HOT! Katrina Kaif
…says Katrina Kaif on being voted the Sexiest Asian Woman again

SUBHASH K JHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 15, 2009)

Katrina Kaif, who has just been voted the Sexiest Asian Woman the second time over by a UK publication, is of the opinion that in the Indian context — sexy has a very different definition. “It means a person is more appealing than overtly physically attractive. These titles come from the fact that I’m currently in people’s consciousness because of the work that I have done this year. New York, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and De Dana Dan all worked,” says the Bollywood hottie, adding, “People should see me at home. I’m painfully unglamorous. Just another working girl making a living. I certainly don’t fit into the conventional sexy babe groove. I’m more in the girl next door mould. And that’s the image I’m comfortable with.” She also feels being sexy is not about clothes and the oomph. “It’s not about how hard you can pout into the camera. It’s about being a complete woman without trying.”

Kat also feels Asians define sexiness in ways that go beyond the skin. “I think we Indians define sexy in a different way than other parts of the world. I think Asian women are seen to be sexy when they can fit into the domestic image. Plain and simple, the girls the Indian guys can take home to their mothers are sexy.” Pondering on being conventionally sexy, Katrina adds, “I did do some oomphy stuff last year, like Zara Zara Kiss Me in Race. So maybe being called the Sexiest or whatever made sense in 2008. But this year all my roles have been of wholesome girls next door. What was sexy about my character in New York or Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani? And in my next release I wear sober sarees and project an image that’s a far cry from the bubbly all-over-the-place nymphet that people expect me to be.”

Idiot Box will show how the Indian male suffers on account of the saas-bahu soaps

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

S B Singh heard the alarm bells ringing when he noticed that his wife preferred television soaps over him. Ekta Kapoor’s string of K-serials and their clones had the women in Singh’s family glued to the television.

This is when Singh, owner of a sweetmeat chain, decided to make a film to show how his personal life was affected by the saas-bahu sagas. He said, “My friends have also gone through a similar ordeal. My film will speak for them.” The film has been appropriately titled Idiot Box.

SB Singh Jyoti Gauba

Talking about his experience, Singh said, “I usually get home by 8.30 pm after work. But my wife remains glued to the TV till 10.30 pm. I told her to watch the reruns in the afternoon. But she uses the afternoons to take a nap.” Singh, who lives in a joint family, faced this problem with all the women in his household. “But nobody seemed to listen,” he added.  To add to his woes, they kept talking about the storylines and the characters in those shows.

Singh decided to retaliate. “I started returning late,” he said. “I went out with my friends. My wife questioned me and I clearly told her about my problem. Agar woh 11 tak TV dekhegi, toh main ghar pe aake kya karoon?”

Singh and his wife discussed the issue. He said, “She accepted that she was wrong. But there are many such couples, who haven’t resolved their differences. I don’t have anything against television producers or their content. I simply don’t want anybody to see television at the cost of their personal life.”

Idiot Box has a character that has been inspired by Ekta Kapoor, who is called Anekta. Newcomer Jyoti Gauba will play that role. Singh added, “The film’s director, Sunando Mitra, used to work with Balaji Telefilms earlier. He gave me a lot of insight into Balaji. It became easy for Jyoti to adopt Ekta’s looks, style and mannerisms.”

Raveena Tandon to play Rahul Mahajan’s sister and help him pick a bride

By Zenith Sahai (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

Rahul Mahajan goes looking for a bride on Rahul Dulhaniya Le Layenge, and also ends up with a sister. Raveena Tandon will perform the role of the didi, which is a pity for that’s the last role any man would imagine the gorgeous actress in.

Raveena is being paid a whopping figure to lend her moral support to Rahul Mahajan and his quest for the perfect bride.

The TV channel has been negotiating with Raveena for a day’s shoot and to promote the show. Ravi Kisen, who played Rakhi Sawant’s brother, ended up hosting another show on the channel, Raaz Pichle Janam Ka. Reliable sources from the channel say that Raveena has been offered a bomb to appear in an episode as Rahul’s sister and select a girl for her ‘brother’.

Raveena, who was seen as a judge on two children shows earlier, is also making an appearance as a judge on another channel. For the current offer, her answer simply depends on the moolah: up the offer by five lakhs and she will be the world’s best sister.

“Raveena has asked for a whopping Rs 30 lakh and the channel is offering her Rs 25 lakh for the episode,” says a source. “She normally charges around Rs 8 lakh an episode if it is a running show.”

Confirming the development, Shailaja Kejriwal, EVP Content of the channel says, “Talks are on with her at the moment.  But it has not been confirmed as yet.”

And if she has her way, she would be the highest paid actress on TV. Incidentally, Bipasha Basu who is going to be seen on a show produced by Red Chillies, has also asked for a similar amount and is being paid less than what she has asked for. “No, the amount you mention is rubbish,” says Kejriwal.

Dia Mirza lodges a police complaint against her stalker; he has harassed her for six years

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

Dia Mirza must be used to getting attention all the time thanks to her pretty looks but this recent incident takes the cake as far as being admired goes. Dia was taken aback when she saw a 30-something guy on his knees with a bouquet and a ring proposing marriage to her right outside her doorstep on December 10.

At first, Dia was shocked but her domestic help and driver took her to the police station to lodge a complaint.

