Kangna Ranaut would like her family to shift in with her but her current home is too small

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 04, 2010)

If all goes well, Kangna Ranaut will shift from Latasoni building at Pali Naka, Bandra in 2010.Kangna is hunting for a new house, which would be bigger than her current one. Sources reveal that for the last few days, the actress has been searching for a flat between Bandra-Juhu. She would prefer a big duplex.

Explaining why Kangna wants to shift from her Pali Naka flat, our source says, “Kangna’s parents, who presently reside in Manali, will shift with her once she gets her new house. However, her father may then shuttle for his business commitments.” Kangna’s brother Rishu who is studying engineering in Delhi now, may also move in with her. Another reason why Kangna wants to shift is that she wants more privacy. “She would prefer her new property to be in a quieter locality than her current one,” adds our source. She currently lives in a three-bedroom apartment.

We checked with Kangna but she was rather hesitant to talk about her plans. However, she said, “It’s too early to talk about it. But yes, once I get my new house, my parents would definitely come and stay with me.”

Ever since she came to Mumbai, Kangna has spent most of her time staying without her family. Of late though, her elder sister Rangoli has been staying with her.

Manisha Koirala (39) finds a new calling in politics. Will quit Bollywood to settle in Nepal to continue the family political legacy

By Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 03, 2009)

Manisha Koirala is seriously contemplating joining Nepali politics. Her grandfather BP Koirala and her granduncle GP Koirala have both been ex-Prime Ministers of the mountain kingdom; and during her Diwali vacation in Kathmandu, Manisha visited the BP Koirala Memorial, fuelling talks of her imminent entry into politics.

It is still not clear whether she will contest elections as an Independent candidate or join the Nepali Congress which senior members of her family have been involved with, but the actress is serious about an alternate career.

“I will join politics,” says the actress who is flying to Los Angeles on November 5 for a work assignment. Manisha, who has steered clear of Nepal politics so far, says that her recent trip to Kathmandu has given her some fresh insights into the socio-political scene.

“I have a couple of films to complete in Mumbai,” she admits.

But she has spent almost four months this year in the US and seriously wants to move home base from Mumbai to Los Angeles. “It is too early to say anything about the work I am planning in LA,” says Manisha. “But I have made some good contacts in the movie business. I want to make LA my base as far as films go.”

The actress says that since her parents are now in Kathmandu, she doesn’t want to live alone in her huge duplex. “It makes little sense to run this place for one person… and it is also getting a bit lonely,” she admits.

Her brother Siddharth and his family have their own apartment in Mumbai. So the next step for her is to commute between Los Angeles and Kathmandu. “My political plans are in the formative stage,” she says. “However, I do realise that if I’m to take the plunge; which I have decided, I will then I need to spend a lot of time in my home country.”

While the actress wishes to continue to dabble in movies in some form or the other (be it acting or producing) she also wants to make her foray into politics.

Manisha will return to India in the third week of November because she is likely to be conferred with a political honour in Kanpur/Delhi around that time.

Bipasha Basu’s role in Mani Ratnam’s film scrapped…

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; October 5, 2009)

Bipasha Basu is upset. The Bengali beauty has been done out of her role as Abhishek Bachchan’s wife Mandodari in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. This, apparently, after she had dress fittings, attended rehearsals, and was allotted 20 days of work in the film of which 12 were to be used exclusively for an exotic item number.

While Bips, herself, is silent on what led to her ouster from this Abhishek-Aishwarya Bachchan starrer, an insider alleged that her track in the story was proving to be a bit too strong and disrupting the length of the film. Another take has it that she was also proving to be a threat to some of the other actresses in the film like Ash and Priya Mani.

A press release from Mani’s spokesperson explains that the filmmaker did not want to do any injustice to Bips’s role, but, at a later date, he will ensure that they work together. To this, Bips responded, “I am sad… but it’s better than having my role chopped or totally edited… when lot of effort had gone to work out the role for this guest character.” Shooting for the film continues at Malshej Ghat. But there’s no confirmation if Bips will be replaced or whether Mandodori’s role has been obliterated out of Raavan for good.

Meanwhile, her sadness extends to her private life as well. The Bengali bombshell continues living out of a suitcase for the sixth month now. Her newly-renovated duplex in Santacruz has a water-proofing problem. “Ten different experts were called to identify the cause,’’ she grumbled, “and after weeks of study, one of them has nailed it. The roof will take another week to be fixed.’’

On the bright side, the actress has her Diwali entertainer All The Best coming up. She is super-confident about the film, “There are certain films that work across segments and All The Best, a situational comedy, is one such film.’’ There’s also talk of Boney Kapoor’s No Entry-II being made. “Then it should have the original star cast of Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Lara Dutta and me because that is the only way it will recreate the same box office magic,’’ said Bipasha, lighting up like a Diwali diya at the thought of this.
