The Pyaar Impossible promos will focus on Priyanka Chopra’s campus bomb avatar rather than Uday Chopra’s nerdy act, after the box-office failure of Rocket Singh…

By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 18, 2009)

The failure of Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year is making producers YRF rethink the strategy of their next release, Pyaar Impossible. With Ranbir Kapoor’s nerd act in Rocket Singh… not going down well with the audience, there is a huge question mark regarding the success of Pyaar Impossible.

The film has Yash Raj scion Uday Chopra playing the consummate geek who adores the campus beauty, Priyanka Chopra from far.

With the release just a few weeks away (January 8), there’s an air of panic at the production house. One of their regular actors says, “Pyaar Impossible was designed as a vehicle for Uday. However, with nerdy heroes not doing well, everyone feels that the timid act needs to be toned down, but now it’s too late.”

Yash Raj, who had earlier thought of weaving the promos around Uday’s nerd act, has decided that it is safer to play up Priyanka’s sexy avatar instead. They are now deflecting the marketing attention from his nerd act to focus on Priyanka’s campus bomb act. Even then there’s a problem because What’s Your Raashee? proved Priyanka can’t carry a film on her shoulders.”

Pyaar Impossible

Incidentally, last year, Yash Raj’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, where Shah Rukh Khan played a nerd was a huge box-office success. Aditya Chopra was so inspired by the film’s success that the brief he gave at Yash Raj for 2009 was to go full-throttle with the saga of the underdog.

A source adds, “Pyaar Impossible is a litmus test for YRF. It was designed as a comeback vehicle for Uday. But then Rani Mukerji’s nerdy act in men’s clothes in Dil Bole Hadippa bombed. However, it was the box-office outcome of Rocket Singh where Ranbir plays the nerd with relish that has stunned YRF the most.”

When questioned about the non-viability of the underdog, Pyaar Impossible director Jugal Hansraj says that he is sure that the failure of nerdy heroes in 2009 will not adversely affect his film. “We have approached the character of the nerd in Pyaar Impossible realistically. Uday’s character has been depicted as a brilliant student at University who is socially challenged and has no friends. He plays a nerd in a subtle manner even though this is a light-hearted romantic film.”

ZARA HATKE: Aamir Khan

SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; October 27, 2009)

It’s not the first time that Aamir Khan’s going to be making an appearance on a TV show. But this time, he is opening the biggest production banner of Bollywood, Yashraj’s show. The producers who have entered the arena of television, have tapped all their loyalists including Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Uday Chopra, Tabu and Riteish Deshmukh to make an appearance on their show — which, sources say, is called Rishta.com. “But for the grand entry, they wanted their Fanaa star Aamir Khan,” informed a source close to the channel on which the show will be aired. Rishta.com, apparently, is a comedy series which will show a matrimony office through which couples meet. Wonder whether the stars will be playing matchmakers here!
Buzz has it that Aditya Chopra may direct Dhoom 3; ropes in Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan
By Vicky Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 26, 2009)

Hrithik Roshan

Shah Rukh Khan

Reclusive director Aditya Chopra, who is perfectly content to oversee and remote control the YRF empire while leaving the actual direction of the films to someone else, is now excited at the possibility of Dhoom 3, especially if his wish list of actors is satisfied.

Reportedly Shah Rukh Khan , who can never say no to Adi, has consented to be part of the film. An equally important role has been offered to Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik who is fastidious to a fault sometimes, is supposed to be mulling over the offer, even as he stays busy with his home production Kites and his new film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Guzaarish.

Abhishek Bachchan will of course reprise the Jay Dixit of the earlier two films and Uday Chopra will continue to play the lovable Ali who woos all the pretty girls.

But the icing on the very crowded cake will be that Aditya Chopra will direct the film. But, and this is a big but, only if all the said actors are in place.

But then, has anyone been known to refuse Adi? We think not.

