Shah Rukh Khan and Vishal Bhardwaj end hostility, are on friendly terms again

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 30, 2009)

That Shah Rukh Khan and Vishal Bhardwaj had a fall-out not too long ago was a hot topic of discussion among many. But this is Bollywood, and here, relationships are fickle. The latest on the duo is that they have patched-up, and if all goes well, SRK will star in one of Vishal’s films. They had a long meeting last week, in the course of which, the hatchet was buried.

A source revealed, “Shah Rukh and Vishal met warmly and discussed many ideas. One of them may soon translate into a film.”

Apparently, Shah Rukh and Vishal had creative differences over a script sometime ago when SRK wanted several changes in the script to suit his image and Vishal was not particularly kicked about it.

The first whiff that a patch-up was in the offing came when SRK’s wife Gauri Khan attended a screening of Vishal’s Kaminey at Yash Raj Studios. Commenting on the patch-up, our source said, “Shah Rukh saw Kaminey and sent a message to Vishal, lauding him. On the other hand, Vishal, in a recent interview, praised SRK’s acting abilities and stated that he would love to bring out the actor in his film. Gradually but surely, Shah Rukh and Vishal have put the past behind them. They are now keen on working together.

However, nothing about a film has been finalised yet. But when a director like Vishal and an actor like SRK team up, it will be a much awaited film.

Vivek Oberoi on love, life and a fresh innings in Bollywood

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 27, 2009)

• You have got some good reviews for your role in Kurbaan.

Yes. I have not stopped smiling since the film’s release. At one of the trials, Bebo (Kareena Kapoor) and Saif (Ali Khan) did tell me that I was good in the film. Then Karan (Johar) and Rensil (D’Silva)also told me the same thing. I had not seen the film till then as I was shooting in Hyderabad. It was a nice feeling when Karan told me ‘finally you make me proud.’ I saw the film just a day before its release and I had knots in my stomach. I was very nervous but I was with people who have always been kind to me. There were Shah Rukh and Gauri, Imran and his fiancée Avantika, Yash uncle, Davidji (Dhawan). They all hugged me and said I was good.

• Why have you not done a romantic film after Saathiya?

Honestly, I really don’t know. Kurbaan has got a romantic track but Mission Istanbul and Shootout At Lokhandwala had zero romance. I have not done an out-and-out romantic film and I am really looking forward to doing one.

• People are saying that you have changed and that you want to leave the controversies behind and concentrate only on your work.

I wanted this for a really long time. However, after Shootout… things did not fall in place. Almost four years ago, when I did Omkara, I saw Saif getting under the skin of the character Langda Tyagi. I loved the work ethics. That’s when I thought that I should stop doing what I was doing, but I had a backlog to finish. Then my close friend Amit Chandra sat me down and helped me streamline my life so that I could practically achieve what I was trying to. Now, I have learnt not to take anything for granted.

• How did Ramu and you patch up?

I don’t think patch up is the right word as we were never at loggerheads. I will never have the audacity to say anything against Ramu and as an artiste, I will always be indebted to him for giving me Company. But when he called me and told me ‘I will never work with you again’, I was shocked. Now, when he called me and said that he had something for me, I was so happy. When I met him, he said that he could see the same passion in my eyes again and gave me Rakta Charitra. I felt exactly the same on the first day of Rakta Charitra that I felt on the first day on the sets of Company. Ramu made me feel so comfortable.

• You have done some amazing stunts in Prince, something which you are not known for.

Yes. Kookie Gulati is quite a whiz kid. I did so many things that I cannot possibly explain — right from learning how to skateboard, doing parkour, learning cable work, to action training. I had to put so many things into my system that after the training session, things became easier.

• You have said that you are done with apologising to people.

