After Blue, Lara Dutta will flaunt her body in a bikini in Sajid Khan’s Housefull
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Unlike her film, Lara Dutta won a round of applause from everyone as she showed off her chiseled body in a bikini in Blue. And she is now cashing in on it. In her next film, Sajid Khan’s Housefull, she will show off her fabulous body in a bikini again. Lara says, “Let’s just say that there is an ocean dive in Housefull.”

Lara adds, “I didn’t have a choice about the bikini in Blue. I couldn’t possibly go underwater in a burqa, could I? I worked hard on my physique, and it did generate interest.

For Housefull, there’s a water sequence. So the swimwear is back. It’s not like I’m getting into a bikini for the heck of it.”

Tell her that her films are falling like nine pins at the box office and she is quick to defend them, “Sometimes you take a decision based on whim, and not logic.

Blue and Do Knot Disturb sounded like fun. Now I have Housefull which is a fun caper.

It gives me another chance to be a comic actor. Shooting for Housefull with my favourite actors Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani was fun.”

After going through several unpredictable but similar events, Mani Ratnam’s Raavana and Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti may be released in the same month i.e. in May 2010

By Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Raavana

Mani Ratnam’s Raavana, which is an adaptation of the Ramayana and Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti that is based on the Mahabharata, will release between two weeks of each other.

Initially, both the films were expected to hit the theatres in February 2010. But, due to the multiplex owners strike and a complex melee of other things the two epic films have been pushed to May 2010.

Trade circles are excited as the contemporary versions of the most followed Indian mythological tales will be pitted against one another. Raavana is very important for Aishwarya, who is playing Sita. So is Rajneeti for Katrina. An actor from the unit said, “Rajneeti is a very taut confrontation drama which will showcase Katrina in new light.”

Rajneeti

The two films have had their fair share of controversies. Nana Patekar walked out of Rajneeti three days before the film’s shooting came to an end, whereas, Bipasha Basu had to exit Raavana hours before the shoot.

Floods ravaged the sets of Raavana; and Manoj Bajpai’s accident put a small spoke in Rajneeti’s progress. And yet when it comes to the release, both films are expected to release around the same time.

Ranbir Kapoor shoots down the possibility of working with Imran Khan in the near future as he is only keen on solo-hero films

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Imran Khan Ranbir Kapoor

L ooks like the success of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has changed Ranbir Kapoor’s perception of his career graph. The actor, who till now was open to the possibility of starring with buddy Imran Khan in a film, has now had a change of heart. Ranbir and Imran, who received a lot of accolades for hosting the Filmfare awards together earlier this year, were inundated with offers of starring together in films.

Ranbir, who is currently shooting with Priyanka Chopra in Bangkok for Anjana Anjani, his second film with Siddharth Anand after Bachna Ae Haseeno, says, “Imran and I did one gig together at the Filmfare awards but we haven’t worked together after that.
We have been offered a whole lot of stuff but the offers never went beyond the preliminary stage. I don’t think Imran and I will be working together in any capacity in the near future. By God’s grace, I am in a position to do solo-hero films with terrific actresses and directors for the best banners. I am a selfish actor. I would rather have a film to myself than share it with another actor.”

Did something go wrong with their great friendship, one can’t help but wonder. The response is even more shocking as Ranbir admits that Imran and he are not exactly the thick friends they are made out to be. He says, “Imran and I are friends but not the best of friends. Where is the time for friendship? I don’t even have time for my parents. My only close friend in the film industry is Ayan Mukerji. I selfishly call my parents to my outdoor shootings to spend time with them. However, they avoid joining me on outdoors. They know what it’s like to be distracted. They have been there, done that. I’m doing what I love. So, no complaints.”

Rubbishing rumours of co-producing a film with Imran, Ranbir says. “People said I am co-producing a film with him. It will be really insulting if I don’t direct my first film for my home production (RK Films). I will feel really small and inadequate.

Imran Khan remained unavailable for comment.

John and director Sabal reconsider their decision to cast Jacqueline Fernandez

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Jacqueline Fernandez John Abraham

Jacqueline Fernandez, who  made her Bollywood debut in Aladin, was signed for a film by Sabal Shekhawat opposite John Abraham. Now it seems that John and Sabal, who are close friends, are having second thoughts about having Jacqueline as their lead actress.
A source said, “Jacqueline was finalised for this untitled film before Aladin released. At that time, Sabal was still in the scripting process and thought that Jacqueline was suitable for the role. John too thought that she was the right choice.”

