Shahid Kapoor had trouble dubbing for Chance pe Dance; the stress is taking a toll on his health

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 17, 2009)

Shahid Kapoor’s hectic schedule is troubling the actor. The stress is showing as he had trouble dubbing for Ken Ghosh’s Chance Pe Dance on Tuesday. Since the dubbing didn’t go well, the next day’s work had to be cancelled too.

It’s no wonder that Shahid’s health is affected. After all, he flew in from Bangkok on Sunday night after wrapping up a month-long schedule for Parmeet Sethi’s untitled film. On Monday, he shot all night for Parmeet’s film in Mumbai.

As he had a commitment to dub on Tuesday, he showed up like the true professional. But he was unable to deliver as the dubbing was not up to the mark. A source reveals, “He couldn’t get the pitch right due to lack of sleep and adequate rest. He tried several times and lost his voice in the process. He also took a break for an hour to redub, but it was in vain.”

Eventually, the dubbing was cancelled and Shahid also called off the dubbing the next day. Director Ken Ghosh says, “Yes, I’m aware there was some problem with Shahid’s voice, but I don’t know the actual reason. He must be very tired after shooting back to back and flying down from Bangkok.”

Shahid’s spokesperson confirms, “Due to work commitments, a hectic schedule and lack of sleep, his voice was a bit strained but he is ok now and should finish dubbing by tomorrow.”

Shahid Kapoor has asked for additional bodyguards as embarrassing acts by his female fans are getting too hot to handle

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 09, 2009)

Shahid Kapoor is realising that stardom comes with its share of fan following, which can flatter and also embarrass one. Even as girls are going weak-kneed over Shahid’s cute boy-meets-hot body image thanks to his soaring popularity post Jab We Met and Kaminey, the actor feels that his female fan following is proving to be a major threat. Consequently, the actor has demanded extra bodyguards during all his future shoots

Shahid is currently shooting in Bangkok for Parmeet Sethi’s untitled with Anushka Sharma for Yash Raj Films. We had reported on November 12 about how a group of Indian girls on a Bangkok beach had demanded that Shahid should completely bare his upper torso for them. Being the shy guy that he is, Shahid, of course, was extremely embarrassed. A source says, “Shahid has a huge female fan following and is constantly mobbed at various places. At times it becomes too risky for him. Not wanting to cause any further problems, the actor has now asked for extra security.”

The source continues, “Usually, Shahid also has fans waiting outside his vanity van and they refuse to move till he meets them. This at times hampers the shoot schedule, disturbing not only Shahid but also the film unit. Now, Shahid wants a group of 5-6 bodyguards to be with him on the sets and also whenever he is shooting at an outdoor location where there is a greater risk of fans barging in on the sets.”

An official from YRF,downplayed the request and said, “We haven’t got extra guards for the shoot. YRF, does have adequate security for all its shoots at all times. Should an artiste ask for additional security, it will most certainly be provided. However, no additional security has been asked for during this shooting schedule.”

Hardcore vegetarian Shahid Kapoor is delighted with his newfound love for sushi

By Sonal Chawla / Deepak turbhekar (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 08, 2009)

This year’s sexiest vegetarian man in Asia, Shahid Kapoor, who doesn’t even eat eggs in his cake, has recently discovered a love for vegetarian sushi. The actor was recently introduced to the delights of the Japanese dish’s vegetarian version in a Bangkok restaurant Esao and has not stopped eating it since.

Since the past three weeks Shahid has been shooting for Parmeet Sethi’s untitled film in Bangkok with co-star Anushka Sharma. The actor has been shooting non-stop and after pack-up the unit usually goes out together for dinner. A source says, “After they wrap up early from shoots or on off days, Shahid rushes to the restaurant and relishes their sushi. The actor was unaware of vegetarian sushi till he went to this restaurant.”

“Shahid was initially unsure about tasting sushi but one of the unit members asked him to try it, and to Shahid’s surprise, he loved it. After that day, Shahid has been having vegetarian sushi almost daily. One rarely finds vegetarian food joints in Bangkok. For the first few days, Shahid had very limited options and would only eat at selected places. Now, Shahid is really excited about his new favourite dish. Every time the cast and crew go out, they all know what Shahid will order. Often the crew orders vegetarian sushi for Shahid even before he does. He also recommends it to everybody,” added the source.

Shahid confirmed his love for the Japanese dish. “I tried the vegetarian sushi at Esao and loved it,” he said.

Shahid was mortified when some female fans repeatedly insisted, ‘Ganji nikal na. Bas kya?’ while he was shooting in Bangkok yesterday

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 12, 2009)

Shahid Kapoor has set some rather high standards for himself by baring his chiselled body in Kaminey. And it’s something that he finds is not so easy to live up to. Take for instance what transpired on a beach in Bangkok, yesterday morning. A group of Indian girls on the beach demanded that Shahid should completely bare his upper torso for them.

The unusual demand happened on the sets of  Yash Raj Films’ next being directed by Parmeet Sethi. Shahid was shooting for a song where he had to take off his shirt while running out of the sea dressed in a vest and shorts. As soon as he took off his shirt, the girls started saying out loud: “Ganji (vest) bhi nikalo, jaldi ganji bhi nikalo’.

Shahid, known for his reticence, was horrified. An eyewitness says, “Shahid didn’t know where to look. He looked at Parmeet expecting him to tell the girls to stop passing comments.”

