Dara Singh is both amused and horrified to see Vindoo become a weepy person on Bigg Boss 3. Though his son is the frontrunner for the reality show’s prize in the finale tomorrow, his drastic behaviour is worrying the father.

Dara Singh and Vindoo Dara Singh

Beyond limits

“I am shocked to see this side of him,” says the Rustom-e-Hind. “He has become extra sensitive in the house. Vindoo is an emotional man no doubt but he has gone beyond limits. I don’t think he is missing his family and resorting to all this. He was keen to be part of the show. Guess the situation has made him kuch zyada hi.”

Singh Sr catches up on the antics of his son every night. People ask him: Pahalwan ka beta hoke bhi rota hai?

“When tears roll down his cheeks and Vindoo keeps wiping them away, I keep chuckling.”

About the housemates telling him to create his identity and not latch on to his father’s name, he says, “Vindoo has always been known as Vindoo Dara Singh. He prefers it this way. He has been telling the others, too, to write their names like that. Many people like to show others in bad light. Neecha dikhane me aur ilzaam lagane mein…some love to do this to others — to each his own.”

Dara Singh’s last B-Town outing was Jab We Met. “I lead a retired life and if there are some dada and nana roles that come my way and I like them, I am game.”

He’s looking forward to the show’s finale tomorrow night. “If an invitation comes along, I don’t mind going to Khandala for the show,” he says. And the first thing that he will tell Vindoo on meeting him is: “Tu itna kyu roya?”

Who Knew?
Vindoo has a brother Amrik who is based in Chandigarh and runs a film studio.

Why Gauhar Khan is opening up way after Rocket Singh’s release

All this while, Gauhar Khan preferred to remain mum about Rocket Singh and the buzz about her so-called ‘cold war’ with Shazahn Padamsee who also features in the film.

“I was under contract with Yash Raj not to speak till the film releases. I wanted to respect it even though others may not have,” says the model-turned-actress. “I did not want to have any bad vibes around nor upset anyone. I only wanted my performance to do the talking which I am glad it did.”

At a private screening she received compliments from Yash Chopra as well as her co-star Ranbir Kapoor’s parents Rishi and Neetu Singh. “They telling me that I had done well in the film was huge for me. I was so jittery but the response has been overwhelming.”

She states that after the screening, she went up to Shazahn and wished her luck for her first film. “I don’t even know Shazahn and we didn’t share screen space. Nor were there any film-related events that we would be together. So I really don’t know where all this crept up? Guess this is what happens when there is a PR machinery at work.”

At the moment, it’s only acting for her. “The fashion world and ramp is out for me now. I only want to concentrate on movies.”

She was picked up for Rocket Singh during her television outing Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa. Most viewers would remember her as an extremely emotional contestant who cried often. “But that’s how I am, even off-screen. I always get emotional. I cried even after Rocket Singh’s screening!” she says.

Sushmita Sen and Kangna Ranaut will attempt to be just that for a song called Shakira Jaisi…

Hips Don’t Lie — ask Sushmita Sen and Kangna Ranaut. The stars are learning to shake their kamariyas like the Colombian singer who can wriggle her hips and more effortlessly.

The actresses are presently shooting for a song sequence for Anees Bazmee’s No Problem (it’s not a sequel to No Entry!). Music composer Pritam has composed a trademark Punjabi hip track that goes Shakira Jaisi Hile Lakhni…

Sush and Kangs, who play sisters in the flick, have been matching steps to Chinni Prakash’s choreography.
The two actresses will be making their moves in six yards. While Sushmita has draped herself in an Abu Jani sari worth Rs 4 lakh, Kangna settled for a Suneet Varma creation which costs Rs 3.5 lakh.

The song is being shot at the Filmistan Studios. Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor who feature in the film are also in the song that has been penned by lyricist Kumar (of Maa Ka Ladla fame).

Produced by Anil Kapoor, Rajat Rawail and Spice International, No Problem is slated to release in the third quarter of 2010.

