Dia Mirza lodges a police complaint against her stalker; he has harassed her for six years

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

Dia Mirza must be used to getting attention all the time thanks to her pretty looks but this recent incident takes the cake as far as being admired goes. Dia was taken aback when she saw a 30-something guy on his knees with a bouquet and a ring proposing marriage to her right outside her doorstep on December 10.

At first, Dia was shocked but her domestic help and driver took her to the police station to lodge a complaint.

A source said, “The stalker has been following Dia for the last six years. When he realised that it was her birthday on December 9 and she would be receiving many bouquets, he disguised himself as a florist, fooled the building’s security guard and landed up outside her house the next day. He told her that he is well-educated and a doctor by profession. He had even got an engagement ring for her and asked her to marry him. At first Dia didn’t know what to do but she quickly got her act together and called out to her domestic help and driver. They managed to drive him away with a warning. However, Dia did not take the matter lightly and lodged a complaint at the Khar Police station. The cops are now trying to find her stalker.”

Dia confirmed the news and said, “Yes, it’s all true. I have made an official police complaint against him. I have noticed him for many years but I never bothered much as he never came in my way. However, this time he landed up at my house which was quite shocking. It was a security lapse because on my birthday(December 9) many bouquets had been sent to my house.

The next day he came to my house disguised as a florist. Thankfully, my driver, who has been with me for ten years, was present and let him off with a stern warning after which he ran away. I hope he doesn’t come back as cops are hunting for him.”

Dia continued, “He had brought a card and an engagement ring and he proposed marriage to me. He is an educated guy and is apparently a doctor but I didn’t want to take any chances. Everyone suggested that I should file a police complaint. The cops are hunting for him and they have even warned the security guards in my building.”

By Devansh Patel, December 10, 2009 – 08:21 IST

Abhishek Bachchan Indian cinema’s finest premiere comes to an end. People all over the world are doing the monkey dance. Such is the hysteria. Facebook status of various friends read that all those who’ve watched Paa proclaim it to be one of the biggest hits of it’s time. It’s strange, but it’s true, a newly wed couple decided to watch Paa and postponed their honeymoon for a day. Is Paa becoming a revolution in itself? UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent Devansh Patel asked a few rapid fires to the Paa himself, Abhishek Bachchan, on the feedback he’s been receiving or has received so far. “The kind of reactions that I have been getting be it on facebook or twitter or via SMS or via email has been overwhelming. Overwhelming because I still haven’t managed to answer all of them, there have been so many of them! And without trying to sound very pompous I think 99% of it is all very very positive. The response has been fantastic, I don’t think I have ever received response to any of my films like the way we have received for Paa“, answers Bachchan junior. We recall the day when Big B was all tears after watching Abhishek perform in Guru and so we asked the multi-talented Abhishek, “Did that happen to you while you were watching Amitabh Bachchan as Auro?” Surprisingly, he replied, “Yes”, and after a long pause, said, “No too, because every time I got sucked into the film and tried to react to it emotionally, the producer in me would wake up and try and find ways that I could have done certain things better. So for me, it was like balancing – being an actor and a producer, and a lot of times the producer in me would not allow me to be the actor whole heartedly. So although I do think its Pa’s best performance till date, I still feel that as a producer I could have performed a lot better.”

For the two days after the film was released, all the social networking sites were flooded with comments, suggestions and some interesting and thought provoking reasons to go and watch Paa. One such interesting suggestion read – Don’t you feel that a film like Paa should be doing the rounds of the international film festivals and should be screened especially for the BAFTA members? To which Abhishek comments, “I think that’s being a bit presumptuous, I am more than happy that our Indian audience and the Indian diaspora is watching the film – I think film festivals and BAFTA and all are although very prestigious, are things that the international jury will decide. If that is the fate of the film, I am happy. What I am most excited about is that our audience is currently enjoying the film.” Getting Abhishek Bachchan over the phone these days is like making a call to the White House. AB is a busy man and an even busier producer. All the running around has boiled down to many one liners – Paa is a hit! Paa is a super success and Paa is inspirational. One last question to the busy man, “How content is the producer today?” we ask. The answer was filled with content. Abhishek replies, “I am very content, it’s been just a few days since the release and my film is already in overflow which means it has covered its costs, I am in profits. So as a producer, economically speaking, I am very happy!”

Everyone thought 3 IDIOTS was the final release of 2009. Sure, the film is the final biggie to hit the screens on 25th December, but three more films – all medium-budget fares – are lined up for release in the subsequent week.

In view of the fact that the first week of new year is considered jinxed by industry people and producers refrain from releasing films in the first week, three independent producers have decided to release the film on Thursday, 31st December, which makes these three the final releases of 2009.