“Sabal’s film is a thriller and requires a glamorous and sporty actress. Although Jacqueline fits the bill, Sabal and John are now considering other options.” added the source.

Sabal said, “Nothing has been finalised yet. We had a couple of meetings with Jacqueline but we haven’t arrived at a conclusion.” Is he looking for a younger face? “No. On the contrary, we are looking for an older face,” he replied.

“We had finalised Jacqueline but there are several other aspects to look into, like the film’s budget. We are in talks with several studios  and only once that is settled, we can talk about finalising the lead actress,” said Sabal.

Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai, who were dating for a few months, are no longer a couple

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Preeti Desai Abhay Deol

We had broken the news on March 20 that Abhay Deol was dating Preeti Desai, Miss Great Britain 2006. The two are no longer a couple.

The couple began dating soon after they were introduced to each other at the success party of Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D. Born and brought up in London, Preeti moved base to Mumbai more than a year ago due to her modelling assignments. The couple dated for a few months before calling it quits.

Perhaps, distance played the spoilsport in the relationship. While Abhay was in New York for a couple of months, Preeti was in Mumbai during the same period.

A source says, “Abhay enjoys life. His parting with Preeti is not shocking. It was bound to happen sooner or later. They have different likes and dislikes, which is one of the reasons why they could not sustain their relationship.”

However, the parting was amicable and Abhay and Preeti are still in touch.

Abhay has always been known as a ladies man.

While Abhay remained unavailable for comment, Preeti says, “Abhay and I are single. We are friends. I will not say whether or not I was dating Abhay. That’s my personal life and I don’t talk about it. At this point of time, I am friends with a lot of people in the industry.”

Katrina Kaif will miss the promotional events of her film De Dana Dan as she is down with jaundice and a low hemoglobin count

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Just when she needed to go all out to promote her film De Dana  Dan, Katrina Kaif has been diagnosed with jaundice and a low hemoglobin count. She has been advised complete bed rest  by her doctor.

The actress had been feeling queasy and weak since quite a few days but she kept ignoring the warning signals because of her hectic schedule.
This was until Sunday morning, when she couldn’t drag herself out of bed. “That’s when Katrina realised something was seriously wrong. She was taken to the doctor who performed a series of tests on her. It was found that her hemoglobin count had gone down drastically,” says a close friend of Katrina.

On Monday evening, Katrina was seen entering a suburban hospital looking pale and weak. She was in the hospital for nearly five hours. Finally, on Tuesday afternoon she was diagnosed with jaundice.

Katrina has been forbidden to move out of her home for the next couple of weeks but she insists on getting back on her feet much sooner because of her professional commitments.

Katrina’s business manager said, “She’s trying to rest so that she can fulfill her commitments as soon as possible.  The doctor has advised her complete bed rest.”

Aamir Khan has been denied permission to address a student gathering at the Sri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi to promote 3 Idiots today because of security issues; he is heart-broken

By Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Aamir Khan’s plan to address a huge gathering of 35,000 students from 14 colleges and select media persons at Sri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi today was foiled.
At the nth hour, the Delhi Administration cited security hazards and cancelled the permission given to the actor to address the gathering. Aamir, who is in the capital to promote 3 Idiots, was supposed to unveil a song and the theatrical promos of his new film.

Aamir, who had gone to New Delhi a couple of days ago, to attend a family wedding from his wife Kiran Rao’s side, is now heart-broken. Apart from being disheartened about not addressing the student gathering at the campus, Aamir was also dismayed about not being in the college where he was looking forward to serving and eating canteen food along with his guests today morning.

It is said that the actor personally called authorities in the State Government requesting them not to cancel his permission but to no avail.

Late last night, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production team was looking for a five-star hotel in Delhi as an alternate venue to hold the student-media meet.

Confirming the news, Aamir says, “I am sad that I couldn’t meet the students at their campus. I didn’t want to have the event at a five-star hotel. It goes against the character of the film. In fact, it is just what I didn’t want.”

Sources say that Aamir is doubly sad about missing out on addressing students in the Delhi University because something similar had happened with him during the promotion of Rang De Basanti, which was also a college campus drama.

A source from the production unit of 3 Idiots says, “This is the second time that Aamir has been denied permission to host a student gathering at a college campus and he was really upset by the turn of events last evening.”
