Original uploader claims director Anurag Kashyap himself leaked the copy

Director Anurag Kayshap’s debut film Paanch has finally released — thanks to online piracy! A relatively good print of the film popped up on various torrent sites on December 9.

The completed film was due for release in the summer of 2003 but it never did, due to the various problems the censor board had with several scenes in the film. The young (at the time) and somewhat arrogant Anurag Kashyap wanted no compromises on his film and refused to make the cuts needed to be able to release the film. Till date, Paanch lies wasting away in cans, shelved.

Forgotten?
Since then, Kashyap has released several films including Gulaal (which was stuck for the longest time) with the help of Zee Telefilms. The status quo of Paanch was never discusssed. Tutu Sharma produced the film and after the film’s non-release, kept his silence.

Thanks to…
The film has now sprung up on several video download sites where the 700 MB version of the film is available for free download. What’s quite unprecedented is the claim the film’s original uploader makes: that Kashyap himself gave a copy of the film. He writes on his blog:’Source Credits — goes to the director of the movie and a special thanks to him for leaking a preview copy on the net, Pirates Salute.’

Both Shazahn Padamsee and Gauhar Khan claim to be the lead actress in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, Rocket Singh

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 09, 2009)

Shazahn Padamsee and Gauhar Khan might be making their acting debut in Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year, but they are already well-versed with starry airs that Bollywood actresses are expected to have. Both the actresses claim to be the lead actress in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

Recently, during the wrap up party of the film, both the actresses refused to greet each other and made a conscious effort to stay away from each other. A source from the unit said, “Shazahn has been the hot topic on the sets, especially because of the way she has been publicising herself. The film is not a love story in which she can play the lead. It is a completely different genre where one cannot play the lead opposite the protagonist (Ranbir). We wonder what dancing and acting classes she was talking about when she barely shot for four days. Gauhar has been silent because she knows about the length of her role.” Incidentally, Gauhar has shot for four months for the film

When asked about the cold vibes between her and Gauhar, Shazahn said, “I haven’t shot with Gauhar. I have only shot with Ranbir and he is a good friend of mine.”

Commenting on who plays the lead actress, Shazahn said, “I have nothing bad to say about anyone. It was a great experience working in this film and I have nothing to complain about.”

About Gauhar shooting for four months while she has only shot for four days, Shazahn said, “It is not the number of days we shoot for that defines our work. It’s about your character in the film and once the audience sees the film, they can decide for themselves.”

Meanwhile, Gauhar said, “I have never interacted with Shazahn professionally or socially. We have only shot for one scene together.”

When asked who plays the lead in the film Gauhar said, “All I can say is that Shazahn is opposite Ranbir. About who plays the lead, I leave it to the audience to watch the film and then decide. The one who stays in the audience’s mind is more important.”

Mumbai: Shiney Ahuja’s legal team tried to create more holes in his alleged victim’s claim that she was raped between 3 pm and 5 pm in his Andheri house on June 14.

The Bombay high court on Wednesday was hearing the bail plea of actor Shiney Ahuja who
is accused of raping his domestic help. The court will pass its order on Friday.

Though the domestic help claimed to be raped between 3 pm and 5 pm, the records from the phone company showed that she was speaking on her cellphone between 3.15 pm and 3.45 pm, said Shiney’s
lawyers Shirish Gupte and Srikant Shivade on Wednesday.

The fact that the girl only mentioned the word “atyachar (torture)’’ in her statement on oath before the magistrate and not “rape’’ was also discussed. Justice A P Deshpande asked for the dictionary meaning of atyachar and Gupte said it, in
no way, meant rape. But public prosecutor Sangeeta Shinde said the 20-year-old domestic help’s FIR and medical evidence pointed at rape and that atyachar had to be construed in the context of the incident.

The judge found it strange that neither the girl’s nor Shiney’s clothes had semen or blood stains on them given that she
had worn her clothes “immediately after the alleged forcible sexual intercourse’’. The defence also wanted to know how the police officer had access to lab reports of the maid’s vaginal swabs when the same documents were denied to Ahuja by the sessions judge.

When the judge asked why the police had not recorded any statement of the neighbours, the state’s lawyer said, “In these sophisticated housing societies, neighbours do not bother to interfere even if someone dies.’’ The judge said it was not true as it was a neighbour who took the maid to the police station to lodge a complaint.
