FLYING HIGH: Ranbir Kapoor, Jaideep Sahni and Shimit Amin at the Radio Mirchi studios

Ranbir Kapoor rocks Radio Mirchi studios in cheeky broadcast for 98.3 FM

NIMISHA TIWARI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 10, 2009)

Look who’s flying rockets at the Radio Mirchi studios in Lower Parel…Ranbir Kapoor aka Rocket Singh, the sexiest Surd in town. Though he was clean shaven for this appearance, the hot new kid on Bollywood’s block said, “I look sexy even with a beard, you gotta check me out in Rocket Singh!” That toh the actors fans are bound to do when the Yashraj Films’ release hits the screens on Friday, but before that, you can catch the high-octane interaction Ranbir had at Radio Mirchi by tuning in to 98.3 FM and also listen to songs from the new film and win attractive merchandise.

With him were Rocket Singh director Shimit Amin (of Chak De! India fame) and Jaideep Sahni who wrote the screenplay of the film. The actor spoke about his character in the film which is all about toppers in life — not necessarily toppers in school or college — even while making paper rockets and sending them darting all about the place. He joked with two female listeners of the radio station who were invited to meet him. One complimented him on his debut flick Saawariya. And the other asked him to adopt her “as maa, baap anything”. Both, Rocket Singh and Ranbir Kapoor blushed!

COFFEE BREAK: Amitabh Bachchan, watched by Vidya Balan, signs autographs on a mug for Radio Mirchi listeners at the radio station studios
Auro’s aura takes over Radio Mirchi

SANAYA CHAVDA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; December 7, 2009)

Auro’s aura charmed Radio Mirchi listeners as Amitabh Bachchan, in the voice (if not the avatar) of his character from Paa — last Friday’s hit release from Big Pictures and AB Corp — had the 98.3 FM’s airwaves humming with excitement. Just as the film took over the box office, so did Auro the Mirchi studios as Bachchan, accompanied by actress Vidya Balan, did an enthralling sonmother act for the leading radio station.

Bachchan, who was asked about his experience of going on radio as against before the camera, said, “Radio is about speed, improvisation, quick-witted repartee, the dexterity of managing several jobs almost simultaneously, knowledge of the software and the computerisation of all equipment … and just the effort in keeping it going at an unimaginable speed… it’s simply incredible!” Subsequently, delighted by his experience at Radio Mirchi where the staff dressed in school uniforms and sang the Auro signature tune for him, Bachchan wrote on his blog, “The world of radio is a world by itself. Large, progressive, personal, full of fun and full of under 25 year olds… overwhelming and so, so endearing.”
To get more updates on Paa and listen to its music, tune into Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. You can also get a chance to win attractive Paa merchandise from the movie.

ON AIR: Kareena at the Radio Mirchi Studios. Tune into 98.3FM for the songs from Kurbaan and Kareena’s interview

Kareena Kapoor talks to Radio Mirchi’s listeners about the initiative and her new film

REAGAN GAVIN RASQUINHA Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 16, 2009)

While last year’s terror attacks during 26/11 left us dazed and confused, stories about acts of outstanding bravery, kindness and generosity also abound. Acts that make us proud to be from this city. Highlights in a cloud of grey, that let us know that humanity shines through no matter what. Mumbai will never forget the bravery displayed by the NSG, the policemen or the firemen.

To honour these heroes, Radio Mirchi has organised a special screening of the film Kurbaan. Kareena Kapoor was recently on Radio Mirchi’s Sunset Samosa with RJ Suren to talk about this initiative and her upcoming film. Visiting the Radio Mirchi studio after a gap of six years, the stunning actress spoke about her role in the film. She said, “I think this is one of my best roles after Jab We Met, so I am very excited about it. Karan came up with ‘Some love stories have blood on them’ because the film is very intense; blood here refers to the pain.”

Produced by Dharma productions and directed by debutant director Rensil D’Silva, Kurbaan stars Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Kirron Kher and Om Puri. Salim-Suleiman who are the music directors have given a fantastic score for the film which can be heard on Radio Mirchi. Suleiman’s favourite here is a song called “Rasiya, as it is has dark undertones and really sets the mood for the images it accompanies in the film.” On her part, Kareena continues, “The lyrics of all the songs are beautiful. Ali Maula is a very gripping song; the film comes to life in this song.” The popular Shukran Allah is already climbing the charts.

