Nobody can beat Shah Rukh Khan when it comes to taking pot shots at himself. The Bollywood star was at his wittiest when he shared his aspiration of becoming a porn star.

Shah Rukh Khan

The actor was in Delhi to launch management guru Arindam Chaudhuri’s new book ‘Discover the Diamond in You’ when he revealed his desire.

“I always wanted to be porn star. I am going to work with all the positivity and clarity to be a porn star,” Shah Rukh said much to the amusement of the packed audience.

And where did this inspiration arise from? “I have always been a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone who was a porn star before becoming Hollywood superstar,” the actor said.

Shah Rukh, famous for his outrageously funny remarks did tickle the funny bone of the audience who was in for a laugh riot while listening to the actor.

And it was the icing on the cake when the actor said, “I will take my flag and put it up in America after becoming the biggest porn star of the world.”

The whole joke started when Chaudhuri, while reading excerpts from his book gave example of Stallone’s determination and his journey from a porn star to becoming one of the Hollywood’s icons.

He also referred how Akio Morita, founder of Sony, Japanese electronics giant, started the company with a dream to have his country’s flag flutter high on the soils of US. “You see that is what happens with students like me who take all the wrong things from best of the examples given to them,” Shah Rukh jested.

By Kunal M Shah / Keshav Hindelkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 08, 2009)

Neil Nitin Mukesh

Neil Nitin Mukesh is happy playing another role – that of cupid. Six months ago, he introduced two of his friends at a night club and the happy couple got married yesterday. Sourabh Mahajan and Dipti Kapoor will be heading to New Zealand for their honeymoon.

Our source said, “Neil and Saurabh have been friends since kindergarten and lived in the same area at Napean Sea Road. They have also been in touch since school. Neil introduced Saurabh to Dipti six months ago and the rest, as they say, is history. They were married yesterday and will honeymoon in New Zealand. Neil threw a bachelor party and took care of the wedding details like inviting people, taking care of the music and caterers.”

Neil admitted that he has played the matchmaker with delight. He said, “Saurabh has been my childhood friend and so when he flew in six months ago from the US, I introduced him to my college friend Dipti at one of the clubs.

I told Saurabh that Dipti is the perfect bride and his search ends here. It has been six months and now they are married. We have been friends for 27 years and he is like my brother. I think they are made for each other and I loved doing everything for him. In fact, all my childhood friends have come down from different parts of the world and we are together for these three days.

Prasanna has come down from Australia, Jeetu has come from Ghana and Bhavik from America and the entire gang is here to have loads of fun and to wish them.”

Neil finally said, “We had also arranged a bachelor’s party for him and I am so glad that I could play cupid.”

WATCH OUT: Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan

SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 21, 2009)

It’s enough to make Bollywood sit up in horror… but this is not that kind of rumour. Shah Rukh Khan’s stunning and fashionable wife Gauri is reportedly doing a TV show for a popular channel that’s based on investigative crime stories. Not one to get into the reality show genre, Gauri’s production house is working on short crime stories on the lines of the hit TV show CID. Apparently, the buzz is that the Bollywood Badshah would like to rule Tellyland as well. And after producing a couple of shows for the idiot box, SRK is keen to do one like America’s Next Top Model which is hosted by Hollywood sizzler Tyra Banks. For this, Shah Rukh has apparently roped in Bollywood hottie Bipasha Basu and his show will be called Female Model Hunt.

Man of the moment: Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor fell in love with movies while still at school. He talks to Subhash K Jha about love, life and how actors are overrated
TIMES LIFE! (October 18, 2009)

RANBIR KAPOOR’S earliest memories of his grandfather Raj Kapoor make him smile as he gets ready for his first shot for the day in Bhopal where he’s shooting for Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti.

“I was his favourite grandchild. Whenever my mom shouted at me I would call him up and he would fire her. I, being his first grandson, was special. Every weekend, the grandkids used to go to his home in Chembur. He kept a bag of toffees and gave us one every time we salomed him. I once asked him for a suit when he was visiting Russia. He got back two bags of suits in every colour possible. He never shopped for anyone else.” Wonder if the suits had anything to do with it, but Ranbir became an ardent fan of
Raj Kapoor’s cinema in school. “It was during my last days of school. That’s when I realised I wanted to be part of the film industry. The first RK film I saw was Sri 420. It influenced me deeply.”

Ranbir’s father Rishi
Kapoor wanted his son to get a formal education before he became an actor. “I completed my Standard 12 in Mumbai. Then I went to film school in America although everyone suggested I go to business school. But I don’t think I ever could do anything apart from movies. My father supported that and agreed to send me to acting school.”

Ranbir loved the experience of living alone in the US. “I learnt to value my fami
ly and my money. I missed my parents. I met them three times a year in Mumbai. In New York, my friends and I would take a train to Queens to see new Hindi films. Being in touch with Hindi films and music during my stay in the US made me determined to turn a director at the earliest.”

