Shirish Kunder’s Joker, which was to star Shah Rukh Khan, will now be made with John Abraham in the lead

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 19, 2009)

Recently, Shirish Kunder announced the three films that he and his wife Farah Khan were working on. Tees Mar Khan with Akshay Kumar and Alien Sahib with John Abraham are two .Joker is the third one that the couple will make. The script of the film was written with Shah Rukh Khan in mind.

But since he refused to do the film, Shirish has now offered the role to his new good friend John Abraham, who also stars in Alien Sahib.

A source close to Shirish said, “Joker is very close to Shirish. He spoke to John about it a few days ago. John loved the role and has given his consent to do the film. The film requires immense pre-production work, which is in process now.” The film will have lots of special effects and will be a visual delight.

There will be two leading ladies opposite John in Joker. “One of them will play a positive role, while the other will be a grey character. And both of them fall for John. So, it is a love triangle,” our source added.

Shah Rukh was also to produce the film but things didn’t work out. The film will now be produced by Shirish and Farah’s banner, Three’s Company.

Everyone thought 3 IDIOTS was the final release of 2009. Sure, the film is the final biggie to hit the screens on 25th December, but three more films – all medium-budget fares – are lined up for release in the subsequent week.

In view of the fact that the first week of new year is considered jinxed by industry people and producers refrain from releasing films in the first week, three independent producers have decided to release the film on Thursday, 31st December, which makes these three the final releases of 2009.

As things stand today, the three films, RAAT GAYI, BAAT GAYI?, BOLO RAAM and ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD, have been confirmed for release on 31st December. The question is, will they stick to that date? And if they do, how will the audience react to them given the fact that its celebration time across the globe? Let’s wait and watch!

MAKING HER DREAMS COME TRUE: Esha Deol and (right) Hema Malini
She’s gifted her daughter three films on her birthday today

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; November 2, 2009)

The legendary actress is making not one, but three films for her daughter who has turned a year older today. To say that Hema Malini is crazy about her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol is an understatement. The doting mother has decided that on the occasion of Esha’s birthday today, she will host the mahurat of her film Tell Me Oh Khuda in which Esha teams up with Arjan Bajwa (Fashion) and Chandan Roy Saniyal (Kaminey). The film being directed by Mayur Puri (an associate on Dhoom) has an ensemble cast headed by Rishi Kapoor and a Turkish actress and it will go on the floors today. Hot shot music director Pritam, too, has agreed to give the score. An excited Hema said, “I guess this is the best birthday gift I could give Esha.” Flashing her million-dollar smile, the yesteryear dream girl said, “I’m not unduly ambitious for my daughters. I just want both Esha and Ahana to be happy and settled in their lives. But as a mother, I feel Esha hasn’t got her due and I definitely want the best for my child. Esha is young and I would like to fulfil her ambitions. I have also asked Ahana to step in and look after the production.”
So Hema’s banner, that fell silent after her directorial debut Dil Aashna Hai, is being revived in a major way. As soon she wraps up Tell Me Oh Khuda being shot by four world-class cinematographers in Turkey, Goa, Mumbai and Rajasthan, Hema and Esha will start work on their next film to be directed by Deepa Sahi.
Hema clarifies that Tell Me Oh Khuda is not a copy of Meryl Streep’s Mamma Mia. “It has four different stories with a common link line… but it is not even remotely connected to Mamma Mia. In fact, as yet I haven’t even got a role in Tell me… For the moment, I’m only involved as a producer. Honestly, how can I even think of doing Mamma Mia. I’m not in the same league as Meryl Streep,” she said very modestly.
The danseuse-actress however adds that the third film that she will make for Esha could be a musical because both of them are artistically inclined. “I may consider the possibility of making a film that involves dancing-singing in the plot line,” said Hema.

Three films starring Sanjay Dutt to release simultaneously on October 16

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 04, 2009)

All The Best

This Diwali, movie aficionados will definitely have an overdose of Sanjay Dutt with three of his films releasing on the same day. Ajay Devgan’s All The Best, Ashtavinayak Cinevision’s Blue and Eros’s Aladin are scheduled to release on October 16.

Our source said, “There have been times when two films of the same actor have released at the same time. It’s probably for the first time that an actor will have three releases on the same day. But all three films are different. Blue is a 100-crore spectacular with a number of underwater stunts. All The Best is a laugh riot, while Aladin is a fantasy.”

Mumbai Mirror confirmed the news from all three producers. The official spokesperson of Eros, producer of Aladin, said, “It is true that we are releasing the film on Diwali, October 16. We don’t want to comment on other films, but we are definitely sticking to it.”

Blue

The producers don’t seem to be losing any sleep over the simultaneous releases. “We have planned a Diwali release as of now, but I am not aware of the release date of other films,” informed Rohit Shetty, director of All the Best.

Confirming the news, Ashtavinayak, producer of Blue, said, “We are aware of the other two releases, but we are surely releasing the movie on October 16. We can’t change that. We are very confident of what we have made. Blue is our biggest film till date. The films are different and we hope that all of them do well at the box-office.”

Now, it can only be hoped that the three pull in the crowd and not be the crowd.