A source said, “The stalker has been following Dia for the last six years. When he realised that it was her birthday on December 9 and she would be receiving many bouquets, he disguised himself as a florist, fooled the building’s security guard and landed up outside her house the next day. He told her that he is well-educated and a doctor by profession. He had even got an engagement ring for her and asked her to marry him. At first Dia didn’t know what to do but she quickly got her act together and called out to her domestic help and driver. They managed to drive him away with a warning. However, Dia did not take the matter lightly and lodged a complaint at the Khar Police station. The cops are now trying to find her stalker.”

Dia confirmed the news and said, “Yes, it’s all true. I have made an official police complaint against him. I have noticed him for many years but I never bothered much as he never came in my way. However, this time he landed up at my house which was quite shocking. It was a security lapse because on my birthday(December 9) many bouquets had been sent to my house.

The next day he came to my house disguised as a florist. Thankfully, my driver, who has been with me for ten years, was present and let him off with a stern warning after which he ran away. I hope he doesn’t come back as cops are hunting for him.”

Dia continued, “He had brought a card and an engagement ring and he proposed marriage to me. He is an educated guy and is apparently a doctor but I didn’t want to take any chances. Everyone suggested that I should file a police complaint. The cops are hunting for him and they have even warned the security guards in my building.”

Akshay Kumar, who will run with the Olympic torch on December 17 in Toronto, is apprehensive about dropping the torch

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

The first Indian ever to have got the opportunity to run with the Olympic torch, Akshay Kumar made all efforts to be a part of the run. He had to request director Priyadarshan to allow him to go to Toronto for the Olympic run on Thursday, December 17. While his excitement was palpable, he was also worried about dropping the torch while running.
Akshay said before leaving, “As I am getting ready to leave for Toronto, I just keep telling myself one thing over and over again, ‘No matter what happens Akshay, don’t drop that torch. Naak kat jayegi.’ It would be so embarrassing. I would never be allowed to visit Canada.”

Akshay regretted not being able to take along his son Aarav. “It’s just for a day so I somehow managed to squeeze it in my schedule. But it would be too tiring for Aarav. If I was going for 5-6 days I would have taken my wife and son along.”

Akshay was working round the clock to beat the deadline for his departure to Toronto last night. The untiring actor said, “Only when I go home in the night do I allow myself the luxury to feel tired. On December 17, I run with the torch then I return to Canada next year to see some of the Olympic’s sports. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

On November 16, the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper handed over the Olympian torch to Akshay in Mumbai. “When I was given the torch some kids came running to just to touch that torch.  I can’t tell you what a proud moment that was. I remember, as a child I used to watch sportsmen carrying the torch on our black-and-white television,” said an elated Akshay.

Salman Khan, David Dhawan and Sajid Nadiadwala get ready to make Judwaa 2. Kareena Kapoor might play one of the lead actresses

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

Salman Khan is finally ready to play the quirky Raja and the sober Prem in the sequel to his 1997 hit Judwaa. The actor has given his nod to team up once again with director David Dhawan and  producer Sajid Nadiadwala for  the sequel   to the  twin-comedy only after he was completely convinced with the script.

So far the idea of a sequel to Judwaa had been quelled mainly because the story ideas did not  appeal to Salman. Now, David has finally come  up with an idea that the team feels  is worth pursuing.
Producer Sajid says, “We’ve been going back and forth with David  on  the story of Judwaa’s sequel for years. Since Judwaa released there have been innumerable films about twins and their adventures, so films about twin heroes had become  stale. Before making  Judwaa 2 we first had to make sure the  plot not only went further than  the first Judwaa  but also goes  beyond all the   other  double-role films that have come lately.”

Fact  of the matter is that double  roles have not been  doing well lately.  Sajid says, “We’ve gone back to the story board repeatedly to ensure Judwaa has very high novelty value.”

“David is working  on giving Salman’s character a  special new  spin. We’ll  give the two Salmans a  very different look and the story  moves ten years ahead but Salman is still as boyish  as he used to be,” adds Sajid.

Judwaa 2 won’t feature either Karisma  Kapoor or Rambha who were lead actresses in the first film.

But yes, Kareena Kapoor is being considered to star in the sequel.

About Judwaa

Directed by David Dhawan, Judwaa is about identical twins (Salman Khan) who get separated at birth. The quiet and mature Prem, one of the twins, and his father visit India to get Prem married to Mala (Karisma Kapoor).

Prem also meets his twin brother in India and a series of comic situations follow. The highlight of the film was Anu Malik’s music especially the songs Chalti hai kya nau se baraah and Unchi hai building lift teri bandh hai, which were an instant hit and are popular even today.

After making up with her brother Ashmit, Amisha Patel patches up with her parents. She finally puts the bitterness behind her

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

It’s always hard to patch-up after an acrimonious split. Amisha Patel had a very public and very nasty fall-out with her parents five years ago when she accused them of misusing her money.

Recently though, Amisha has been trying to mend her relationships. After making peace with her brother Ashmit Patel, she has now reconciled with her parents. On December 1, Amisha and Kanav Puri attended a cousin’s mehendi where she met her parents.

It was also her mother Asha’s birthday. She later went over to her mother’s Churchgate residence and spent time with her family and close relatives.

It finally seems that the public bickering is a closed chapter. Washing dirty laundry in public is never pleasant, and hopefully the Patels have put the bitterness behind them.

Asha Patel

Five years ago, she had accused them that they misused her finances. Back then, her parents also didn’t approve of her relationship with then-boyfriend Vikram Bhatt. Maybe the new man in her life has had a calming effect or maybe brought out of the more forgiving side of Amisha.

A close source confirms, “Yes, Amisha was present at her mother’s birthday.”

Amisha declined to comment.
