After signing Akshay, Farah-Shirish to team up with Salman. Will SRK ever forgive Farah for courting his arch nemesis?

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 31, 2009)

The breach with Shah Rukh Khan seems complete. Shirish  Kunder is working on a script for Salman Khan, which he intends to direct immediately after he finishes with his John Abraham starrer, Alien Sahib.

As it is, Akshay Kumar is playing the lead in Farah’s next directorial venture Tees Maar Khan instead of Shah Rukh.

Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder

Both Farah and Shrish confirm their association with Salman. When asked if Shirish is working on a project with Salman, Farah cryptically says, “Not yet,” while Shirish says a categorical, “Yes.” The deal was sealed at Salman Khan’s birthday bash at Panvel on December 27 where Farah and her husband were special guests.

So where does this new development leave Farah’s seemingly everlasting friendship with her mentor Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh, it is well-known is at loggerheads with Salman. Friends of one superstar cannot hope to be seen at parties hosted by the other superstar, not after the two Khans fell out at Katrina Kaif’s birthday bash last year.

Both Shah Rukh and Salman have made it clear that the two can never ever be friends.

With Farah signing Akshay Kumar instead of SRK for her third directorial venture and Shirish Kunder set to work with SRK’s arch-enemy, the curtain has truly and finally come down on one of filmdom’s most gehri dostis… the one between Farah and Shah Rukh Khan.

Shiney Ahuja’s character in Sudhir Mishra’s Hitman has been changed from an assassin to a repentant assassin, lest the role hampers his case

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 06, 2009)

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, who has been a mentor and friend to Shiney Ahuja, has once again proved his affection for the actor. Sudhir, who is doing Hitman with the actor, is shaping Shiney’s lead role in the film in such a way that it doesn’t harm his precarious position vis-à-vis the judiciary.

Sudhir Mishra Shiney Ahuja

The actor is out on bail after being imprisoned for alleged charges of raping his domestic help.

Confirming the news, Sudhir says, “Hitman is the story of an assassin who looks back on his violent life the day that he thinks he will die. We will certainly not show him in a light that will hamper his case or image. My writer, Vinitesh is putting together the character in a way that it doesn’t clash with Shiney’s interests. In my film, he is a repentant hitman. We want the law to take its course, but at the same time, we want Shiney to feel he is part of the mainstream.”

Sudhir, who speaks regularly with Shiney, who’s now in Delhi, says the actor had not quite recovered from his 100-day trauma. “He probably never will. No one can fully recover from such an ordeal. But at least friends should make him feel welcome and comfortable. If, as you say, he is being ostracised, then it’s really sad. Now that he is out, Shiney needs to lead a normal life, which he is struggling with currently. At the moment, he’s struggling hard to get back to being the way he was. I introduced Shiney because I had full faith in him as an actor and a human being. The only reason Shiney is not in my recent films is because he didn’t suit the roles.”

Himesh Reshammiya

Salman Khan

Himesh Reshammiya, who refused AR Rahman’s offer to sing for him, has now decided to make an exception to his golden rule only for Salman Khan.

“Anything for Salmanbhai! He just has to say it and I’ll do it,” says Himesh emotionally. According to reliable sources, Himesh will be composing and singing for Salman in the sequel to Wanted titled Most Wanted.

For the last two years, Himesh has stuck by his guns to create music only for himself. Breaking his own rule for Salman is a measure of Himesh’s restored love for the star who mentored and promoted him and then fell out with him.

Meanwhile, Himesh has pledged to show his new film Radio to Salmanbhai before anyone else. “I’m dubbing for Radio right now. As soon as I’m done, I want him to see it.” The special screening is likely to be held on November 20.

Himesh now chooses to conveniently forget all past differences with Salman. “After doing 11 hits together, Salmanbhai and I didn’t work together because I got busy with my acting assignments. He has always loved me like a kid brother.”

A source close to Salman scoffs, “Salman doesn’t forgive easily. Once he writes you off, no power on earth can convince him to take you back. Himesh had to work really hard on winning Salman back. The offer to score for a Salman starrer is Himesh’s way of showing how serious he is about the patch-up.”

Akshay Kumar immediately agrees to star in a film to be made by his mentor Pramod Chakravarthy’s son and grandson

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 05, 2009)

In Bollywood where relationships are based on one’s successes and failures, Akshay Kumar, despite being a superstar, certainly believes in standing by those who had helped him when he was a struggler. This is precisely why Akshay has agreed to star in Pramod Chakravarthy’s son Pradeep’s film, which will be directed by Pradeep’s son Prateek.

