Raveena Tandon to play Rahul Mahajan’s sister and help him pick a bride

By Zenith Sahai (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 15, 2009)

Rahul Mahajan goes looking for a bride on Rahul Dulhaniya Le Layenge, and also ends up with a sister. Raveena Tandon will perform the role of the didi, which is a pity for that’s the last role any man would imagine the gorgeous actress in.

Raveena is being paid a whopping figure to lend her moral support to Rahul Mahajan and his quest for the perfect bride.

The TV channel has been negotiating with Raveena for a day’s shoot and to promote the show. Ravi Kisen, who played Rakhi Sawant’s brother, ended up hosting another show on the channel, Raaz Pichle Janam Ka. Reliable sources from the channel say that Raveena has been offered a bomb to appear in an episode as Rahul’s sister and select a girl for her ‘brother’.

Raveena, who was seen as a judge on two children shows earlier, is also making an appearance as a judge on another channel. For the current offer, her answer simply depends on the moolah: up the offer by five lakhs and she will be the world’s best sister.

“Raveena has asked for a whopping Rs 30 lakh and the channel is offering her Rs 25 lakh for the episode,” says a source. “She normally charges around Rs 8 lakh an episode if it is a running show.”

Confirming the development, Shailaja Kejriwal, EVP Content of the channel says, “Talks are on with her at the moment.  But it has not been confirmed as yet.”

And if she has her way, she would be the highest paid actress on TV. Incidentally, Bipasha Basu who is going to be seen on a show produced by Red Chillies, has also asked for a similar amount and is being paid less than what she has asked for. “No, the amount you mention is rubbish,” says Kejriwal.

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 19, 2009)

A picture speaks a thousand words. Going by these, which were clicked yesterday, superstars Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan have forgotten all their differences about who is the No 1 star in Bollywood. Yesterday, they were seen together at Film City where Akshay was shooting for Blue while SRK was shooting an ad film.

Interestingly, it was SRK who took the initiative to meet Akshay by suddenly landing up on the sets of Blue. Akshay, of course, was pleasantly surprised by this unexpected visit from SRK.

A source present on the sets of the film said, “SRK walked in on the sets of Blue yesterday afternoon to meet Akshay. SRK was shooting nearby on floor no 12 for an ad film when he heard that Akshay was shooting on floor no 1 for Blue. There were some media persons who were present on the sets of Blue.

They were surprised to suddenly see SRK on the sets of Akshay’s film. As soon as he heard about SRK’s visit, Akshay came out of his vanity van to greet him. Their body language was very friendly.

The two stars chatted inside the vanity van for 20 minutes. They have been discussing the possibility of a joint venture. Earlier too they had discussed the possibility of doing a film together at Preity Zinta’s birthday party. Now they have taken their discussion a step ahead. The film will be jointly produced by SRK’s production company Red Chillies and Akshay’s Hari Om Productions.”

According to the source, both are keen to make a film together and they will be meeting again soon to take things further. “Akshay and SRK know that it will be nothing short of a dream cast if they are seen together in a film made by them,” said the source.

Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar finalise distribution deal worth Rs 98 crore with Fox for My Name Is Khan

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 06, 2009)

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan

This was supposed to be Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s latest best-kept secret. While they will be having a press conference today to announce their deal with Fox for their next film, My Name Is Khan, the two dosts had planned to keep the amount of the deal a secret. We’ll let the cat out of the bag. The two have inked a deal worth Rs 98 crore with Fox for the film. This is one of the biggest deals in the history of Bollywood and both SRK and Karan, who are co-producing the film, are very excited.

A source said, “Till a few years ago, Yash Raj Films always distributed Karan’s films. Then, Karan got UTV Motion Pictures to distribute two of his forthcoming films, Wake Up Sid and Kurbaan. Now, Karan and SRK’s Red Chillies have gone a step further by finalising this ambitious deal with Fox, which will be announced today afternoon at a press conference. After Slumdog Millionaire, this will be the second big Bollywood film, which is being distributed by Fox.”

There have been various reports about the deal being worth Rs 120 crore. Fact is that it’s a Rs 98 crore deal. According to sources, several unique marketing strategies are also being planned to create a buzz around the film.

Karan Johar said, “At the press conference (today) we are not going to discuss the commercial terms of the My Name Is Khan deal. The financial terms of this deal is an internal matter between Red Chillies, Dharma Productions and Fox. In any case, the figure is nothing close to what is being reported everywhere (120 crores). What we will discuss at the press conference is strategy. This is the first time such a deal has been inked, where the film will release beyond the mainstream diaspora and that is exciting.”

My Name Is Khan stars Shah Rukh and Kajol and will release early next year.

Given the moody economy, Anubhav Sindha’s Ra1 loses out to the more successful director Farah Khan’s Happy New Year in terms of priority
By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 30, 2009)

In times of recession, Eros International is hedging its bets on a money making director — Farah Khan, rather than bank on Anubhav Sinha. Farah’s successful track record has put the brakes on Anubhav’s Ra 1 temporarily. She will begin shooting her film Happy New Year ahead of schedule, while Ra 1 has been pushed from September to next year.

A few days ago, we told you how Farah Khan had to rush with the script of the first half of Happy New Year to San Francisco where Shah Rukh is shooting currently. It was a known fact that Farah was supposed to start her film only early next year. We hear, Eros International insisted that Farah’s film should start this year, by the end of November.

Ra 1 is being presented by Eros International and produced by Red Chillies.  It was slated to go on the floors before Farah’s film, “That’s true,” says the source, “But when Eros studied the project Ra 1, they felt that this film may not derive sufficient returns in today’s economy. They felt that it would be better if the commercial director Farah Khan put her project on the floors first. They wanted to back that first and wait for things to improve on the economy front. They will go with Ra 1 but only at a later date.”

Mumbai Mirror had also reported on June 27 that Shah Rukh has been advised not to indulge in heavy-duty action. This, combined with Farah’s track record, has come in the way of Anubhav Sinha’s film.

Despite repeated calls and text messages, Eros International CEO Sunil Lulla remained unavailable for comment.

Happy New Year stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The remaining cast is yet to be finalised. Farah also has to complete the script of the second half of the film.
