Raj Kundra to take his as well as Shilpa’s family for a Mediterranean cruise

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 27, 2009)

Celebrations are far from over in the Kundra household. After the elaborate wedding ceremonies and parties, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra have exciting holiday plans even after their honeymoon.

Soon after the newly-weds are back from their honeymoon, Raj will take his as well as Shilpa’s family for a Mediterranean cruise.

Shilpa says, “Raj and I are going to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. Once we return, Raj will be taking our entire family, all the Shettys and the Kundras, on a Christmas Mediterranean cruise. He thinks that everyone needs a break.”

When asked about dividing her time between Mumbai and London, Shilpa says, “Why are people presuming that I am moving to London? I’ll have two homes now and will be traveling to and fro.”

The couple left for Tirupathi yesterday to seek divine blessings.

THE BARAATIS: Ajay Devgn, Lara Dutta, Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 25, 2009)

In the season for ostentatious Bollywood weddings the only talk around showbiz right now is who is spending how much on what.

It is estimated that the Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra affair will reportedly cost the Kundras something to the tune of Rs 5 crore, with the bride’s jewellery alone being valued at Rs 3 crore. But the mother of all B-town weddings this season is the wedding of Pankti Mehta, the marketing head of Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, where the budget will reportedly surpass the Kundras. Soft-spoken Pankti is the sister of filmmaker Dhillin Mehta who produced Jab We Met and Blue, and she is marrying a US citizen, Jimeet Sanghavi.

A-league actors — Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and a dozen others are expected to attend the wedding reception on December 5, at one of Mumbai’s fivestar venues. The wedding card itself is as thick as a photo album and has nine attachments inviting film folk to the various functions.

Note: There is a Pritam night, a Falguni Pathak night, a qawaali night, a sangeet affair and besides regular functions like mehndi and shaadi, there is also a cricket match between the Mehtas and the Sanghvis. Reports say that this is the most opulent Bollywood wedding in recent times and a top star
says, “A film can be financed with the wedding budget.’’ But for the Mehtas, this is something they always wanted for the apple of their eye.
Brass band wallahs at the Shilpa-Raj wedding on Sunday were promptly asked to stop the music just as they started playing Shilpa’s former love Akshay Kumar’s songs

Shilpa Shetty might not have invited her ex-boyfriend Akshay Kumar for her wedding on Sunday at Lonavla, but the brass band, which was invited to play just a few minutes before her pheras, had certainly not forgotten her earlier close association with Akshay.

At around 3 pm, the bandwallahs started some popular Bollywood music by first playing a song from the Akshay Kumar-Shilpa Shetty starrer Dhadkan outside Kiran Bawa’s bungalow, which was the wedding venue. They had hardly played for a minute, when a few people (obviously instructed by the Shetty and Kundra family) came running out of the bungalow and asked them to immediately stop the band music.

An eyewitness says, “The band members were shocked and were wondering what went wrong. They looked quizzically at the people who were ordering them to stop the music of Dhadkan but all that they got in return were harsh glares. At this point they were categorically told, ‘Akshay ki film ka gaana mat bajao’.”

After that, the band members were sternly instructed by those who had told them to stop the music, to stand aside and not play until further orders. They were also told that they would have to thereafter run the list of songs they would be playing all evening, past them. The dejected band stood aside just a few metres away.

“They started playing a fresh batch of songs only around 5 pm, and this time, of course, they didn’t have any Akshay song on their list,” says the eyewitness.

“It was quite a hilarious situation. Imagine the crestfallen band on one side and the livid guys who came running out from the bungalow. We wonder what was going on in Shilpa and Raj’s mind at that moment when this incident happened,” adds the eyewitness.

Ranbir Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Deepika Padukone will feature in the new version of Mile sur mera tumhara. Amitabh Bachchan will be common to both

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 17, 2009)

Remember the song, Mile sur mera tumhara – the song on national integration that used to be aired on television in 1988?

Ad filmmaker Kailash Surendranath and his wife Aarti had produced the video, featuring stalwarts from the world of acting, singing and sports. Now, an updated version of the song with new artistes is being shot by the same producers in different parts of India.

Interestingly, Ranbir was chosen to participate in the freshly conceived, designed and executed version of the music video as the new youth icon. Ranbir shot for the video at Film City and Yash Raj Studios on Sunday. And, Amitabh Bachchan is the only artiste from the earlier music video to feature in the new version.