I made a mistake and it is human to make mistakes. Personally, I think it’s humbling and it’s also building character to stand up and say I made a mistake and please forgive me. It is always an ego-based thing to say that why should I apologise. It is a real man who can say ‘I am sorry’ and that too in public. I have said sorry to the assistant director whom I was rude to, I have said sorry to the movie star whom I had a fight with and I even said sorry to the director I snapped at.

WATCH OUT: Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan

SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 21, 2009)

It’s enough to make Bollywood sit up in horror… but this is not that kind of rumour. Shah Rukh Khan’s stunning and fashionable wife Gauri is reportedly doing a TV show for a popular channel that’s based on investigative crime stories. Not one to get into the reality show genre, Gauri’s production house is working on short crime stories on the lines of the hit TV show CID. Apparently, the buzz is that the Bollywood Badshah would like to rule Tellyland as well. And after producing a couple of shows for the idiot box, SRK is keen to do one like America’s Next Top Model which is hosted by Hollywood sizzler Tyra Banks. For this, Shah Rukh has apparently roped in Bollywood hottie Bipasha Basu and his show will be called Female Model Hunt.

Foes turn into friends, stars bonding big time now…

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 13, 2009)

Raj Kapoor’s famous ditty Dost Dost Na Raha can ring true for so many in Bollywood. Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher are some recent examples of friendships that have gone sour. The quest for name, fame and money has driven a wedge between friends. Down the years, one has seen many close relationships fall by the wayside like dry leaves, bereft of emotion. But an interesting phenomenon is now on the rise. Having watched countless friends turn foes, what is interesting now is to watch the reverse. Foes turning into friends.

When Hrithik Roshan blazed into Bollywood with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai in 2000, he almost wrested the reigning Badshah Shah Rukh Khan’s throne. With the paparazzi adding to their woes SRK and Duggu started out on a wrong foot. And SRK, who was hanging mid-air at a Filmfare Awards’ night event, joked saying, “Come Hrithik… come and pull me down.” However, that was another day. Today both Duggu and SRK are bonding big time. Sources say, “Every other night, the King and the Prince are dining together.’’ What makes their friendship more special is the fact that the girls, Gauri Khan and Sussanne Roshan, are also thick.

Aamir Khan admits that he didn’t approve of Salman Khan’s cavalier attitude to his work when they were filming Andaz Apna Apna. Said Aamir, “I even ticked Salman, Raveena Tandon and Paresh Rawal off during AAA because they had issues to resolve with the producer. And, they were treating the project badly.’’ Today Salman and Aamir are very good friends. Salman’s sketches on the Ghajini superstar are the piece de resistance at Aamir’s residence, and the boys often bond over a drink when AK’s wife Kiran Rao is out on her work assignment. Aamir even said, “That confrontation we had years ago has actually strengthened our bond.’’

Akshay Kumar admits that Suniel Shetty and he shared a hatelove relationship when they started out and now they have a love-love relationship which was in full force during the shoot of De Dhana Dan. Suniel said, “We were immature, yaar, now we’re men in our 40s. Where is the question of us fighting? It all seems so silly. Akki and I are not the best of friends but we do enjoy a camaraderie that is there for everyone to see.’’ If the Bollywood men are bonding big time, the women too have left their previous grievances aside and become friends. Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu who argued like cats during Ajnabi are now friends. And so are Bebo and Preity Zinta. Guess when the boys and the girls realise that they aren’t hunting the same game, they let their guard down.
Katrina hobnobbed all night with Shah Rukh, Shilpa Shetty couldn’t stop showing off her engagement ring and Gauri Khan danced enthusiastically till the cops came in and repeatedly asked host Hrithik to stop the loud music late on Sunday night

A near stampede resulted outside Hrithik Roshan’s building Palazzio, Juhu late on Sunday night when Hrithik threw a party to celebrate his wife Sussanne’s birthday. The who’s who of Bollywood attended the do and a throng of fans stood outside the gate to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.