As things stand today, the three films, RAAT GAYI, BAAT GAYI?, BOLO RAAM and ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD, have been confirmed for release on 31st December. The question is, will they stick to that date? And if they do, how will the audience react to them given the fact that its celebration time across the globe? Let’s wait and watch!

A crazy Aamir Khan fan has travelled from Jodhpur to Mumbai to grab the first 3 Idiots ticket

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 10, 2009)

Mahendra Singh Rathore

Here is another idiot er…. crazy fan of Aamir Khan. 42-year-old Mahendra Singh Rathore wants to be the first person to be issued the 3 Idiots ticket. If that happens, he will gift Rs 11,000 to Aamir Khan or Vidhu Vinod Chopra, whoever helps him fulfill his wish.

The man is travelling by train all the way from Jodhpur to reach Mumbai today. A TV producer will guide him to Aamir or Vidhu’s office. Rathore will meet Aamir with the request to arrange for the very first ticket to be issued to him only.

During his train journey yesterday, Rathore informed us, “I will stay in Lokhandwala Complex in Mumbai till 3 Idiots releases (December 25).  I hope I don’t go back disappointed.”

But what triggered the need to offer the odd amount of Rs 11,000 to Aamir or Vidhu? Rathore explains, “Aamir or Vidhu certainly don’t need that amount but I will offer it to them as shagun, nothing else.

That’s my way of expressing joy. I want to be the first man to get the 3 Idiots ticket, that’s all. I love Aamir.

This man is just amazing. He never seems to fail. Saal mein ek film karta hai aur woh hamesha hit hoti hai. I have seen all his movies.”

Karan Johar worked for 48 hours to perfect My Name is Khan

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 10, 2009)

Karan Johar knows that first impression is the last impression. The first look of his much-awaited film My Name is Khan all set to hit the theatres on December 18 with the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar. As a result, Karan is having sleepless nights just to make sure that the first look creates the right buzz about the film.

Karan did not sleep starting Saturday morning to Monday morning as he was busy finalising the first look of My Name is Khan.

(L): Karan Johar, My Name is Khan

A source said, “My Name is Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, is one of Karan’s most ambitious film to date more so because it is a subject that he has never attempted to make so far. He also cancelled his trip to LA to finalise the film’s first look over the weekend. He reached office early on Saturday morning to start working on the edit and didn’t stop till Monday morning 7am. He must have barely taken an hour-long nap in those two days. SRK too joined him on Saturday night and they had a meeting about how they plan to go about promoting the film. SRK saw some portions of the first theatrical promo and then left the Dharma Productions office early on Sunday morning. However, Karan continued to work and only left on Monday morning after he was satisfied with the first look.”

Karan remained unavailable for comment. He probably was catching up on his sleep after the marathon edit session.

After handing over Kites to Brett Ratner to cut the Hollywood version of Kites, Rakesh Roshan is all gung ho about directing the sequel to Krrish himself

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 10, 2009)

Rakesh Roshan has always been very possessive about his home productions. It has been reported that Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra was taken onboard to direct Krrish 3. But after the debacle of Delhi 6, Rakesh Roshan doesn’t want to take any chances and has decided to direct the film himself.

A source reveals, “Hrithik is more comfortable working with his father. He is also helping him with the script. They want it to attain Hollywood standards and are leaving no stone unturned to make it work. Though, senior Roshan was convinced of Mehra’s directorial credentials, Hrithik was skeptical.”

Mehra or no Mehra, the scripting is in process. The source continues, “Presently, the father-son duo is busy with Kites and don’t want to hamper the post-production. Only after the release of Kites, they will start working on Krrish 3. Whenever Hrithik is not shooting and is at home, he joins his father and the team of writers and takes part in discussions on every detail pertaining to the film.”

Rakesh Roshan confirms, “I am directing Krrish 3. I am still in the scripting process and there is still time for the movie to go on the floors.” When asked about Rakesh Mehra’s earlier involvement, he says, “We had spoken to Mehra, but he got busy with Delhi 6 and we were busy with Kites, so nothing was finalised.”

However, Mehra says, “I was never directing Krrish 3.”

A female fan requested a bearded Ranbir Kapoor to click her pictures with Imran Khan; she had clearly not recognised Ranbir and was profusely apologetic on realising her folly later

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 10, 2009)

Just a few days before Ranbir Kapoor shaved off his beard, which he had grown for Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh, he had an experience which he will not forget for a long time to come.

Ranbir was dining with good friend Imran Khan at a suburban restaurant when a 16-year-old girl walked into the restaurant with an older friend and sat a few tables away. A few minutes later, the young girl saw Imran.