‘I’M REALISTIC ABOUT LOVE’
Ranbir didn’t have a girlfriend in the US. “But I had my first girlfriend before that in school in Mumbai when I was in Class 7. I was really naïve then. I didn’t understand love. When that relationship ended I went into depression. I thought I would never fall in love again. Now I think I’ve become more realistic about love. Love is a beautiful feeling. It almost equals cinema in my list of passions.”

Ranbir’s parents have been married for over 30 years. “I firmly believe in marriage. Marriages today go wrong for temporary pleasure and lust. My marriage will be for keeps.”

The Wake Up Sid actor has
seen his parents’ marriage go through turbulent times. “That’s what makes any relationship stronger. My sister and I were never kept in the dark about my parents’ fights. If after marriage, God forbid, my wife and I fight, I’d make sure our children don’t feel insecure.”

Ranbir feels Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh make the best ever pair on and off screen. “Just as Raj
Kapoor made the best onscreen pair with Nargisji. Me? I think I make the best pair with Konkona Sen-Sharma.”

He admits, “Yup, I think I have a wonderful life. But I want more. Much more. I don’t want my life to get perfect. Because then there’d be nothing more to strive for.”

The way he’s handling his career would have made his grandfather Raj Kapoor proud. If Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya brought Ranbir instant notice, his new film Wake Up Sid has given the young actor a cult status.

Ranbir isn’t taking the rave reviews seriously.
He pushes on doing his work, sometimes to the exclusion of a personal life. Girlfriend Deepika Padukone recently had to fly in to Bhopal to spend time with the country’s latest heartthrob. But when he’s shooting, Ranbir detests distractions. He’s so focussed on his work the people close to him feel left out.

For Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year, which releases next, Ranbir learnt to speak fluent Punjabi. “Rocket Singh made me a better human being. Not too
many roles do that. Though my mother is Sikh, I didn’t speak fluent Punjabi. But I started speaking Punjabi for the role of the Sikh. I wore a kadaa throughout the making of the film. I had a beard and turban. I read the Guru Granth. This film made me know and respect the Sikh culture and religion.”

‘ACTORS ARE OVERRATED’
Ranbir is all set to buy himself a home, “It’s just property acquisition. I’ll never live in it, not even when I get married. I can’t stay away from my parents.”

He also has a wishlist of 40 directors he wants to work with. It’s not just in his head. The names are diligently written down and being ticked off one by one. “For me, cinema and not just acting is a passion. I love filmmakers. Actors are generally just tools, and overrated.”

Ranbir reveals his plans as a director. “It sounds too pompous to say I’m already directing a film. But I’ve been inspired by the work of Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan, Bimal Roy. My father made me watch their works. I’m not influenced by actors. I’m influenced by these directors. They made me passionate about cinema. I’ve a number of ideas for what I want to make. But I’m not a good writer. I would definitely like to cast myself because I know my film would be about a boy my age. And I’d like to believe no one else would fit the bill better.”

He lights up when he speaks about his father Rishi Kapoor. “I loved my father in Love Aaj Kal. He’s a source of inspiration. His passion for any film, good or bad, is exemplary.”

He has signed only one new film. “I want to take a month off. On the other hand, these are the best years of my life and I might as well make the best of them. Truth is, I feel guilty when I’m not working. I would rather be on a film set than anywhere else.”

Pausing to think, Ranbir says, “I think God has already made plans for me. How things turn out are not in my hands. All I can do is follow my conviction.”

BEING A KHAN IS NOT A CRIME!

Deepa Ravi (leap 24) was right when she replied to my comment on her New York review that “It (9/11) hurt America below the belt and hit them hard. They are still recovering from it!” The Americans took a stew of measures to see to it that something like WTC Attack doesn’t repeat again on their soil. However, many of their steps have at times hurt the religious sentiments of the people. The SRK incident last Saturday confirms this.

My Name is KhanMany are criticizing Shah Rukh Khan for ‘over-reacting’. Some say that he did this for promoting his film My Name Is Khan (MNIK). Why would SRK do something like that? He has been in the industry since around two decades. We haven’t seen him before doing such cheap marketing gimmicks for his films, have we? And MNIK is some 7-8 months away-why would he arouse a cheap controversy to market his film which has such a long time to release? And 12 days back, he had already made enough publicity for MNIK when he held a press conference, announcing the tie-up with Fox Studios.

What infuriated about this incident that the officials doubted SRK and his star-status and that they took 2 hours (which is really a long time) to question him. Kabir Khan (Director, New York) is right when he said about this incident, “How much time does it take to find out who Shah Rukh Khan is? A Google search would give more hits than Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise put together”. This clearly shows that it is possible that Shah Rukh Khan was subjected to secondary inspection because of his Muslim identity.