Guests at the party included Shah Rukh-Gauri Khan, Saif-Kareena, Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar, Parmeshwar Godrej, Tusshar Kapoor, Arjun Rampal-Mehr Jesia, Chunky-Bhavna Pandey, Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra, Zayed Khan, Kajal Anand, Neelam, Kunal Kapoor, Vicky-Gayatri Oberoi, Sonali-Goldie Behl and Farah Ali Khan, amongst others.

Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza came in together, as did Dino Morea and his now on-now off girlfriend, designer Nandita Mahtani. While Gauri Khan was having a great time dancing, Shah Rukh, who came in an hour after her, was in a rather sober mood. Parmeshwar Godrej was in high spirits and was one of the last guests to leave the party.

Hrithik looked dapper, as usual, in a black shirt and blue jeans, while Sussanne complemented his attire with an elegant black dress.

Incidentally, Hrithik’s favourite co-star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did not attend the party. A source close to the Roshans said, “Abhishek was busy shooting, hence Aishwarya decided not to come.”

Hrithik’s good friend Priyanka Chopra was also absent. The actress’s official spokesperson said, “Priyanka could not attend Hrithik’s party because she wasn’t feeling too well due to food poisoning.”

Unlike most parties where Ameesha is usually accompanied by her boyfriend Kanav Puri, this time she came alone and looked quite lost.

A rather plump looking Katrina Kaif managed to raise quite a few eyebrows by hobnobbing with boyfriend Salman Khan’s arch rival Shah Rukh Khan. A close friend of Salman said, “Never before have we seen Katrina get along so well with Shah Rukh. Has she broken up with Salman?”

When we asked why Hrithik’s sister Sunaina did not attend the party, the source said, “Sunaina is a loner.”

Since Shilpa got engaged to Raj on Saturday night, everybody wanted to have a look at her huge ring. “Shilpa proudly showed it to almost everybody who was around. She was the centre of attraction all evening,” added the source.

The revelry ended on an unpleasant note when an irate neighbour complained about the loud music reverberating from the building’s 10th floor where the party was on in full swing. A few cops reached the venue but failed to take stock of the situation. They had to call senior police inspector Sawant who asked Hrithik to mellow down.

Friends walk the ramp for Karan Johar, but the designs bear no resemblance to his personal style

By Mitali Parekh (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 17, 2009)

Karan Johar has always had an eye for clothes. He has designed the clothes for Shah Rukh Khan since he starred in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in 1995. Having designed clothes for the suave star for about 19 years now, it is natural that he would showcase his line with SRK as the showstopper. Karan has also designed for Shah Rukh when he was the host for KBC3.

The industry turned up to support Karan’s endeavour. He chose to reflect the mood of the 1980s with Michael Jackson tracks playing, and chains, quilting, zippers, buckles, pointed biker shoes and studs. Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan opened the show. Karan had Dino Morea back on the ramp, sporting boxers with a blazer. Randeep Hooda walked the ramp in a suit, but the sprinkling of suits was eminently forgettable. Randeep and Dino were treated like the other models and didn’t appear for the final bow.

Finally, his muse, Shah Rukh, was the show stopper, who walked with Gauri Khan. Gauri, the only female accessory in this all-male show, played the hot rocker chick with pizzazz, in a metallic short skirt and a blouse. SRK sported a dinner jacket with biker jacket detailing with a chain fastening which extended from the breast to the waist pocket.

The collection showcased a range of sherwanis which borrowed the biker influence as well. Hardware and rugged seemed to be the buzzword here. The show, a collaborative effort of designer Varun Bahl and Karan Johar, was not remarkable, but one took note of the detailing.

Karan seems to have brought in is the production value and a sense of presentation, a mainstay in his films. However, if one was expecting his clothes to be an extension of his personal wardrobe, his collection was the polar opposite of his own sense of aesthetics.

Sandeep Khosla turned up, despite having dropped out from the Couture Week. Jaya Bachchan is said to have coaxed him into making an appearance.
