After signing Akshay, Farah-Shirish to team up with Salman. Will SRK ever forgive Farah for courting his arch nemesis?

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 31, 2009)

The breach with Shah Rukh Khan seems complete. Shirish  Kunder is working on a script for Salman Khan, which he intends to direct immediately after he finishes with his John Abraham starrer, Alien Sahib.

As it is, Akshay Kumar is playing the lead in Farah’s next directorial venture Tees Maar Khan instead of Shah Rukh.

Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder

Both Farah and Shrish confirm their association with Salman. When asked if Shirish is working on a project with Salman, Farah cryptically says, “Not yet,” while Shirish says a categorical, “Yes.” The deal was sealed at Salman Khan’s birthday bash at Panvel on December 27 where Farah and her husband were special guests.

So where does this new development leave Farah’s seemingly everlasting friendship with her mentor Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh, it is well-known is at loggerheads with Salman. Friends of one superstar cannot hope to be seen at parties hosted by the other superstar, not after the two Khans fell out at Katrina Kaif’s birthday bash last year.

Both Shah Rukh and Salman have made it clear that the two can never ever be friends.

With Farah signing Akshay Kumar instead of SRK for her third directorial venture and Shirish Kunder set to work with SRK’s arch-enemy, the curtain has truly and finally come down on one of filmdom’s most gehri dostis… the one between Farah and Shah Rukh Khan.

Ishqiya’s second promo also stuck with censors over dialogue issues
By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 23, 2009)

It seems that the Censor Board and Vishal Bhardwaj are always at loggerheads. Now for the second time the promos of Ishqiya have been stuck with the censors over some dialogues and they have given them an ‘A’ certificate, which means that the promos cannot be aired on television.

Our source said, “The promos had a line that ‘Naadi tale H**** aur Peepal tale P****’ but censors gave an ‘A’ certificate to the 90-second promo. Now Shemaroo (the producers) and the cast and crew of the film have got together to make some changes to the promo so that it gets a ‘U/A’ certificate. Now the words have been changed to Naadi tale Khayenge aur peepal tale piyenge.”

When contacted Mansi Maroo, producer of the film said, “Basically the promos of the film, because of the language, are not being given a ‘U/A’ certificate, which is required to be screened on television. There are some modifications being made by the director Abhishek Chaube and Nasserbhai who is very helpful. They have made some changes while dubbing for the promo and hopefully it will be okayed by the censors.”

When contacted Vinayak Azad, Regional Officer Censor Board, said, “Yes, I have given an ‘A’ certificate to the promo and have also suggested some cuts for the promo. I believe they have gone to the revising committee and they will watch and decide its fate in a day or two.”

What a pity that creativity sometimes gets so embroiled in our squeamishness.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Hrithik Roshan are at loggerheads over the usage of English dialogues in Guzaarish. The director and actor have been indulging in verbal volleys over it.

Guzaarish has quite a few dialogues in English. In fact, most of the interaction between Hrithik and his co-star is in English. While Bhansali thinks it’s necessary to converse in the Queen’s language, Roshan doesn’t feel the same.

Recently there was a showdown between the two when Duggu went ahead and spoke some lines in Hindi, which were in English in the script. This upset Bhansali who told the actor that he couldn’t make changes and call the shots.

Meri marzi yaa teri marzi?
A source reveals, “Hrithik feels that an overdose of English will make the film too classy. It won’t cater to the masses that will come to see the film. He even suggested that Bhansali add subtitles, but the director isn’t quite convinced. He’s going ahead and using English lines wherever he thinks fit.”

The risks Duggu is taking
Apart from growing a beard, Hrithik has also been asked to pile on some extra kilos for the film. “Since his character is paraplegic and bound to a wheelchair, he will have to look chubby and let go of his muscular chiselled appearance.  Hrithik is pushing the envelope and taking huge risks with Guzaarish,” notes the source.

Hrithik and Bhansali remained unavailable for comment.

Vivek Oberoi on love, life and a fresh innings in Bollywood

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 27, 2009)

• You have got some good reviews for your role in Kurbaan.

Yes. I have not stopped smiling since the film’s release. At one of the trials, Bebo (Kareena Kapoor) and Saif (Ali Khan) did tell me that I was good in the film. Then Karan (Johar) and Rensil (D’Silva)also told me the same thing. I had not seen the film till then as I was shooting in Hyderabad. It was a nice feeling when Karan told me ‘finally you make me proud.’ I saw the film just a day before its release and I had knots in my stomach. I was very nervous but I was with people who have always been kind to me. There were Shah Rukh and Gauri, Imran and his fiancée Avantika, Yash uncle, Davidji (Dhawan). They all hugged me and said I was good.

• Why have you not done a romantic film after Saathiya?

Honestly, I really don’t know. Kurbaan has got a romantic track but Mission Istanbul and Shootout At Lokhandwala had zero romance. I have not done an out-and-out romantic film and I am really looking forward to doing one.

• People are saying that you have changed and that you want to leave the controversies behind and concentrate only on your work.

