Television actress Narayani Shastri is dating producer Rahul Agarwal

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 01, 2009)

A lot is brewing between actress Narayani Shastri and the producer of Red Alert, Rahul Agarwal. Although Narayani isn’t part of Rahul’s film, he invited her to attend the premiere of the film with its cast and crew at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, last week.

Unit hands of Red Alert felt that Narayani was given extra special treatment in Goa. An insider from the unit said, “Narayani stayed in the same hotel with the entire cast of Red Alert. Rahul took very good care of her.”

Another source said, “Narayani spent quantity as well as quality time with Rahul in Goa. She took a lot of interest in the film. She was constantly with Rahul during the film’s premiere and he couldn’t stop blushing whenever they were together. Rahul is so fond of her now that he has cast her in his next film Na Ghar Ke Na Ghat Ke. Rahul will direct and also act in his next film while Narayani has bagged the lead role.”

Rahul simply laughed off the rumours and said, “We were just colleagues and then, we became very good friends. Narayani and I do hang out together. Frankly, there is nothing wrong in caring

about someone, is there? Narayani has amazing screen presence. I wonder why no filmmaker has discovered this yet. In Goa, I also discovered that she is quite popular. So what if she was in Goa with the team of Red Alert? She came to support me, what’s wrong in that?”

On the other hand, Narayani said, “Rahul is a superb guy and we share a great rapport but I am not dating him.”

Priyanka and Shahid have called it quits but coincidences continue to chase them. This time, it’s a mobile number in different films

By Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 21, 2009)

Rumour has it that Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor, who were “good friends” during the making of Kaminey, are no longer on talking terms. But destiny continues to play cruel games with them.

In Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, Priyanka, who played a model, displayed a mobile number on screen at every audition. Now, Shahid, who plays a film aspirant in Ken Ghosh’s Chance Pe Dance, was also spotted displaying the same mobile number in the theatrical trailer, which is being aired with Kurbaan.

Guess neither Priyanka nor Shahid wanted it this way but as luck would have it, both the films Fashion and Chance Pe Dance are being presented by the same film corporation (UTV). The unimaginative creative team must have taken the liberty of passing of what was once Priyanka’s to Shahid.

So, who does this number belong to? Shahid or Priyanka?

When we probed further, it was revealed that the number displayed on both Shahid and Priyanka’s audition board actually belongs to Ram Mirchandani, who was once working in UTV and is now with another corporate.

Soon after Fashion released, Ram had made his displeasure known about getting a hundred phone calls a day from people who thought that it was Priyanka’s number in real life.

Now one wonders whether Ram will still continue to get as many phone calls after people see the number displayed by Shahid, who is currently riding a wave.

A source says, “If it had struck Shahid that the number he was holding on the slate is the the same one that Priyanka had used in Fashion, he would probably have asked the writers to change it. Now he has just to live with the fact that what was once Priyanka’s is now his by default, if not by design.”

Commenting on the story, Ram says, “I didn’t know that Shahid was going to be displaying my number on a slate for Chance Pe Dance. Ken Ghosh and Shahid told me about it after they had shot the scene.  They told me it was done in good faith and I should be a sport.  I don’t think Shahid or Ken knew that Priyanka has used the same number in Fashion.  It is just one of those coincidences.”

KEEPING MUM: Mahesh Bhupati and Lara Dutta

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 16, 2009)

For a few months now, rumours have been flying fast and furiously that tennis ace Mahesh Bhupati is reportedly ‘good friends’ with Bollywood beauty and ex-Miss Universe Lara Dutta. But when she was promoting her film Blue, Lara categorically said that she was single. However, B-town continues to buzz about how Mahesh and Lara are more than just good friends. At a hairdressing salon in Bandra, whose owner is a friend of Lara’s, there was actually buzz recently that the two are going to get hitched. Which really, from BT’s point of view, is not a bad idea at all. But Lara and Mahesh continue to deny their personal equation on any level. Meanwhile, Shvetha Jaishankar-Bhupati, former Femina Miss India International 98 and a runner-up at the Miss International pageant in Tokyo, had issued a statement in October saying, “Mahesh and I have shared a life together and as we part ways, I wish him all best for his future.” Shvetha, an extennis champion, was also partners with Mahesh in running his celebrity management company and is actively involved in the social cause which deals with children’s education projects. She hasn’t reacted to the stories about Mahesh and Lara. Why should she? If they’ve parted ways, and if Lara is in the scheme of things in Mahesh’s life now, also if both Lara and Mahesh are cool about their relationship, we don’t see how it matters who’s doing what!

