Sweeping aside the sceptics, Mudassar Aziz’s Dulha Mil Gaya — a comic caper shot for the most part in the Caribbean Islands, is slated for a mammoth release worldwide on January 8.
The film’s leading lady Sushmita Sen says DMG is a passionately told story and it has a delightful plot line. For her fans it is important because she teams up with Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan after their last super-hit
Main Hoon Na.
SRK has a pivotal role as Raj, while the film’s leading man Fardeen Khan (playing Shashank) has his own share of fun and romance.
It is now official that PVR has tied up to distribute this magnum opus through their network in Delhi, UP, East Punjab and Mysore. Morpheus Media Ventures, the films presenters, and Viveck Vaswani are gung-ho about their PVR tie-up. And the film will have a colossal release in terms of prints across the globe.
The title track of DMG is already a hit this wedding season with “baraats” all over blasting it. And for some live publicity action, on January 3, Fardeen will even dress in his bride-groom gear and drive in a chariot to a Mumbai mall to claim his bride Isshita Sharma.
What’s more, Bollywood Hungama has registered in excess of 1,75,000 hits on Dulha Mil Gaya’s theatrical trailer (more than any other forthcoming film), in less than one month. “I’m elated,” says writer-director Mudassar Aziz, “we made this music and this film only to entertain our audiences, them enjoying it leaves me gratified.”
“It has been a long but exhilarating journey. It’s been the best example of teamwork that I have ever seen. The unit stuck together through thick and thin. The scale of the film has to be seen to be believed,” said Viveck Vaswani, the producer.

Kannada matinee idol Vishnuvardhan, passed away of cardiac arrest yesterday

At the age of 22, H N Sampath Kumar was rechristened Vishnuvardhan by legendary director Puttanna Kanagala and he had fame and popularity literally seeking him out overnight. The Mysore-born actor would often call his entry into films as dynamic and expressed a desire to have a graceful exit. It turned out to be an unexpected exit in the early hours of December 30; and not just from films.

At 59, none of his fans, friends or family expected him to perish. The late actor was suffering from diabetes and had developed cardiac problems during his last days. He is survived by his wife, Bharati and two adopted daughters.

Vishnuvardhan made his film debut with a small role in Vamshavriksha directed by Girish Karnad in 1972. In the same year, he appeared in Puttanna Kanagala’s magnum opus Naagarahaavu, where he played the protagonist Ramachari, which remains a much-liked character to date.

A polyglot who could speak six languages, his life changed when films beckoned him. As Vishnuvardhan would recall later in life, he had neither enthusiasm nor love for films. “I was not a hard worker, but a sincere worker,” he summed up his film career. When his first photograph appeared in Chitradeepa magazine after his film debut, what the young Vishnuvardhan aspired was to be recognised by girls as he walked around Gandhi Bazaar.

At the time Vishnuvardhan married actress Bharati, she was a bigger star than him. Their marriage lasted for a lifetime but the couple was childless. They adopted two girls. But the actor never spoke about this aspect of life.

In the last few years, Vishnuvardhan had become a disciple of Bannanje Govindacharya and taken up vows of silence from time to time. He would avoid public platforms that would necessitate him to make tough statements or take stands. However, he held on to his beliefs and would never waver from his somewhat radical views.

Akshay Kumar, who is holidaying with his wife and son in Goa, expressed his shock about the superstar’s death. Akshay says, “I worked with him in Ashaant (1993) and I think, that is the only Hindi film that Vishnuji did. We shot it in his home town Bangalore, and he was so popular! Men, women and children came to him to be touched by him. He was like God. Newly-born babies were named after him.”

Akshay remembers the good times that they had while shooting the film. “Vishnuji was disciplined, focused and hard working. I have learnt a lot from him. We did a Hindi and a Kannada version of Ashaant. The Kannada version was a super hit. The Hindi version was a flop. I guess he was a much bigger star than I could ever be. As I speak about him now all the memories of shooting during that film flash through my mind. I met him in Bangalore much later. He was warm and very friendly. Was he just 60? That’s no age to go.”

Paa, 2012, DDD, Ajab Is the tide changing for better? Looks like! The last quarter of every year is most crucial, what with Diwali and Christmas being celebrated towards the final quarter of the year. This year was no different, with several biggies getting released in October and November.

WAKE UP SID and ALL THE BEST [in October], AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, 2012 and DE DANA DAN [in November] and PAA [in the first week of December] have infused oxygen in the lungs of an ailing industry. While APKGK and 2012 are supreme hits, DE DANA DAN is scoring well at single screens. In fact, the second weekend of DDD has been equally strong in several circuits – Rajasthan Rs. 40.30 lacs, Bengal Rs. 18.73 lacs, Nizam Rs. 21 lacs, C.P. Berar Rs. 37.6 lacs, Mysore Rs. 18.61 lacs and C.I. Rs. 29.65 lacs.

As for PAA, the Monday business has been strong too. In fact, better than Friday at several screens. Here’s hoping ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, AVATAR and 3 IDIOTS end the year on a prosperous note.

De Dana Dan opened to a good response of around 70-80% on day one. The collections were not a huge 90% plus as some of the trade had expected. Also business in circuits like West Bengal and Mysore was on the lower side. Multiplexes in North India saw collections in the evening and late shows at 95-100% but collections were not as strong in the rest of the country. The film will score over the weekend as Saturday is a holiday but it will have to sustain on Monday to recover big costs.

Kurbaan was below the mark in week one with collections around 19 crore nett. The 8th day is very poor and the film is a losing fare. FLOP

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani added around 6 crore nett to take its total in three weeks to 61.50 crore nett. SUPER HIT

All The Best picked up hugely on Sunday and remained rock steady throughout the week. The first week collections are in the 24 crore nett region with Gujarat having excellent collections. Mysore and West Bengal are one the lower side.

Blue has a good first week of around 32.50 crore nett for the hindi version. The film started superbly but has seen daily drops since Tuesday. It will be important to film to have a good second weekend. All circuits have seen good collections in the first week.

Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna is a flop with around 7.50 crore nett collections in week one. The film has been taken off many screens in week two.

Wake Up Sid takes its three week nett business to 25.25 crore nett. ABOVE AVERAGE

Wanted has grossed 59.75 crore approx in four weeks. SUPERHIT