Says Rawail, “We have been shooting for this track from Tuesday. Pritam has scored an extremely peppy song that tells them to shake like Shakira! It is a celebration song as Kangna is getting engaged to Akshaye in the film. The dance unfolds in their father Shakti Kapoor’s home — he plays the police commissioner.”

After a long schedule in South Africa, Bazmee has started the Mumbai leg of the film’s shoot. From next week, they will be shooting at various parts of south Mumbai.

H-twon in a sari
While you may have to wait a while to see Shakira in a sari (the outfit she wore during a Farah Khan choreographed performance at an awards show — seen alongside — doesn’t count as one), here are a list of Hollywood actresses who draped up.
Helen Mirren (at an awards show)
Katherine Heigl (in 27 Dresses)
The Pussycat Dolls (at an event)
Cameron Diaz (at a photoshoot)
Elizabeth Hurley (at an event)

Dhamaal 2 has hit a roadblock. Though the bound script of the comedy is ready, the film can’t go on the floors.

Producers Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar (also the director) have been denied remake rights of Disney’s 1993 Hollywood flick Cool Runnings on which Dhamaal 2 is based.

The duo was confident of obtaining the rights to make an Indian version of the comic caper. As a result, they had their team of writers in place before the necessary remake green signal.

A still from Dhamaal

Familiar procedure

Says a source, “They were sure of the go-ahead from Walt Disney. For their earlier film Daddy Cool, Thakeria had managed to secure the rights for Boney M’s popular song of the ’80s Daddy Cool. As they had gone through the paperwork and technicalities involved, they thought it was a familiar procedure.”

But much to their chagrin, Disney turned down their request. Adds the source, “This has now put Dhamaal 2 off track. For the past several months, a team of writers would be in their Maruti Internatioanl production office at Andheri working on the script. And just when it was complete and ready, they were shown a red signal which came as a jolt to them.”

The makers are in a fix because they can’t go ahead with the same plot as it would lead to copyright issues. As the source puts it, “Now that they have openly declared that they wanted to make an Indian version of it and have been denied, there is no way they can make anything similar to it. All the past months of efforts of the writers are wasted.”

Indra Kumar however maintains, “The scripting of Dhamaal 2 is still on. The sequel has not gone on the floors because the script is not ready. Our film is a comedy but not based on any Hollywood film nor did we seek any remake rights. These are just stories that people are floating.”

Dhamaal, which released in 2007 stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Aashish Chaudhry and Jaaved Jaffrey. Most of the cast had agreed to star in the sequel as well.

Cool Runnings
Cool Runnings is a 1993 comedy flick loosely based on the Jamaica national bobsled team’s debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, it stars Leon Robinson, Doug E Dour, Maik Yoba, Rawle D’ Lewis and John Candy. When the team fails to acquire the points necessary to get to the summer games, there’s still a way for them to make it to the Winter Olympics. A wacky coach trains the the squad to make for the weirdest team but no one’s more fun at the Winter Games!

Rajkumar Hiran

Tied up with the post-production of 3 Idiots, Rajkumar Hirani is juggling several tasks in his quest to make that perfect film with lots of help from the cast. It is the Munnabhai series director’s third project and he is aware that comparisons are inevitable. He remains unfazed as he believes that any film he makes should satisfy himself and the audience should love it. As Hirani prepares to unveil a new set of promos of 3 Idiots we ask him…

There are some unique buttock chairs for the 3 Idiots in the new promos?
I had them specially made. Several years ago, I had seen a snapshot of similar looking stuff and it remained etched in my memory. Now I felt it went well with the 3 Idiots of the film. This sequence is part of the song. We will be keeping these chairs at select cinema halls as well the chairs of the Idiots!

Why have you stuck to the same production house (Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions) for all your projects?
You don’t go casting production houses. Moreover the colour of the money is the same everywhere, isn’it?

How easy or difficult was it to make 3 Idiots compared to Munnabhai?
This was the easiest film for me to make. Everyone in the unit was so eager and co-operative. We rehearsed before the shoot. I like to work that way.

