset the Bollywood actor further.

He writes, “A few hospital visits with my friend for routine checks and balances, a stop over at the chemist store en route, to get some tie ups for the back, the gym and the pedometer racing away to near 8,500 steps, to the room to respond to comments and a heavy heart to witness a few familia extendum, using the platform of this medium to get personal and ugly with each other.”

“And each hashed comment that I came across as I scrolled down to the last, that indulged in a slang match, felt like a stab in my precarious rib cage.”

He states, “So here are the options. Either you stop or I stop.”

Earlier, writing about actor Aishwarya’s illness, he said she has “taken ill and is down with chest infection and flu like symptoms. Had a high fever yesterday but is settling down today.”

“Its worrying to be so far away from children and not be there to look after them. Yes, they are mature and married and responsible, but children will always remain children,” a concerned Bachchan added.

Aishwarya Rai is unwell but contrary to rumours, she isn’t suffering from swine flu. In fact, she has a chest infection. Mumbai Mirror had reported on Saturday that she has been shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish despite her ill-health.

But Aishwarya’s condition worsened and she has now been advised complete rest because of which she requested Bhansali to give her two days off from the shoot of his forthcoming film, Guzaarish, in which she stars opposite Hrithik Roshan.

The director readily granted her leave even though she was scheduled to shoot on Monday and Tuesday at Mehboob Studio. Aishwarya is currently under medication and is resting at home.

Vipul Shah is taking every legal precaution to safeguard his next film, Action Replay; makes copycat Pritam sign an anti-plagiarism indemnity
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 15, 2009)

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar

Pritam may be hot property in Bollywood, but he got there with a little ‘help’ from other bands that he has generously ‘borrowed’ from. Now his past is coming back to bite him as he has made his producer Vipul Shah wary, lest he lands the producer into legal tangles. As a safeguard, Vipul has made Pritam sign an indemnity clause for the music of his film Action Replay, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. This is virtually unheard of in an industry that is particularly lax about copyright infringement.

Vipul Shah has become very cautious about derivative material in his films especially after his victory in court against Shree Venkatesh Films who have been accused of lifting material from Namastey London for a Bengali film, Poran Jai Joliya Re. To avoid any potential disasters that might blow up in his face with his next film, Action Replay, the filmmaker is not taking any chances. Given Pritam’s track record, the composer is quite the candidate who is likely to trigger the explosion.

Vipul confirmed, “I have taken a written indemnity from our music composer Pritam that not a single song in Action Replay is a copy. How will I know if he takes something from a Chinese, Taiwanese or Syrian song?”

In fact, the written indemnity says that Pritam will be solely responsible for his compositions and that the filmmaker/ producer will not be liable if his compositions are found not to be original. With no stringent laws in place to check copyright infringement, people like Pritam have been getting away with plagiarism repeatedly.

Pritam said, “I have no problem signing the indemnity as it every producer’s responsibility to make sure that every aspect of his film is fool-proof. However, I do feel the producer shouldn’t always be blamed if any aspect of the film is accused of plagiarism. For instance, if there is an accusation that the film’s story is directly lifted from some other piece of art, then the writer should take responsibility for this. Same goes for other branches of filmmaking.”

Strangely enough, the Bengali filmmakers have accused Vipul of plagiarising a Hollywood film to make his forthcoming film, Action Replay. Vipul’s office has been working round-the-clock to prepare a voluminous defence against the charge that Action Replay is a remake of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Meanwhile, a few people who have seen portions of Action Replay claim that the film bears no similarity to Benjamin Button and is actually a take-off on HG Wells’s The Time Machine.

… says Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who’s doing a third film with the Bollywood hunk, and with Sanjay Leela Bhansali

SUBHASH K JHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; August 13, 2009)

Big news is that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is making a third film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali called Guzaarish after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, and it stars Hrithik Roshan. The actress, trapped in the dense forests of Kerala with husband Abhishek for Mani Ratnam’s Ravana, took a call and spoke to BT about it. “We’ve evolved together, grown as individuals and artistes, we’re both similar — totally driven and passionate, the passion is mutually addictive, we don’t meet for months, but every time we meet — we pick up the threads effortlessly,” said Ash about her filmmaker friend.

But, Guzaarish is going to be different from their first two films. “This time we aren’t going into the glamour zone,” said Ash. “Sanjay was so excited when he found the right script for us to work together in. ‘This is it,’ he said. For the first time I didn’t even read the script before I said yes. It’s a very real, very intense drama. I respect filmmakers like Sanjay, Mani Ratnam and Shankar who make the films they do because
they have to. The family that I’ve married into, this belief and faith in the work we do is predominant. Ma or Pa only go into projects with complete conviction. I follow that faith.”

She laughed when asked whether filmmakers who wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would settle for no other actress, “I don’t know, but when I am not able to do a project they discuss the alternatives with me. I treasure that relationship with my directors where they don’t see me as just their heroine but a collaborator even if I’m unable to do their films.” That apart, Ash is thrilled to be working with Hrithik again. They were offered Mission Kashmir soon after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but she couldn’t meet the schedule, so her role was done by Preity Zinta. Then they almost did Krissh, but that, too, didn’t materialise.

Hrithik has admitted that the former Miss World is his favourite costar. “We did an ad-film together before working in Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa-Akbar. Hrithik, Sanjay and I are like-minded people — very focussed and passionate about our work. The two films Hrithik and I did were poles apart and now Sanjay’s film takes us into a totally different territory.

Like I said, there’s no glam zone in this one. I go completely by my convictions. I chose to do Dhoom 2 after ten years in the industry and not at the start of my career. I was
just cracking a genre. And then I moved on. On the other hand, I was content being totally deglam in Guru. If I get loved by my audience for it, then nothing like it,” she said.