I wanted this for a really long time. However, after Shootout… things did not fall in place. Almost four years ago, when I did Omkara, I saw Saif getting under the skin of the character Langda Tyagi. I loved the work ethics. That’s when I thought that I should stop doing what I was doing, but I had a backlog to finish. Then my close friend Amit Chandra sat me down and helped me streamline my life so that I could practically achieve what I was trying to. Now, I have learnt not to take anything for granted.

• How did Ramu and you patch up?

I don’t think patch up is the right word as we were never at loggerheads. I will never have the audacity to say anything against Ramu and as an artiste, I will always be indebted to him for giving me Company. But when he called me and told me ‘I will never work with you again’, I was shocked. Now, when he called me and said that he had something for me, I was so happy. When I met him, he said that he could see the same passion in my eyes again and gave me Rakta Charitra. I felt exactly the same on the first day of Rakta Charitra that I felt on the first day on the sets of Company. Ramu made me feel so comfortable.

• You have done some amazing stunts in Prince, something which you are not known for.

Yes. Kookie Gulati is quite a whiz kid. I did so many things that I cannot possibly explain — right from learning how to skateboard, doing parkour, learning cable work, to action training. I had to put so many things into my system that after the training session, things became easier.

• You have said that you are done with apologising to people.

I made a mistake and it is human to make mistakes. Personally, I think it’s humbling and it’s also building character to stand up and say I made a mistake and please forgive me. It is always an ego-based thing to say that why should I apologise. It is a real man who can say ‘I am sorry’ and that too in public. I have said sorry to the assistant director whom I was rude to, I have said sorry to the movie star whom I had a fight with and I even said sorry to the director I snapped at.

Bet you didn’t know this. Mahima Chaudhary and Chitrangada Singh are cousins, and they’ve never even met each other
By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 22, 2009)

Mahima Chaudhary

Chitrangada Singh

Determined to be a prolific actress, Chitrangada perhaps wants to make her mark without any help, not even from her actress cousin — Mahima Chaudhary. They are second cousins, but remain strangers and don’t feel any compulsion to seek each other out.

Mahima’s mother and Chitrangada’s mother are first cousins. Elaborating on their relationship, our source said, “Their maternal grandfathers were brothers. Their mothers grew up together and even shared a lot in common. Strangely, Mahima and Chitrangada are not very close to each other.”

Chitrangada, who permanently shifted base from Delhi to Mumbai recently, even bought a house here. She confirmed that Mahima and she are cousins, but shocked us when she confessed, “I have never spoken to Mahima in my life. I haven’t even seen her. We never got to spend any summer vacations together.”

So are they at loggerheads? She shot back, “No way. You have to know a person to be at loggerheads with him or her.”

Creative differences crop up between Aamir Khan and Raju Hirani over the promos of 3 Idiots. Will this irreparably damage the relationship between the two powerful personalities…

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 22, 2009)

Raju Hirani

Aamir Khan

Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan have been getting along during the making of 3 Idiots… so far. Given Aamir’s reputation as a controlling actor, there were bound to be creative differences. The first crack has appeared as Aamir has disagreed with Raju Hirani over the promos that the latter has selected. The actor is convinced of his views, but Raju isn’t budging either. It seems like a clash of egos is in the offing as both, the actor and the director, have proved their creative mettle.

The conscientious Raju Hirani and an equally dignified Aamir Khan did not get into a verbal disagreement, but Aamir quietly left the office as he was entirely unmoved by the promo selection. The clash may lead to problems with the promotions as Aamir now remains unavailable to the film’s unit.

Our source said, “There were three promos cut for the first look. The selected promo will be incorporated with the release of London Dreams on October 30. One promo was unanimously rejected by the three strong-headed guys, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, director Raju Hirani and actor Aamir Khan. The promos which Aamir preferred showed the film as it is, while Raju wanted to show the spirit of the film in its first look. Raju was not in favour of the promo which was cut on Aamir’s behest. So, when Raju said that he wanted to use the promo that he has finalised, Aamir tried to reason with him for close to 45 minutes. Aamir then realised that Raju wasn’t going to change his decision. An irate Aamir just left the office. The creative difference happened on Sunday at Vidhu’s Bandra office and Aamir has not visited them since, although the unit has been calling him. There was also a promotional event planned for Oct 29 for the unveiling of the first look of the film. But no one knows if it will happen now.”

The source further said, “Not many directors have the guts to stand up for their ideas in front of a star like Aamir Khan and put their foot down saying that they want something their own way. Aamir might be upset right now, but we are sure that his respect for Raju will bring him around. However, right now all’s not well.”

Aamir Khan and Raju Hirani remained unavailable for comment.

Deepika Padukone makes a guest appearance in Main Aurr Mrs Khanna

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 16, 2009)

Deepika Padukone

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are at loggerheads, but that doesn’t stop the former’s discovery, Deepika Padukone, from being a part of a Salman-starrer. Deepika does a cameo in Sohail Khan and UTV Spot Boy’s Main Aurr Mrs Khanna that releases today.

Our source reveals, “Deepika achieved star status with her first film itself, courtesy, Shah Rukh Khan. And now, the Om Shanti Om actress makes a guest appearance in Salman and Kareena Kapoor’s Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. That SRK and Salman aren’t exactly friends has not deterred her from taking this step. A large part of Bollywood is all about camps, but looks like Deepika certainly isn’t restricting herself to any.”
