De Dana Dan The inevitable has happened. Owing to popular demand, ‘Gale Lag Ja‘ – the rain song and dance number featuring the lead pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif – has been added to the film’s narrative.

Though this much hyped song had created quite some buzz en route to the release of De Dana Dan, it was chopped off from the final copy of the print since it was adding to the film’s length. However, the makers of De Dana Dan were open to the idea of incorporating the song as an added bonus if audiences demanded so and the film worked at the box office. With weekend collections being quite strong worldwide, the final call was taken around bringing back the song in the narrative.

Confirms Ratan Jain, producer of De Dana Dan, “We were clear that the song would be added only if the film did well at the box office. There was no point doing that if (God forbid) people wouldn’t have been going into theatres. Now that the weekend collections are out, we know that there would be repeat audiences for the film. For them, it would be another incentive to watch the film again while for the first timers, it’s an added bonus.”

Since the film’s running length is a little less than 3 hours already, would the incorporation of song be of any further impact?

“No”, says Jain, “The length of De Dana Dan is still the same. To compensate for those 4-5 minutes of the added song, we have edited an equal duration of a few scenes from the film.”

Gale Lag Ja‘ would now appear in the first half of the film at the point when Akshay calls Katrina to the hotel in order to share the kidnapping plan and then run away with the ransom amount.

Meanwhile, Ratan Jain is ecstatic with the kind of collections that the film is showing with every passing day.

“Saturday and Sunday were far better than Friday while Monday was more or less similar to Friday, which is superb”, he says, “Normally, films fall quite rapidly on Monday but we have stayed on very stable grounds. The collections are superb overseas as well, whether in UK, Gulf or elsewhere. In India, we have seen Rs. 23 crores coming in just from the weekend which is superb. All our distributors are very happy and we are all set for a bountiful first week.”

Akshay Kumar clears the air about why it’s okay for Farah Khan to sign him and not her favourite actor Shah Rukh Khan for Tees Maar Khan

By Subhash K Jha (MMUBAI MIRROR; November 23, 2009)

A lot of eyebrows have been raised as to why Akshay Kumar and not Farah Khan’s favourite actor Shah Rukh Khan has been signed for her next directorial venture, Tees Maar Khan.

Reacting to rumours of having taken over from Shah Rukh Khan in Farah’s cinema, Akshay says, “Yes, I am doing Tees Maar Khan. I have known Farah and her husband Shirish Kunder for years. I have worked with her husband in his first film, Jaan-E-Mann and with her brother Sajid Khan twice, (Heyy Babyy in 2007 and yet-to-be-released Housefull). So Farah and I are very close. There’s nothing so shocking about me doing her film. We make 180 films and there are just 10 heroes. Every hero has enough work.”

Akshay admits that he’s playing a character called Khan in Tees Maar Khan. “But you’ll have to ask Farah whether the film was written for Shah Rukh. I play a con-man, a real smart-ass. Tees Maar Khan will be an out-and-out commercial film. Shirish has written the film. He had directed me in Jaan-E-Mann, a film I liked even though it didn’t click. As soon as I complete Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha, I start with Tees Maar Khan,” he adds.

Tees Maar Khan starts in March 2010.

Everyone is talking about the passionate rain song in De Dana Dan and the erotic chemistry between Akshay and Katrina and how similar it looks to Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s rain song in 3 Idiots. “I’ve seen Aamir’s rain song. It’s beautiful. I think Aamir and Kareena make a really good pair. I had high fever when we shot the rain song. So what is being seen as passion is actually pain. Honestly, I couldn’t believe how romantic Katrina and I looked together.  This isn’t a typically romantic film. We don’t sing and walk into the sunset. I am crazy about Katrina in De Dana Dan. But I don’t have the money to impress and win her. In real life, I would never take to crime to win a girl. In this film I do, but it’s a goofy crime.”

Akshay is determined to cut down on his assignments next year. “That’s okay. There are so many new promising heroes such as Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. At the moment I’m producing Khatta Meetha. Hopefully that and Housefull will release next year,” he says.

Who says time changes everything? Ask Akshay Kumar, who has stuck to his quintessential style of acting and looks just as fit and dishy as he did 15 years ago.

If anything, he has only gotten younger as time has passed by. Even the surroundings have not changed for Akshay. The sizzling rainy atmosphere, the sexy flame orange saris, a macho man caressing his woman…it’s all the same. For instance, take a closer look at these two pictures- Akshay and Raveena set everybody’s pulse racing while singing and dancing together in the rain to Tip tip barsa paani in Mohra (1994) and now, he will again set the screen on fire with Katrina Kaif in the soon-to-be-released De Dana Dan. Some things never change. And if they do, they only get better with time. Right, Akki?

Here’s an exclusive report on the Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor rain song, Zoobi doobi straight from the sets of 3 Idiots

Kareena Kapoor, Aamir Khan and Raju Hirani on the sets of 3 Idiots

Now that Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor are starring together in Raju Hirani’s 3 Idiots, after two misses (Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Mr Singh & Mrs Mehta) there is a considerable amount of curiosity about this never-seen-before jodi. We dropped in on the sets at Film City on Thursday to watch the two sizzle in the only romantic song, Zoobi doobi, in the film.

Entering the sets wasn’t an easy task because of the tight security. This despite the fact that we had taken the requisite permission on Wednesday to visit the sets. Thankfully, Aamir Khan spotted us after which going on the sets was a cakewalk.

Sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, the rain song has been composed by Shantanu Moitra. Aamir Khan, dressed in a burnt orange shirt and white trousers, was completely wet and gladly showed off his super flat abs. Kareena too wore a similar coloured sari and looked effortlessly stunning. The two actors dancing in the (artificial) rain reminded one of the Raj Kapoor-Nargis Awara song, Pyaar hua ikraar hua.

Choreographer Bosco was busy instructing all the dancers in the background. Aamir and Kareena were explained a shot, which was being filmed from a high angle. Raju Hirani sat by the monitor, closely watching the visuals. As soon as the shot was okayed, Aamir and Kareena rushed to check the scene in the monitor after which Aamir got busy with his Rubik cube. He told us that when he was in college, he could solve it in 27 seconds flat, but now he takes a minute to get it right. Surprisingly, he claimed that he could solve the Rubik cube without even seeing it, which he did, in exactly one minute. Aamir also said that he has quit smoking for over six months as he wanted to look fresh and young in the film.