The star had a blackout on Thursday night while at a promotional event. Her frequent bouts of ill health are worrying family and friends, but Priyanka is in no mood to slow down

Priyanka Chopra had a health scare on Thursday night when she had a dizzy spell and a brief blackout minutes after addressing the media at an event to promote Kaminey at a suburban theatre. This is the fourth time in the last few months that the actress has suffered from indifferent health sparking concern among family and friends about her pushing her body beyond endurance.

“She has been running high temperature for the last several days but refuses to slow down her crazy schedule. She came for Thursday’s event propped up by antibiotics but exhaustion took a toll. She stood tall at the media briefing only on sheer will power,” said an eye witness, “but immediately afterwards, she went out of the exit corridor and collapsed. Everybody around was most concerned.”

She has fallen ill during every film that she has worked on be it Dostana, more recently What’s Your Rashee? when Ashutosh Gowariker cancelled shooting and last week on the sets of Pyaar Impossible with Uday Chopra when she was down with viral fever. “Down with the flu or viral or some such thing that is making me miserable. Ugh! I hate being sick! Had to cancel shoot. Guilty,” she announced on Twitter.

She has been admitted to hospital at least twice for acute exhaustion and a stomach ailment, both of which are symptomatic of deeper problems. Is the race to cope with shoots, promotions, endorsements, shows, public and media appearances, and a satisfying personal life taking its toll?

Friends and family of the 26-year-old Priyanka are worried for her. Her ascent to the top of the pile has been beset with lows. There was a time when she had six flops in a row, and simultaneously her father was going through serious health issues causing Priyanka to juggle a busy work schedule with constant visits to the hospital. Thankfully today both these are behind her, her father is well and her career is blazing after Fashion and Dostana.

Nearly everyone is in a hurry these days but for actresses who always have somebody younger and thinner nipping at their toes, the rush is even more. The shelf life of heroines is constantly shrinking and their time in the sun gets smaller and smaller. In this time they have to do memorable roles, look dew-drop fresh and beautiful all the time and fit in every other avenue to make money. All this while living on fresh air and love in order to maintain those waif-like silhouettes. Is it any wonder then that long term health goals take a back-seat?

When asked, Priyanka laughed off rumours of ill-health. “I have been unwell and I am working through it,” she said.

For, Priyanka, who is a perfectionist who believes in keeping every commitment at whatever personal cost, and is restless unless she has a diary packed with things to do, this is proving to be too much. And though food is not the problem, because thanks to a high metabolism, she can pack it in, her refusal to rest and take it easy, is a cause for worry as the dizziness yesterday proves. Her now on- now off relationship with Kaminey co-star Shahid Kapoor would only add to the stress.

Even though she is now in a position where she has consolidated her success, is looked on as one of the most bankable heroines and is very much in demand for endorsements, she refuses to slow down. We hear that despite her exhaustion on Thursday, she flew overseas yesterday for three days to shoot for an endorsement and is committed to a week of hectic Kaminey promotion on her return. Ill health notwithstanding, Priyanka, we suspect, is in no mood to get off the merry-go-round.

Known for their trademark romantic films, Yash Raj Films is all set to enter the small screen with a comedy show titled Rishta.com. Although YRF is trying its best to keep the project a secret, Mumbai Mirror ferreted out that Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Ritesh Deshmukh, Tabu, Rani Mukerji, Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj and others will have cameo roles in the show. It will also feature several new faces.

A source said, “YRF is leaving no stone unturned to make a grand entry in television. They have spoken to most of the top actors, who have worked with them. While most of the actors have already agreed to make an appearance in Rishta.com, some are still being approached. The show is about a matrimony office through which couples meet.”

“There have been several rumours about the show that YRF is making for a popular entertainment channel. However, contrary to reports, these prominent film stars will only be making special appearances,” said the source.

The rehearsals, costumes and the look of the show have already been finalised. The show will be directed by Rishabh Seth and will go on air in October.

YRF spokesperson said, “YRF is working on various television concepts, which are right now at different stages of development and are untitled. We will make an announcement when everything is in place.”