Not only SRK, many others Khans of Bollywood are of the same opinion that they have been subjected to secondary inspection because of their last name. Zayed Khan also agrees and says that when he’s on a tour, he is the only one from his team who gets detained while others are cleared in no time at all. And if the officials are questioned, they say it’s a random checking. At this, Zayed rightly says, “Tell me, how can there be random checks on 5 US airports one after another and in all of them only yours truly gets detained for additional checking?” A valid point, indeed!

New York director Kabir Khan’s ordeal is much bigger. He has spoken about this but unfortunately, it never made it to the headlines. Before New York, Kabir Khan had shot 6 times in US. At that point of time, FBI came up with 29 South Asian names and they ordered that anyone having those names should not be allowed to enter US at all. Unfortunately, one of the 29 names was Kabir Khan! He must have had a tough time explaining the officials.

So the point is-people have faced discrimination because of their religion which is completely unjustified. And how come SRK is wrong if he made his unsatisfying experience public? Amidst all this, Amar Singh enters taking full advantage to blast SRK. He says that even Big B was subjected to security checks and further says “There are two types of people in society—one, who make an issue out of an incident and another, who cooperates with procedures”. Very funny, esp when Amar Singh says something like this since he’s famous for making issues. He made an issue during the 2007 Filmfare Awards and this year, during the Sajid-Ashutosh feud in Star Screen Awards, he was the only one who took sides. Double Standards!

shadowREADY FOR SHADOW?

Two films are going to release in two weeks-one is intentionally a spoof and the other is a spoof, unintentionally! The former is Quick Gun Murugan and the latter is Shadow which releases tomorrow! I am sure everyone must have seen the promos of Shadow, which proudly proclaims as to how its lead actor Naseer Khan is actually a blind man and yet, does so many stunts in the film. Although kudos to Naseer Khan for achieving this considerable feat, his dialogue delivery and his dancing style has become the laughing stock! And the makers intentionally show the unintentionally funny scenes of the film in the promos! It is difficult to say how the film will turn out to be but one thing is for sure. Naseer Khan is getting the same response as Kamaal Rashid Khan (of Deshdrohi, remember?) had received!

CLEARING THE AIR: The actor leaves the airport, heads for home

Bharati Dubey I TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; August 18, 2009)

Mumbai: “This is not going to end and we will have to live with that,’’ said Shah Rukh Khan at a press conference in his house. The actor returned from America on Wednesday afternoon.

Khan, who was detained at Newark airport for slightly over an hour, clarified that the reason given to him for detention was that his name kept popping up on the computer and not because of lost baggage issues.

Shah Rukh did admit that he felt slightly violated when asked to name people in America who could vouch for him. “I don’t want to be treated as somebody special and I don’t want anyone to lose their job because of this incident. But should they have taken my fingerprints and retina scan, then let me off
without verifying these? It shows the system is wrong.’’

Khan brushed aside allegations of the incident being a publicity stunt. “I don’t need a stunt to remain in the public eye. And I don’t think being detained and questioned is a matter of pride. But one cannot deny that this is a problem happening around the world,’’ said the
actor, adding that this was the not the first time.

Quoting German pastor Martin Niemoller, Khan said, “They came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.’’
When John is away, Bipasha is at play. She was seen partying with former boyfriend Dino Morea while longtime lover John is working hard in London
By Ashwini Deshmukh (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 01, 2009)

Dino Morea

Former lovers Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea were seen living it up at a party held at a suburban nightclub last week. The two were together till the wee hours at the party, which was a going away party for a common friend who was leaving for the US for good.

A source present at the party said, “Everybody was surprised to see Bipasha and Dino partying together last week. The two haven’t been seen much together after they called it quits and Bipasha started seeing John Abraham.”

Perhaps the two hanging out together had something to do with a certain Mr Abraham being away in London. As for the Bipasha-Dino equation, despite parting ways, the two have been good friends and no animosity was ever witnessed between them over the years. But seeing the two old lovers partying together did raise quite a few eyebrows.

Commenting on the party, the source added, “It was a farewell party organised by Bipasha and her friend Rocky S for one of their close friends. Unfortunately, John couldn’t be present at the party as he is busy shooting for Abbas Tyrewala’s film, 1-800-LOVE, in London. Dino was also invited to the party.”

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha confirmed the news and said, “John’s best friend, Vicky, was leaving for America so decided to have a farewell party. All my friends, John’s friends and family got together. Unfortunately, John is in London and he missed all the fun that night.”

Rocky S, designer and a close friend of Bipasha, said, “Yes, Bipasha, Dino and a few of our friends did party together. We like to hang out together and also party once in a while. Dino is a close friend of ours.”

Commenting on the party and also his relationship with Bipasha, Dino said, “John’s brother was there too. I completely respect the relationship John and Bipasha share. Trying to put two and two together doesn’t make sense in this case. They’re very happy together and that’s how things are. Bipasha is like family to me ever since we moved to Mumbai (years ago).”