The demise of the Ranbir-Deepika relationship was hardly a shocker. But what propelled the two to call it a day? Here is the inside story behind the split

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 03, 2009)

Ranbir Kapoor Deepika Padukone

Though rumours of a break-up have been brewing for a while, it’s now clear that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have ended their relationship. Though various theories have been floating about the cause of their break-up, here’s the real reason why the two have parted ways.

Immediate speculation will point to Ranbir’s chemistry with Katrina Kaif. It’s hasty to pin the blame on Katrina though, as Deepika had seemed insecure before the pretty actress came into the picture. And it’s not Ma Kapoor that put the spanner in the works either.

Ranbir, after all, is a hot-blooded Kapoor. He is a natural charmer as far as women go and sooner or later, Deepika would have heard about his flirtations. Apparently, Ranbir isn’t too modest about it either. Discretion about his less-than-innocent encounters would’ve been highly advisable, but he hasn’t exactly been a posterboy for it so far. Common friends carried the news to Deepika, perhaps adding a bit of tadka for flavour.

This is when Deepika decided to call it off. Apparently, she told Ranbir to mend his ways since she had given a lot to this relationship. She had cut off ties with all her ‘good friends’ like Nihar Pandya and Yuvraaj Singh. So, she wanted Ranbir to give 100 per cent to the relationship as well. She kept hearing about his ‘friendship’ with Nandita Mahtani and other girls.

At this point of time, Ranbir started feeling suffocated in his relationship with Deepika. He asked for his space and Deepika justifiably wanted to know ‘What space? Aren’t we a couple?’

The final straw was hearing about his ‘crackling chemistry’ with Katrina. The next thing she did was to land up on the sets of Rajneeti in Bhopal, where Ranbir was shooting with Katrina. She stayed there for nearly two weeks.

After she came back from Bhopal, her relationship with Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s son was almost over. The crack first became evident at Shabina Khan’s birthday party two weeks ago where the two sat in different corners of the room.

And what about Neetu Singh? Mamma Neetu, who is said to have a very cold relationship with Deepika, did not play catalyst. A source says, “Neetu wants Ranbir to be happy. She will never go against his choice. Ranbir always treated Deepika as a girlfriend and not as someone special, basically there was no passion in their relationship.”

WUS

We all, in our childhood, had made a list of careers that we want to pursue when we grow up. But once we enter college, there comes a change in our mindset. We suddenly don’t feel like growing up. We shudder to think of our future when we would only be working with very little time for leisure and friends/family (I am passing through this phrase currently!). Some may claim that they never had such a feeling and that they were ambitious right from the beginning. But the truth is, everyone had gone or will go through this anxiety and even fear at some point of their academic life. Wake Up Sid deals with such similar issues. Although the protagonist is projected as highly lazy, almost everyone will be able to identify with him. This and the wonderful execution by debutant Ayan Mukerji makes Wake Up Sid one of the finest films to come out this year!

The story of the movie: Sidharth Mehra aka Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) is a lazy and non-ambitious youth who has just attempted his final year college exams. His life revolves around his friends, Rishi (Namit Das) and Laxmi (Shikha Talsania) and he loves hanging out with them. Sid’s mother (Supriya Pathak) loves him a lot but he doesn’t reciprocate. His dad (Anupam Kher) manages a big business and wants his son to take some responsibilities on his head. He tries but his efforts are futile. At this point, Sid comes across Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma), an aspiring writer from Kolkata. Sid and Aisha are as different as chalk and cheese (Ayesha is even older than Sid) but still both of them become good friends. Sid even gives Aisha the much needed help in settling in Mumbai. Soon, Sid’s final year exam results come out and his world turns upside down.

Wake Up Sid is very different and that is evident at several points. The film is completely original and tries to be interesting as well as not to fall into any stereotype. For instance, our Hindi films have got a habit of projecting ‘aamir baap ka bigda beta’ as lazy, irresponsible, arrogant and hot-tempered. But, Sid in Wake Up Sid is shown only as lazy and careless. He is not arrogant; in fact, he’s well-mannered and very sweet and cute!

One gets hooked to the film from the first frame. Note the scene where Sid is in the exam hall, dazed and confused, and his imagination goes wild! Ayan Mukerji’s creativity is exposed fully in that very scene! The wonderful entry of Konkona Sen Sharma and her first interaction with Ranbir takes the film to dizzying heights. The best scene of the film-Konkona’s birthday, will surely bring a smile on everyone’s faces!

The intermission point was explosive. The 2nd half tends to get a little slow but frankly speaking, one doesn’t mind as one enjoys the goings-on thoroughly. You get so involved in Sid’s gradual transformation from a good for nothing guy to a responsible youth that you care a damn about the duration! Also, Ranbir-Konkona’s relationship is very cute and will be loved by everyone! Who says Ranbir-Konkona pairing is a mismatch?

