Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production Crooked is set to go on the floors from January 14 next year. However, the Abhishek Bachchan starrer has no lead actress as Aishwarya, who was supposed to do the film, opted out citing date problems.

Her dates for Crooked were colliding with Vipul Shah’s Action Replay. Since Action Replay is inching towards completion, Aishwarya had to give it priority, leaving her with no choice but to opt out of Crooked, directed by Abhinay Deo. It is a thriller which will be shot at different foreign locales.

Meanwhile, Farhan’s other production directed by Zoya Akhtar featuring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan and Abhay Deol is also stuck as it has no lead actress. The film’s shooting starts from April 5 in Spain. Ritesh says, “We are now looking for a completely new face in Crooked, which actually requires three new girls. We also need a fresh face either from London or New York for Hrithik in Zoya’s film.”

Farhan says, “Hrithik has been a true friend. I start directing Don 2 from September 2010, so Zoya’s film had to be completed before that. Hrithik adjusted his dates accordingly.”

Sanjay Dutt Neha Oberoi Pooja Chopra
Sanjay Dutt walks out of Vashu Bhagnani’s Faltu as actress Neha Oberoi, daughter of the actor’s closest friend, is replaced by Pooja Chopra

By Kunal M Shah and Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 09, 2009)

Sanjay Dutt and producer Vashu Bhagnani have had a serious fight because the latter broke his promise of re-launching Sanjay’s good friend Dharam Oberoi’s daughter Neha. To make matters worse, Vashu replaced Neha without informing the actor.

Consequently, a dismayed Sanjay has walked out of Vashu’s film, Faltu, which is also supposed to re-launch the producer’s son Jackky Bhagnani.

Our source said, “Sanjay and Vashu have always been on very good terms. Sanjay even did an item number without charging any money in Kal Kissne Dekha. Sanjay agreed to star in Faltu only because it was supposed to be the re-launch film for his close friend and manager Dharam Oberoi’s daughter, Neha, who had earlier starred in the tanked Woodstock Villa opposite Sikandar Kher. But while Sanjay was busy promoting All The Best, Vashu went ahead and signed on the current Miss India-World Pooja Chopra, and unceremoniously dropped Neha from his film. Sanjay was furious when he got to know about this and told Vashu that since he had failed to keep his word, he too won’t keep his promise. Vashu is now trying to get Anil Kapoor to replace Sanjay.”

Vashu said, “I had not even signed Sanju as the script is not ready yet. Sanju has to read the script and then decide. I have always maintained that he is a friend and has helped us with Kal Kissne Dekha. We will finalise everything only when the script is ready.”

Sanjay’s spokesperson confirmed that he is no longer part of Vashu’s film. He said cautiously, “Sanju opted out of the film due to date problems.”

Unhappy with her role, Asin opts out of Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se citing date problems

Asin

Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se has suffered a major jolt, now that its leading lady has walked out of the film. Asin, who was to play the female lead opposite Abhishek Bachchan, opted out citing date problems. Apparently, Asin was not too happy with her role and hence left the film.

Our source revealed, “Asin was excited about working with Ashutosh Gowrikar, but after hearing the script, she mulled over it and opted out. She has said that she has date problems, whereas actually, she is not happy with her character in the film. And after the lukewarm response to her last film London Dreams, Asin wants to be absolutely convinced of what she does next. Also, recently, Ashutosh delivered a turkey in the form of What’s Your Raashee? So, Asin does not want to take anymore chances.”

Ashutosh remained unavailable for comment.

Asin refuses the lead role in Farah Khan’s next, Happy New Year; brushes her off citing date problems

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 08, 2009)

Asin had a dream start with Bollywood as she bagged films with two Khans – Aamir and Salman. She was very vocal that she wanted to work with the third powerful Khan – Shah Rukh. Funnily, when she had the chance, she turned it down!

A few days ago, Farah Khan offered her a role in her next,

Happy New Year, which stars Shah Rukh Khan, which is slated to go on the floors by end of this year.

Asin

Farah Khan

Asin took her time to mull over the offer, consulted her father and then sent word to Farah that she won’t be doing the film. “Ever since Asin appeared on Farah’s show Tere Mere Beach Mein, they have been in touch. When Farah offered her the role, initially Asin was quite excited. It is not known why she refused Farah’s film,” says a source.

The polite way to refuse, of course, is to cite date problems. “She conveyed that the dates which Farah needed would be clashing with her other assignments,” revealed the source.

The latest is that Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have set their eyes on the female lead in Happy New Year. Kareena Kapoor is also in the race. Asin’s loss is someone else’s gain. It will be interesting to see who bags the role. Considering how sought after Farah is, it is indeed shocking that a new actress in Bollywood, turned her down.

Despite repeated attempts, Farah and Asin remained unavailable for comment.

Abhishek Bachchan, not Hrithik Roshan, will play the iconic Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in the Agneepath remake
By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 23, 2009)

Abhishek Bachchan

Hrithik Roshan

Much as Hrithik Roshan’s fans would love to see him play Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in producer Karan Johar’s remake of the Amitabh Bachchan classic Agneepath, Hrithik has refused to do the film. Abhishek Bachchan has stepped into his father’s big shoes to play the iconic character.

Hrithik has politely informed Karan that he doesn’t want to be a part of the remake, while Abhishek is only too glad to be doing it. An industry insider reveals, “Abhishek has said in many of his interviews that Agneepath is his favorite film. Naturally, he was overjoyed when Karan asked him to play the role which his father has originally played. It has always been Abhishek’s dream to do once what his father has done in his career, and he sees Agneepath as the perfect opportunity.”

But why did Hrithik turn down the offer? The insider adds, “Hrithik was a tad apprehensive about stepping into Big B’s shoes. Moreover, Karan too had second thoughts after he had approached Hrithik for the role. Besides, Hrithik had date problems. He will soon be busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish and since Karan plans to start shooting the film in early 2010, Hrithik suggested that it would be wise for Karan to go ahead with another actor.”
