Priyanka Chopra wants to be cast opposite Abhishek Bachchan again, extends the olive branch through messages to Rohan Sippy

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2010)

Priyanka Chopra is a sharp woman with a firm business head on her shoulders. Knowing that her jodi with Abhishek Bachchan had proved to be popular, she sees no reason to let a little tiff come in the way of another hit together. So, she has decided to extend the olive branch to Bachchan Jr. The actress has been sending feeler messages to Rohan Sippy to be cast in his next opposite Abhishek Bachchan.

The Abhishek-Priyanka jodi became quite a hit in Rohan Sippy’s Bluffmaster. The duo worked in a couple of movies thereafter and was appreciated. But it may be recalled that the friendly bonding between the two had been strained last year at a film award event when the two wanted to dance to the same number and a misunderstanding ensued.

Abhishek, who had even jokingly called Priyanka his heartthrob on national television in the past, hadn’t taken kindly to Priyanka’s obstinate behaviour at the event, and thereafter the two never crossed paths again.

A source reveals, “Priyanka has sent feelers to Rohan and is keen to work on this project. She has heard the gist of the script and she liked it. Moreover, Abhishek Bachchan’s presence has attracted her to the film. She finds him fabulous as an actor and loves their on-screen pairing.”

The director, of course, takes the diplomatic route. Rohan says, “I would definitely love to work with Priyanka, as she is a fabulous actress and I really enjoyed working with her. However, I have not yet approached anyone for the female lead for this film till I lock in some other critical casting.”

Even if he hasn’t made up his mind, has Priyanka been artfully bringing herself to his attention? He says, “That’s totally flattering. She is one of my favourite actors.”

Ashutosh Gowariker and Madhur Bhandarkar are friends again
By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 11, 2009)

Ashutosh Gowariker rubbed Madhur Bhandarkar the wrong way when he took digs at Priyanka Chopra at an awards function not so long ago. She was starring in Fashion then and the director Madhur Bhandarkar hadn’t taken too kindly to the remarks. However, when the wives are close friends, the animosity is bound to not last long.

As predicted, the two are friends again after having made up. No one knows who extended the olive branch, but the two have reconciled.

The patch-up happened a few days ago. A source reveals, “The relationship between the two families was too strong to be broken. Madhur’s wife Renu and Ashutosh’s wife Sunita, in particular, were very friendly . They are back to being thick friends again. None of them will tell you who took the initiative to patch up. All’s well that ends well.”

When asked to confirm that all was well between the two families now, Sunita Gowariker maintained, “It always was,” and added, “There was never a fall out for a patch-up to happen.”

Both sides take the same stand. Renu Bhandarkar said, “Everything is fine between Madhur and Ashutosh. Sunita and I meet up frequently. There is no problem.”

The trouble had started brewing when Priyanka won the best actress award for Madhur’s Fashion. Ashutosh compared Priyanka with Aishwarya and expressed his shock for Aishwarya not winning the best actress award as she was also nominated for Jodhaa Akbar in the same category. Madhur had shot back in the press, saying, “Ashutosh’s viewpoint was in a very bad taste, because it was a public podium where you just cannot demean anyone, especially Priyanka Chopra who, besides the fact that she had acted in my film Fashion, is also a dear friend.”

After that, both of them wanted to release their films (What’s Your Rashee? and Jail) on the same day at the box-office. That IMPAA did not permit Madhur to release it on the same day is another story.

At any rate, it’s all in the past now.

Bipasha extends the olive branch to Vidya ending a three-year long cold war

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 16, 2009)

The three-year-old cold war between Bipasha Basu and Vidya Balan has ended, thanks to Bipasha. The two actresses who would often bump into each other at social dos refused to acknowledge each other.

This happened recently at the party of All The Best at a suburban five-star hotel.

The buzz is that the two actresses have not been seeing eye-to-eye ever since rumours of John Abraham’s onscreen and off-screen chemistry with Vidya during Nikhil Advani’s Salaam-e-Ishq (2007) started doing the rounds. Apparently, the whispers regarding the two started when they shot a romantic scene under a dupatta. It is said that despite Advani calling for a cut, John and Vidya continued to remain inside the dupatta for at least a minute before coming out of it.

There were reports that Bipasha had persuaded John not to work with Vidya after Salaam-E-Ishq. This time however, Bipasha let bygones be bygones. When Vidya entered the party, Bipasha was already present. While chatting with everyone, the cast and crew of the film reminded Vidya that she was the original choice for Bipasha’s role in All The Best.

During the course of the conversation, Bipasha, who was also in the group, broke the ice by approaching Vidya. A source says, “Bipasha just went up to Vidya and hugged her.”

Vidya, who didn’t expect such warmth from Bipasha, was shocked.

The source adds, “Before it could all sink in, Bipasha was already talking to her with a big smile on her face. Later, John too spoke to Vidya.”

Bipasha did not deny that she met Vidya at the party. However, she maintains, “I never had any problem with Vidya. Many ridiculous stories are printed every day in the media. I don’t change my attitude towards people according to them.”

However, Vidya chose to remain mum about the issue.

WHAT AN ACT: Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

A strange dostana is being formed by the actress with Abhishek and John for Karan Johar’s sequel…

SUBHASH K JHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 3, 2009)

This latest development in Bollywood epitomizes the song Kitne Ajeeb Rishte Hain Yahan Par. Kareena Kapoor, who a few years ago was on uneasy terms with Karan Johar, has completed one major film Kurbaan with his production house and is now in the thick of another major project, Stepmom, costarring Kajol. And the buzz is that the actress is all set to take over the leading lady’s mantle from Priyanka Chopra in the Dostana franchise.

katzThis is a serious olive branch exercise for Kareena since it not only makes this her third prestigious film in a row for Karan, but also brings to an end her long-standing strained relations with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. With John, Kareena had locked horns after her comments on his acting abilities made on Karan’s chat show. The rift with Abhishek was far more serious. The actors had decided not to work together after things soured between Abhishek and Kareena’s sister Karisma Kapoor. Says a source, “Ironically, Kareena had been dropped from the first Dostana because she couldn’t work with Abhishek. And now she’s back in Dostana 2. Never say never again, at least in Bollywood, where equations change every Friday.”

Incidentally, Katrina Kaif was a serious contender for Dostana 2. In fact, rumours were that she had almost been finalised. However, director Tarun Mansukhani denies casting Katrina. “How could I finalise anyone until I finished the script except John and Abhishek who are an integral part of the Dostana brand,” he asks. About casting Kareena, the director says noncommitally, “We are almost done with the script. At the moment I’m neither confirming not denying Kareena’s presence.” The story of Dostana now moves from Miami where Abhishek and John shared a flat masquerading as a gay couple to London where they continue to play gays.