An eyewitness said, “She left her food midway and ran to Imran and Ranbir’s table. Before the boys could even realise what was happening, the young girl handed her mobile phone to Ranbir and told him, “Click my pictures with Imran,” before posing with Imran.

She handed her mobile phone to Ranbir and told him, “Click my pictures with Imran”

A courteous Ranbir, who was seated opposite Imran, could do nothing but comply. Clearly, the girl hadn’t recognised Ranbir because of his beard.

It was only when the girl went back to her seat and her friend told her about her faux pas that she immediately went running back to the two actors.

Ranbir’s discomfort was apparent as if he was expecting to be embarrassed even more. However, much to his relief, the girl looked at Ranbir very apologetically and said, “Are you Ranbir? I am very sorry.”

This time, she casually handed her mobile phone to Imran and said, “Would you now click my picture with Ranbir please?”

After the incident, Ranbir and Imran couldn’t stop laughing.

Imran confirmed the story.

BOOKWORMS: Professor Arindam Chaudhuri and Shah Rukh Khan
SRK was in Delhi to release Arindam’s book on self-discovery, and he had everyone in splits with his witty one-liners

JYOTHI PRABHAKAR Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 10, 2009)

The crowd was waiting for a motivational speech from Shah Rukh Khan, something on the lines of ‘My success mantra’ or ‘Discover the talent in you.’ After all, that was what Professor Arindam Chaudhuri had just spoken about for 20 odd minutes – and quite an impassioned talk it was too… About the people who’d influenced his life and motivated him – those like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, and Amitabh Bachchan. “My book, Discover The Diamond In You, is an attempt to share with everyone the powerful principles of success that I’ve grown to passionately believe in,” he said, “This book is for everybody who wants to increase his or her productivity in life and work, everybody who wants to be better.”
But trust Shah Rukh to do the unconventional. He took to the stage and said, “I was inspired by Rocky too. I wanted to be a porn star! (You see, Sylvester Stallone was one early on in his career). The witty-as-ever SRK went on, “I’m going to work very hard, positively, and with clarity, to be a porn star.” He did later speak about hard work and honesty and things that motivate people to succeed, but SRK, who’d come from Mumbai to release Discover The Diamond In You, a motivating, self-discovery book by Arindam, asked everyone to read it, and said, “Main bhi padhoonga. Next time you hear about me, I’ll be the world’s biggest porn star.”
But Shah Rukh has not been quite so witty in the foreword to the book, where he’s said, “I believe success is a wonderful experience, but not always one from which we acquire wisdom or knowledge… which is why success, whether deserving or not, can be enjoyed, but not passed on.” He goes on to say, in the foreword that “Success is never final, just like failure is never fatal!” And this, coming from someone like as successful a man as him, must be rich advice!
ALL SET: Priyanka Chopra

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 10, 2009)

Life has come a full circle for former Miss World Priyanka Chopra. On December 12, nine years after she picked up her own crown, PC will be on the beauty pageant podium in Johannesburg as a judge for the final round of this year’s Miss World contest. “When Julia Morley, who is in charge of the beauty pageant, invited me to be a judge, I was ecstatic. There I was a teenager all those years ago, nervous as a help on the same platform. Now I’m going in a totally different capacity,” said Priyanka. The actress is happy she could work her busy shooting schedules around to accommodate this contest, which she considers a very prestigious one.

Back home, too, Priyanka is in a very happy place. Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and she are the top three Bollywood beauties who wield a certain power over the box office. Naturally, the best projects are divided between them. “This was a good year,” said the actress, “and hopefully 2010 will be as good if not better.”

She happily starts the year with Pyaar Impossible in January while also shooting with hotshot Ranbir Kapoor for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Anjaana Anjaani and with Bollywood supremo Shah Rukh Khan for Farhan Akhtar’s Don-2. “Besides these films, I’m scheduled to do a film with my Kaminey director Vishal Bharadwaj,” said the dusky beauty.

The low point of 2009 was when she cried herself to sleep after Ashutosh Gowarikar’s What’s Your Rashee came unstuck at the box office. “When you put blood, sweat and tears into a project and it doesn’t fetch you the kind of box office you hoped for, it hurts,” Priyanka admitted. But she did not rise to the bait when asked what she feels about co-star and ‘ex’ Harman Baweja making his feelings public for her long after they had split. Guess when things are looking up for her the way they are right now, she has every reason to be gracious.

  • shaziya: Vidhu Vinod Chopra remained unavailable for comment. But we wonder, has he forgotten his Munnabhai Gandhigiri lesson?
  • shaziya: The team of Eros International’s Veer has been looking forward to this day with great anticipation as the mega project finally hits the big screens
