DANCING AWAY: Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s film is going to be the mother of rom-coms, say its makers

This is going to be a ghazab ka phillum simply because the hottest sensations of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, are coming together on screen as a jodi for the first time. The promos of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
already have people rating them as a hit. Tips Films, which is presenting this romantic comedy, believes that it has a winner, given its earlier track record — Race and Kismat Konnection. Like Ranbir and Katz, producer Ramesh Taurani too is excited about his offering because it’s directed by Rajkumar Santoshi who has given hits like Andaz Apna Apna, Barsaat, Damini and many others. “Ajab… is even more hilarious than Andaz Apna Apna,” said Taurani, “in fact, if Andaz had comedy, Ajab has comedy and romance in it.” Telling BT why they chose Ranbir and Katz, Santoshi said, “The film required a fresh pair. We were very impressed with Ranbir and Katrina. They have great screen presence and their fans will love them in this film.” The stars hit it off instantly on day one. They shot extensively on exotic locations in Turkey, Goa and Ooty, and like in the film, they had fun on the sets too. “Don’t go by her looks, she’s a bully,” said Ranbir as Katrina smiled and added, “People across all sections will be able to relate to this film.” The music, too, is catching on with audiences and topping charts, especially the song Tera Hone Laaga Hoon.
“The song wasn’t choreographed as such. The two were told to be natural and their screen presence added magic to the song,” said the filmmakers. Pritam, who scored the music, roped in some big singers like Atif Aslam, Kailash Kher, KK, Sunidhi Chauhan, Alisha Chinoy and Hard Kaur for this rom-com which is set to hit theatres on Novembe 6.

Nikhil Dwivedi Nikhil Dwivedi has shaved himself bald for Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. The actor was initially hesitant, but director Mani, being a professional made him go clean.

A source revels, “Nikhil plays the role of a cop. Ravi Kissen, who plays Abhishek Bachchan’s brother in the movie, is shaving him off bald for revenge in the film. Nikhil was reluctant and was not willing to go bald. Mani sir explained him the importance of the scene and after having a discussion with the director for over an hour the actor agreed and went thin on top.”

The source continues, “After the Ooty shoot minus Govinda, the crew is currently shooting in Malshej Ghats, on Pune- Nashik highway. Cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya, Ravi Kissen and Nikhil Dwivedi are present. The shoot is happening at a very difficult location. It is spectacular but it is a one-hour walk in muck. It is a very tough terrain to shoot.”

Govinda rubbishes rumours that Mani Ratnam is unhappy with him in Raavana
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 11, 2009)

Govinda

Though Govinda is not letting the cat out of the bag, in Mani Ratnam’s Raavana he plays the man who guides Aishwarya Rai’s screen husband (Vikram) through the difficult forest terrain chasing the social outcast who has kidnapped his wife. In fact, his role is not loosly based on Lord Hanuman anymore.

All the mythological analogy is being cleared out of Mani’s film and Govinda’s role is the first to benefit from the cleansing act. What started as an extended cameo has now become a full-fledged role.

Meanwhile, rumours doing the rounds about Govinda’s eccentric behaviour have not affected him. He said, “If I’m so difficult why did Mani offer me such a role?” According to Govinda there’s absolutely no truth to the rumours that Mani is unhappy with him. “In fact, my character of  the man who guides the protagonist  through the  forest has shaped into an  achha khaasa role as the film progressed.”

Apparently, Mani is so pleased with Govinda that he has offered him another film. Commenting on his work, Govinda said, “Bahut mushkil se mujhe kaam phir mila hai (I’ve got work again after much difficulty). I’ve to concentrate on holding what I’ve found after a long struggle rather than give importance to people who are trying to malign me.”

“Mani, Santosh Sivan (cinematographer), Abhishek (Bachchan) and I have been shooting happily for the film. Recently, when an elephant killed his mahout in Kerala, the unit had to shift to Ooty where I will be joining them on August 18,” he added.
