Model-VJ Gauhar Khan says she believes playing the lead does not mean being paired romantically opposite the hero but being integral part of the film’s plot.

She plays a receptionist of Ranbir Kapoor’s sales office in ‘Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year’ which released last week.

Gauhar says that even though she is not romantically paired opposite Ranbir, she has most of her scenes with the Bollywood’s latest heartthrob. “our characters shared a close bond in the film,” she said.

Gauhar was participating in ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja’ reality dance show when she was called for auditions for the film. “I went through five auditions before being selected for the role of Koena, a middle class fashionable girl, in the film. She is naive and also emotional. There were many layers in the character and I got an opportunity to showcase my acting skills,” Gauhar said.

Filmmaker Yash Chopra complimented me for my performance and that was the icing on the cake amid all adulation and good reviews, she said. ‘Rocket Singh’ is writer Jaideep Sahani’s vision and executed by director Shimit Amin, Gauhar said adding that playing her character in the film was tough but the duo made it easier. “They made me aware of the depth of Koena’s character,” she said.

Gauhar hopes to be romantically paired with Ranbir in future. “He is a calm and a good person and a thorough professional,” she said.

The actress says she has firmly set her sights on Bollywood and was looking for work to improve her performing abilities. “Only talent matters in this industry,” she said.

Gauhar has come a long way from being a model, VJ and has put the infamous wardrobe malfunction at Lakme Fashion Week couple of years ago behind her. She said she is looking forward to play performance oriented lead roles.

Why Gauhar Khan is opening up way after Rocket Singh’s release

All this while, Gauhar Khan preferred to remain mum about Rocket Singh and the buzz about her so-called ‘cold war’ with Shazahn Padamsee who also features in the film.

“I was under contract with Yash Raj not to speak till the film releases. I wanted to respect it even though others may not have,” says the model-turned-actress. “I did not want to have any bad vibes around nor upset anyone. I only wanted my performance to do the talking which I am glad it did.”

At a private screening she received compliments from Yash Chopra as well as her co-star Ranbir Kapoor’s parents Rishi and Neetu Singh. “They telling me that I had done well in the film was huge for me. I was so jittery but the response has been overwhelming.”

She states that after the screening, she went up to Shazahn and wished her luck for her first film. “I don’t even know Shazahn and we didn’t share screen space. Nor were there any film-related events that we would be together. So I really don’t know where all this crept up? Guess this is what happens when there is a PR machinery at work.”

At the moment, it’s only acting for her. “The fashion world and ramp is out for me now. I only want to concentrate on movies.”

She was picked up for Rocket Singh during her television outing Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa. Most viewers would remember her as an extremely emotional contestant who cried often. “But that’s how I am, even off-screen. I always get emotional. I cried even after Rocket Singh’s screening!” she says.

Aan- Men at work-Did a dance number in  Madhur Bhandarkar flick
Phir Hera Pheri-Was to be launched in this film. It never happened

By Taran Adarsh, December 11, 2009 – 17:13 IST

Some films absorb you instantly, from the very outset. But it takes time to get into the world of a salesman who thinks from his heart.

Come to think of it, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is about a simpleton, but the story of his struggle and accomplishment isn’t the kind that would charge you or make you charter a similar path in life. Also, the story of an underdog who comes up the hard way should make you feel euphoric in the end, right? But ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR doesn’t.

BY BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COM

Frankly, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. It’s a decent film, no two opinions on that, but the question is, [a] Is the story powerful enough to excite you and [b] Does it grab your attention in entirety? Sadly, the answer to both the questions is in the negative.

//

There’s another problem and this is strictly from the point of those seeking entertainment. A Yash Raj film with Ranbir Kapoor [after AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI] essaying the title role, coupled with fun-filled promos [‘Pocket Mein Rocket Hain’] might make you assume that it would offer loads of entertainment, but this has barely a song or two, as good as no romance and hardly any comic moments – the recipe for most Hindi movies.

In a nutshell, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is a dull and dry experience.

Harpreet Singh Bedi [Ranbir Kapoor] has just graduated and his marks are, well, let’s say a little embarrassing. But marks never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will.

He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career. It’s everything he dreamt of, with its smooth dressing, smoother talking men and women who can sell ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac and a lifetime mobile connection to a dying man. But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these ‘professionals’ and ‘bosses’ he looked up to.

ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR may be based on a simpleton’s life, but the viewer gets a hang of things only towards the second hour. The entire first hour is devoted to establishing the characters and also getting used to the way sales persons go about their business.

There’s not much excitement in the first hour, barring a few attention-grabbing scenes that pop up intermittently. The story just flows, with the viewer not reacting much to the proceedings. But things change for better towards the post-interval portions when the protagonist and his colleagues’ lives get complicated.