Pleased with the special initiative take by Mirchi, Kareena asked Radio Mirchi listeners to nominate those people they know who helped out during 26/11. The nominees will be able to attend the special screening of Kurbaan where the lead star Saif Ali Khan will also be present.

LOL: Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor take a coffee break with Rajkumar Santoshi and Ramesh Taurani at the Radio Mirchi studios
Ramesh Taurani’s laughing all the way with his new release…

TIMES NEWS NETWORK (BOMBAY TIMES; November 13, 2009)

“Fortune favours the brave,’’ says trade consultant Amod Mehra. “Ramesh Taurani of Tips had full faith in his latest rom-com Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani that released on November 6. He, therefore, released it himself all over. Today the film looks slated to become one of the biggest hits of 2009, and if that happens, Ramesh will be laughing all the way to the bank,’’ adds the trade pundit. Taurani of course is pleased as punch. “I knew from the very start that I had a winner on hand,’’ says the producer. “Everything about the film from the story to the emotions, music and its lead actors felt right.’’ He prophesises that Katrina Kaif and Ranbir will even sweep all the awards for APKGK.
Director Raj Kumar Santoshi is more subdued in his reactions but ecstatic all the same. “I’m glad that people are seeing my film three and four times in the same week,’’ says the bespectacled director. “I’ve worked as sincerely on this film as I usually do. It is the blessings of God, my elders, my friends and my well-wishers that Ajab… took a flying start.’’ All trade quarters confirm that APKGK has come like a breath of fresh air, infusing life into the near wilting box office figures of 2009. Now, all the peppy numbers of this film can be enjoyed by tuning into Radio Mirchi.
While Katrina who is on a roll (she had another hit in New York this June) is glad that people are liking her film, leading man Ranbir who is the next big thing, equally modestly says, “Ajab… is my first super-hit. I’m really thankful to the audience and to everyone else who has helped make this film what it is. I don’t know how to react to the film being called a superhit. And I have no idea what else to say except a big thank-you.’’ Post his critical acclaim in Karan Johar’s Wake Up Sid and now APKGK, the Kapoor scion who is knocking furiously on the doors of the Bollywood reigning biggies adds, “I will continue to work hard on each of my films, but I guess now there will more money available to my filmmakers to make the films in the way they want to.’’
Of course, no success story is complete without the verdict from the grass-root level. Brijesh Tandon, a leading distributor-exhibitor from Delhi-UP says, “The Ranbir-Kat jodi is easily the best pair of the season. Their Kaise Batayein Hum Kis Tarah song shot in Turkey has a lilting quality that the audience is freaking out on on.’’ APKGK is like the unseasonal rain that hit many parts of the country. And yes, sometimes when it rains, it pours.

Ajay, Sanjay, Fardeen, Bipasha and Mugdha launch their film’s music at Siddhivinayak Temple

SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; September 6, 2009)

What better place to have the music launch of a film then at the feet of Lord Ganesh and that too, during the auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi week. Actor-producer Ajay Devgn along with the entire cast — Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse — of his upcoming film All The Best – Fun Begins, did just that. Early on Friday morning, they drove down to Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi to seek Ganpati’s blessings and launch their film’s music even as the pujaris recited mantras and performed the aarti to appease Ganesha.

Since all the stars share an interesting camaraderie, it wasn’t much of a trouble for Ajay to get them to come into town. The actor picked up Fardeen from his Juhu residence and went straight to Sanjay’s place in Bandra where Bipasha and Mugdha
were already waiting. They then drove to the temple. There have been instances of producers and actors making the rounds of temples to seek blessings during the release of their films, but a music launch is definitely a first. Pritam has created some rocking numbers for this comic caper including five songs and two remixes.

Produced by Ajay Devgn Films and directed by Rohit Shetty, All The Best – Fun Begins is a rib-tickling com
edy resulting from mistaken identities and hilarious goof-ups. And for this film, Ajay’s leaving no stone unturned. It’s due to release on October 16 and thus this Diwali, the Gods will be smiling down on him.

Radio Mirchi, too, joined Ajay and Bipasha in celebrating the music launch of the film. The stars launched it first on Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. Tune in today to catch the hottest tracks from the film.