On dealing with Aamir the Mr Perfectionist and Mr Interfering.
Thank God for that! There can all be kinds of buzz about Aamir but it is a delight to work with people who go beyond. I have always encouraged opinions from the cast and crew.

You have Aamir Khan as a college student?
The movie moves in two time spans. The fact that I was going to show Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi as college students was the least of my worries. In the movie, Aamir looks the youngest; he has the ability to get into the character. Seeing is believing. My bigger worry was how to make everyone love the film.

R Madhavan, Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi in 3 Idiots

Were you part of the feedback trials that Aamir held for friends and family?

Yes. Everyone desires to make the perfect film. So it is all for the betterment of the film. I love to hear feedbacks and then we go by the majority voice even if it involves making changes.

You made Kareena gain weight for the film?
My brief to the actors was to lose as much weight as possible while to the actress it was to gain the kilos. That is my style of working. Most would work the other way round. Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman had to lose it, while Kareena had to pile it on. She has a deglam, simple look in the film.

Was Kajol initially to feature in the film?
I don’t know where that buzz started from.

So finally, is 3 Idiots Five Point Someone or not at all?
Chetan Bhagat had sent across his book Five Point Someone to me. I guess he had it in his mind that it could be made into a movie. After going through it I called him up and told him that it was possible. A book is anecdotal but when you make a film it needs a plot. When I started working on the script, lots of thoughts cropped up. Yes, the movie is completely different from the book. But then if Chetan had not sent the book, I would not have made 3 Idiots. He has seen the script but not the film yet.

UTV gayab from Main Aurr Mrs Khanna ads

The ads of Salman-Kareena starrer Main Aurr Mrs Khanna in newspapers, over the last three days, feature only Sohail Khan Productions without the mention of its co-producer UTV.

The disappearance of UTV’s name or of producer Ronnie Screwvala a week before its release has led to speculation about relations between the two companies.

“Sohail is miffed by UTV’s style of functioning, and this is his way of showing his displeasure,” a source said.

Earlier this week, Sohail and the UTV team had a showdown over monetary issues, according to the source.

Coming soon: The film stars Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor and releases on October 16

“Sohail had struck a deal for two films Kissan and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna with UTV. Due to Kissan’s thanda box-office release, UTV cut down the earlier deal of Rs 51 crore to Rs 31 crore.

But after  Wanted became a huge draw, Sohail asked for Rs 41 crore, which they refused. This irked Sohail and he had a fight with Ronnie,” the source added.

Sohail said, “There was no fight. Ronnie and I are good friends.” But the source insisted, “The reason Sohail is being diplomatic and denying the fight is because he is awaiting payments from UTV.

Once he obtains his monies, only then will he reveal the truth.” Director Prem Soni said, “Keep me out of this. Speak to the producers.”

The Other Side

UTV sources said, “UTV’s name was dropped at the behest of their auditors. UTV is in the midst of shifting offices from Mauritius, due to which there has been a lack of proper communication.”

Mumbai:Ayesha Takia’s sibling Natasha is Bollywood bound. Like her elder sister, she too wants to be part of the film industry. The youngster has already begun the process of grooming herself to be an actress.

Says a source, “Though Natasha harboured aspirations of acting as well, she did not pursue it seriously. But after Ayesha’s marriage, she became more focussed and made up her mind.”

Her mother Faridah confirms, “Yes, Natasha is keen to be an actress as well. I have no reservations about it. Like Ayesha, I want her too to make a unique mark for herself. At the moment, she hasn’t signed any project but in the next six months, she will be ready. We are having her portfolio shot. She has already started attending dance classes.”

With Ayesha keen to help hubby Farhan Azmi in his hotel business as well as launch her line of clothing, Natasha now feels that she can step into her elder sister’s shoes.

Adds the source, “Natasha has lost a lot of weight and is keen to make it in B-Town. Her mom and sis have been telling her the hows and whys of the industry.”

Like Ayesha, Natasha too studied at St Anthony’s School. Interestingly, she has 18 piercings all over her body. But her mother says, “They have all gone now. That was done when she was 15 years old. As she wants to be an actress, she has removed them all. That was all part of her younger days.”