Shilpa Shetty, Ranbir Kapoor & Deepika Padukone

When we asked Bachchan about the honour of being the only artiste to feature in both the versions of the song, he replied, “I have not only participated in the new Mile sur mera tumhara, but have also sung a part of the original composition (composed by Louis Banks and P Vaidyanathan). We shot my portion of the song at the Taj hotel.”

Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have also shot for the song.

Shilpa Shetty and Deepika Padukone are the other celebrities from the entertainment sector to be featured. Commenting about the song, Deepika said, “My dad was part of the first one. Now I am in the second.”

Talking about the project, Aarti said, “At the moment we want to keep it really quiet until we finish the project.”

Shilpa’s sangeet ceremony on November 21 in Khandala will celebrate the fact that she is a Bunt and is marrying Raj, a lively Punjabi

By Sonali Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 10, 2009)

Now that she is engaged and the wedding date has been finalised, Shilpa Shetty is gearing up for her sangeet ceremony in Khandala. Shilpa will do all the requisite jhatkas-matkas while dancing to some of her most popular Bollywood songs with fiancé Raj Kundra at their sangeet.

Preparations are on in full swing and choreographer Ganesh Hegde will see to it that everybody’s dance moves are perfect at the sangeet on November 21, a day before the wedding. The couple’s family members and close friends will also be performing.

Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty

Giving us all the details, Ganesh says, “The sangeet is not a professional thing for me. I am related to Shilpa. We are keeping this as personal as possible and haven’t involved any professional dancers. We’re planning something cute where all the family members pay tribute to each other. Raj’s younger brother is extremely enthusiastic about it. Raj’s family members will be coming down from London.”

Commenting on the sangeet’s theme, Ganesh adds, “There’s no singular theme, but yes, we will explore and celebrate that Shilpa, who is from a South Indian (Bunt) family, is marrying Raj, who is a Punjabi. We’ll have a good mix of South Indian and Punjabi style dance and music.”

About Shilpa and Raj’s special number, Ganesh says, “They will be dancing together on a lovely romantic number. We haven’t finalised the song yet but it will definitely be one of Shilpa’s own numbers. Apart from Shilpa’s own songs, there will be some high-tempo numbers too. The guests won’t dress in special costumes for their performances as they will anyway be dressed in their finery.”

Ganesh Hegde

Is there a special bit about the ceremony that will be a surprise for the couple, we ask Ganesh. “Not really,” he says. “We all will be rehearsing together so planning a surprise will be difficult… Shilpa is aware and very much part of everything we have planned. We will start the rehearsals very soon.”

We’re announcing the Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra wedding… but not giving out the invites .

It’s on November 22, at Shilpa’s friend and business partner Kiran Bawa’s bungalow in Khandala, a quiet and private affair preceded by sangeet and mehendi at which the guest list would be restricted to just close friends and family. But, whether family will include sister and bridesmaid Shamita Shetty is not known.

The Shetty sibling is locked up in the Big Boss house with other not-so-famous and out-of-work characters and is unaware of the developments in her sister’s life. Shilpa, who hosted the same reality show in an earlier season, is naturally keen to get Shamita out for the wedding. But the question arises whether the producers will allow Shamita to attend the wedding and get back to the house… or whether Shamita will deviously engineer her ouster and, after the wedding, seek re-entry on a wild card.

Meanwhile, more on the wedding: The sangeet and mehendi will be Punjabi style and the saat pheras, South Indian. And Bollywood’s bold and beautiful need not slyly ask each other, “Aati kya Khandala?” because Shilpa’s not inviting anybody from the industry over. For them, there is going to be a lavish reception in Mumbai on November 24. Gatecrashers beware!

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra will tie the knot on November 22. The shaadi will take place in the afternoon at Shilpa’s friend-cum-business partner Kiran Bawa’s bungalow in Khandala.

Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty

Our source reveals, “The marriage will be in the typical Punjabi style, with Raj bringing in the baraat in a chariot. The marriage will be followed by a grand reception in Mumbai on Nov 24.”

Confirming the news, Kiran says, “I’m in Montreal right now, but I’m coming back soon. I believe Tarun Tahiliani is designing the lehenga which Shilpa will wear during her pheras. We’re decorating my Khandala place too. Shilpa and I go back a long way, we’ve known each other since 17 years. Her mother (Sunanda), ties a rakhi to my father. We’re very happy and looking forward to the occasion.”

Will sister Shamita Shetty remain trapped in the Bigg Boss house and miss the wedding, we wonder.