Wake Up Sid4

Most importantly, one learns a lot of lessons from the film. The best teaching from the film-let one decide which path he/she wants to choose. Everyone has different capabilities and likes. Many just hate the 9 to 5 job. In such times, one should be allowed to flourish and grow as he/she likes.

The film gets dragging in the last 15 minutes but again, one doesn’t mind as it’s very well executed. One comes out of the theatre feeling refreshed and satisfied!

The film rests on the rock-solid performance of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma. Ranbir was outstanding in my opinion in Bachna Ae Haseeno and in Wake Up Sid, he comes up with another amazing performance. He has put a lot of effort in the film and it is evident at several points in the film. Here’s an actor who deserves to be a superstar as soon as possible! He’s expected to give equally fabulous performances in the forthcoming Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Rajneeti! Watch out!

As expected, Konkona Sen Sharma does a splendid job. She was absolutely natural and completely in character. Also, she looked stunning throughout the film. It’s really great to see such an effortless actress being showered with awards, accolades and acclaim! She completely deserves it, after all! Keep rocking Konkona!

Surpriya Pathak was funny at times but overall impresses a lot. Anupam Kher was consistent. Namit Das and Shikha Talsania were wonderful in their respective parts. Rahul Khanna, like everytime, was charming but why did he played two similar roles in two films? In Love Aaj Kal, Deepika worked under him and she got floored by him. In Wake Up Sid, a similar situation arises between him and Konkona. Actors like Rahul Khanna deserve to get better roles! Kashmera Shah didn’t have much to do. The girl who played Tanya also was wasted. Others were good.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music was brilliant and their every song impresses. The title song and ‘Kya Karoon’ were rocking compositions. Amit Trivedi has composed the song ‘Iktara’ which is the best song of the lot. You’ll love the song more after watching the film! Trivedi’s background score was in sync with the light mood of the film.

Anil Mehta’s cinematography was superb. Notice how the scenes turn shaky during confronting scenes! Niranjan Iyengar’s dialogues were casual and something which we hear or speak in our day to day lives.

Amrita Mahal Nakai’s production designs was highly impressive. The sets were just outstanding. Konkona’s workplace was so cool and uber. Man, work would be so much fun if offices had such rocking interiors! Even Konkona’s house seemed so cute, even though it wasn’t huge. Great job by Amrita!

Special mention should be made of Karan Johar, who understood the importance of this film and decided to produce it. Really nice of him to give a chance to promising youngsters and guiding them! Great job!

Ayan Mukerji comes out as a winner! He wrote the story, screenplay and also directed the film and excelled in all three! The film is extremely simple and doesn’t turn out to be full of rona-dhona or melodramatic. Most importantly, Ayan keeps the mood of the film realistic. The characters in the film are believable and straight out of life and the situations they face seem totally real. In short, a brilliant job by Ayan, who is just 26 years old! Simply fantastic!

Some of the best scenes of the film:
1.   Sid in exam hall
2.   The song ‘Kya Karoon’, ‘Aaj Kal Zindagi’ and ‘Iktara’
3.   Sid and Aisha meeting for the 1st time
4.   Sid helping Aisha to decorate her house
5.   Sid in his dad’s office
6.   Sid with Aisha on her birthday (best scene of the film!)
7.   The intermission point
8.   Sid clicking pics of everything under the sun
9.   Sid and her mom looking at his childhood pics
10. The last 20 minutes of the film

On the whole, Wake Up Sid is simply a well-made film in all respects. It is simple, sweet and extremely relatable with great direction, extra ordinary performances and melodious music. A must for all youngsters and for all those who crave for good cinema! Go for it!

My rating-**** out of 5!

John Abraham has been closely bonding with socialite and jewellery designer Paulomi Sanghavi
By Mumbai Mirror Bureau (July 28, 2009)

John Abraham

John Abraham has been going steady with girlfriend Bipasha Basu for years now. However, John is now coasting on a huge popularity wave. Naturally, he is attractive bait for  women.

Rumour has it that he seems to have developed a close friendship with jewellery designer Paulomi Sanghavi. She has her own store in Mumbai and moves with the swish set, boasting of clients like Laila Khan and Manisha Koirala. It is but natural that their paths may have crossed.

In the fickle world of Bollywood, relationships are transient and rumours abound. John and Paulomi met through common friends and seem to have hit it off.

Paulomi Sanghavi

Though you may not see the two wining and dining, rumour has it that they get along like a house on fire.

But, of course, one can always have many ‘good friends’.