At least two sequences deserve a mention here. The first, when Ranbir and his boss have a lengthy telephonic conversation. The second, when the boss realises his folly and apologises to Ranbir. But, unfortunately, the culmination to the story doesn’t give the feeling of euphoria or victory. Ideally speaking, it should have. That’s one of the reasons why the impact is missing.

Shimit Amin is an efficient storyteller and he has been most faithful to the plot, but if the plot itself has its limitations, there’s not much he can do to boost the proceedings. Jaideep Sahni has had the courage to narrate a new story, but the story is one-dimensional. Also, there screenplay is devoid of songs, romance and entertainment, which will go against the film completely.

Salim-Sulaiman’s background score is effectual. Vikash Nowlakha’s cinematography is alright.

Ranbir Kapoor is an exceptional actor and ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR mirrors this fact. The actor underplays his part beautifully, which only goes to prove that he’s equally at ease essaying straight-out-of-life roles. Prem Chopra is exceptional. A number of new faces enact pivotal roles here, but the ones who stand out are Ranbir’s boss Puri and colleague Nitin. Both are fantastic.

D. Santosh is first-rate. Gauhar Khan leaves a strong impression. Shazahn Padamsee doesn’t get any scope.

On the whole, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. Lack of music, romance and entertainment, coupled with zilch hype, will go against the film. A colossal disappointment!

Both Shazahn Padamsee and Gauhar Khan claim to be the lead actress in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, Rocket Singh

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 09, 2009)

Shazahn Padamsee and Gauhar Khan might be making their acting debut in Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year, but they are already well-versed with starry airs that Bollywood actresses are expected to have. Both the actresses claim to be the lead actress in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

Recently, during the wrap up party of the film, both the actresses refused to greet each other and made a conscious effort to stay away from each other. A source from the unit said, “Shazahn has been the hot topic on the sets, especially because of the way she has been publicising herself. The film is not a love story in which she can play the lead. It is a completely different genre where one cannot play the lead opposite the protagonist (Ranbir). We wonder what dancing and acting classes she was talking about when she barely shot for four days. Gauhar has been silent because she knows about the length of her role.” Incidentally, Gauhar has shot for four months for the film

When asked about the cold vibes between her and Gauhar, Shazahn said, “I haven’t shot with Gauhar. I have only shot with Ranbir and he is a good friend of mine.”

Commenting on who plays the lead actress, Shazahn said, “I have nothing bad to say about anyone. It was a great experience working in this film and I have nothing to complain about.”

(L): Gauhar Khan & (R):Shazahn Padamsee

About Gauhar shooting for four months while she has only shot for four days, Shazahn said, “It is not the number of days we shoot for that defines our work. It’s about your character in the film and once the audience sees the film, they can decide for themselves.”

Meanwhile, Gauhar said, “I have never interacted with Shazahn professionally or socially. We have only shot for one scene together.”

When asked who plays the lead in the film Gauhar said, “All I can say is that Shazahn is opposite Ranbir. About who plays the lead, I leave it to the audience to watch the film and then decide. The one who stays in the audience’s mind is more important.”

Sex tape captures girl with stunning resemblance to popular MTV Roadies contestant, including the black thread around her neck

MTV Roadies finalist Palak once bitched about her breasts comparing them to “pimples”. But if a sex tape is to be believed Tamanna is surprisingly well endowed.

A 37-second sex tape with a girl, having a stunning resemblance to the Roadie, having sex with a boy has been posted on Rapidshare and Easyshare both video sharing websites.

Sujoy De, the man who apparently posted it on the Web in May, says on forum.desishock.com: “Before download don’t forget to say thanks.”

Cross Check: The girl in the sex tape, who looks like Tamanna, wears a crucifix pendant similar to the one that the Roadie sports (right, encircled).

Netizens are forwarding the tape to all and sundry. The sex-tape shows the reality TV contestant or someone who looks just like her having sex with a boy whose face cannot be seen.

Apart from the stunning semblance to the reality TV contestant, the girl shown in the sex-tape is also wearing a cross around her neck like Tamanna.

The lissom lass from Chandigarh was quite popular for her skirmishes with her burly counterpart Palak and her on-screen proximity to the Roadies winner Nauman.

The chemistry

She came out openly about her “close friendship” to Nauman when she was voted out. Nauman, on his part, confessed his fondness for the girl.

When asked about the tape, Nauman said, “It’s news to me. I have not heard about it and not seen the video so I don’t have a view.

I need to call Tamanna and check about it. People who are jealous may use her name and circulate such a video.”

Fan following

The 19-year-old girl has a fanclub dedicated to her on Facebook. The club has 1,672 members and describe the girl as “self-obsessed” and “a free bird she will never be bogged down by negativity.”

Sex videos showing look-alikes of celebrities have been doing the rounds of the cyber space for years. Often police complaints are filed and culprits hunted down.

MiD DAY broke the news of a sex-tape involving a Noida B-school student in February. In fact, there are a number of video sharing websites, which thrive on such tapes.