While the unfazed girls went very close to where Shahid was standing, neither Parmeet nor Ahmed Khan (choreographer) helped Shahid and they refused to tell the girls to step aside. “The security guards present on the sets too did not take any harsh steps because they were girls,” added the source.

What followed thereafter was even more embarrassing for Shahid. The girls started following Shahid and kept saying loudly, ‘Ganji nikal na. Bas kya?’ “Shahid, of course, did not oblige and was feeling extremely shy.”

Even after the shoot wrapped up, they followed him to his vanity van and waited outside for a long time. “They left only after the security guards politely asked them to leave. Only after that did Shahid agree to emerge from his vanity van and drove off to his hotel,” said the source.

Ahmed Khan confirmed the incident and said, “Ranbir and Shahid are two very popular stars today and both have a huge female fan following. I think every girl wants to see their bare chest.”

Staunch vegetarian Shahid Kapoor is not too happy with the limited variety of food that he gets whenever he is out of India

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 09, 2009)

Shahid Kapoor, who was voted as the Sexiest Vegetarian in Asia according to a poll conducted by PETA in June 2009, is now feeling a tad edgy as he is scheduled to go for a shooting schedule to Bangkok tonight.

Shahid, who is off to shoot for Yash Raj Films’ untitled film, directed by Parmeet Sethi, is worried that he won’t get sufficient variety of vegetarian food in Bangkok.

Shahid also had a tough time for the same reason in the US where he stayed for 40 days last month while shooting for the same film. A friend of Shahid says, “Shahid serves non-vegetarian food to his friends whenever he has a party at home but himself is a staunch vegetarian. He doesn’t even eat eggs.”

“Many hotels abroad do not have much to offer as far as vegetarian food is concerned. When he was in the US last month, his man Friday had to especially instruct the chefs in the hotel what he likes and dislikes so that they could accordingly cook for him. A similar thing might happen in Bangkok,” adds Shahid’s friend.

While Shahid remained unavailable for comment, his official spokesperson confirmed the story.

TROUBLED: Shahid Kapoor.
The actor spends 90 minutes at the US immigration

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; October 26, 2009)

Shah Rukh Khan’s ordeal on August 15, at the New Jersey immigration, threw light on a problem constantly being faced by Bollywood stars and their staff. And now like King Khan, Shahid Kapoor too apparently spent 90 minutes at the New York airport, while the authorities grilled his spotboy Mohammed Manjoor Allam, better known as Mamu in Bollywood. Mamu, an elderly gentleman, has been taking care of Shahid since childhood and is working as the actor’s valet or spotboy. Shahid is currently in the US for a 40-day schedule of Parmeet Sethi’s untitled venture being produced by Aditya Chopra. He had left for the US days prior to the release of his film Dil Bole Hadippa! along with actress Anushka Sharma, choreographer Ahmed Khan and a close-knit unit. For the first leg of the shooting, the unit was in Philadelphia and from there, they packed to move to the Big Apple last week. It was during his entry into New York that Mamu was asked to step aside and questioned separately as his name needed special clearance. A member of the unit said, “The questioning lasted for nearly 90 minutes. Though Mamu has travelled extensively to most countries with Shahid, USA is the only country he had not visited.” When Mamu was stopped at the airport, Shahid sensed that he was very nervous, especially since he wasn’t very fluent in English. Shahid didn’t allow him to feel isolated in a foreign land and sat with him throughout the questioning. Mamu was eventually let off, however, the airport did not give a reason for this 90-minute questioning. The actor was unavailable for comment, but his official PR spokesperson confirmed the news. “Yes this incident did happen,” she told BT.

Anushka Sharma believes she’s a lucky girl…

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; September 15, 2009)

Aditya Chopra’s promising debutant Anushka Sharma continues her run as a big league player. After Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, one of the biggest blockbusters of all-time, Anushka is romancing Shahid Kapoor in Parmeet Sethi’s untitled venture. In December, she will team up with super-hottie Akshay Kumar in Nikhil Advani’s Patiala House. “I loved the script the moment I heard it,’’ she confesses. “However, I didn’t want to do anything impulsive. So I slept over it for a day and went back to Nikhil telling him I was most certainly on for the project,’’ says the heroine, who stands almost six feet tall. Anushka adds, “I have never met Akshay Kumar in my life and I’m going to be romancing him in my next project. I can’t tell you how excited I am. First I got to romance Shah Rukh, then Shahid and now Akshay. It is as if I’m walking on a cloud.’’

Has she talked to her godfather Aditya Chopra about this film? “Adi would hate it if I called him my mentor or godfather,’’
she says. “He and I are not friends. He is someone I hold in high regard. He holds a special place for me forever because he gave me a break every girl can only dream of. Adi is also too professional to ask me about the script of another film-maker. And I’m equally professional, so I will not reveal any details. But I can pick up the phone and seek his advice if I wish to. He is always there for his actors/technicians.’’

The Rab Ne girl admits that she is ruthlessly ambitious but will not resort to anything unscrupulous to attain great heights. “I started at the top with Rab Ne. Now I have to work double hard. An actor told me, ‘Anushka, you have been given a silver platter. Keep it clean.’ My desire, therefore, is to always try and put my best foot forward.’’ With her nose buried deep in the Patialia House script, she day dreams. About Akshay Kumar, perhaps…