It was Pramod Chakravarthy who had given Akshay his Bollywood break with Deedar in 1992 opposite Karisma Kapoor. Akshay was a struggling actor for a long time till Pramodda gave him his first break in the film industry. Over the years, Akshay has always acknowledged the fact that whatever he is today it is because of Pramodda. Akshay has done two films with him, Deedar and Barood.

A source said, “Last week, Pramodda’s son, Pradeep had come to Mumbai from the US and that’s when he discussed the forthcoming film with Akshay who immediately agreed to star in it. Incidentally Pradeep’s son Prateek is filmmaker Vipul Shah’s assistant. It was Akshay who had introduced Prateek to Vipul after which he has been assisting Vipul for the last two years.”

Another source close to Akshay confirmed the news and said, “Akshay is known to do this for friends and he is definitely part of Pradeep and Prateek Chakravarthy’s film.”

Vipul Shah confirmed the news about Prateek and said, “Yes, Akshay had introduced me to Prateek about two years ago. Akshay told me that I must make Prateek my assistant and I immediately agreed. Prateek has assisted me in London Dreams and Action Replay.”

Despite repeated calls and text messages, Akshay Kumar remained unavailable for comment.

Anushka Sharma believes she’s a lucky girl…

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; September 15, 2009)

Aditya Chopra’s promising debutant Anushka Sharma continues her run as a big league player. After Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, one of the biggest blockbusters of all-time, Anushka is romancing Shahid Kapoor in Parmeet Sethi’s untitled venture. In December, she will team up with super-hottie Akshay Kumar in Nikhil Advani’s Patiala House. “I loved the script the moment I heard it,’’ she confesses. “However, I didn’t want to do anything impulsive. So I slept over it for a day and went back to Nikhil telling him I was most certainly on for the project,’’ says the heroine, who stands almost six feet tall. Anushka adds, “I have never met Akshay Kumar in my life and I’m going to be romancing him in my next project. I can’t tell you how excited I am. First I got to romance Shah Rukh, then Shahid and now Akshay. It is as if I’m walking on a cloud.’’

Has she talked to her godfather Aditya Chopra about this film? “Adi would hate it if I called him my mentor or godfather,’’
she says. “He and I are not friends. He is someone I hold in high regard. He holds a special place for me forever because he gave me a break every girl can only dream of. Adi is also too professional to ask me about the script of another film-maker. And I’m equally professional, so I will not reveal any details. But I can pick up the phone and seek his advice if I wish to. He is always there for his actors/technicians.’’

The Rab Ne girl admits that she is ruthlessly ambitious but will not resort to anything unscrupulous to attain great heights. “I started at the top with Rab Ne. Now I have to work double hard. An actor told me, ‘Anushka, you have been given a silver platter. Keep it clean.’ My desire, therefore, is to always try and put my best foot forward.’’ With her nose buried deep in the Patialia House script, she day dreams. About Akshay Kumar, perhaps…

Jackie Shroff Actress Renuka Shahane has debuted as a director and is all set with her first Marathi film titled Rita. This is the first time one will see Jackie Shroff in a Marathi flick, playing the role of a mentor. The movie is adapted from a Marathi novel, ‘Rita Welingkar’, which is written by Renuka’s mother and eminent critic Shanta Gokhale.

Renuka is excited about her first release. She says, “I chose my mother’s novel because it lends itself as a beautiful screenplay for a film. The characterizations were so well edged. And the essence of the main protagonist Rita works very well cinematically. Pallavi Joshi plays the central character and it is about her life span from the age of 8 to 40 and I play the role of her best friend.”

Renuka initially started writing for a Hindi movie screenplay. She says, “Initially, I started with a Hindi movie screenplay but something was missing and it wasn’t fulfilling and living up to expectations. I decided to go back to my roots and experiment something in Marathi. That’s when my mother’s novel, which I had read in 1993, struck me and I decided to translate the novel into a film. I spoke to my mom and she was shocked at first. I then began writing my screenplay in May 2007 and finished it by August 2007. My mother read the screenplay and her approval gave me the impetus to go ahead.”

Didn’t she think to cast her husband Ashutosh Rane for her directorial debut? She says, “The character required a 15 years age difference and needed to look old. No matter how much make up I would get on Ashutosh, he wouldn’t live up to the character. Jackie Shroff suited the role aptly.”

The Hum Aapke Hai Kaun actress can’t stop raving about how Ashutosh played a perfect husband by sitting at home all this while. She adds, “He played a very good husband and a father while I was busy with shooting. He didn’t take up any assignments. He also gave me various inputs with regards to the screenplay and direction of the film.”

Renuka also plans to make a movie in Hindi and cast her husband. She says, “I have two scripts ready one in Hindi and the other in Marathi. The Hindi script has my husband playing the most important role.”

The movie is produced by Pooja Shetty Deora’s Walkwater Media and is due to release on September 4.
