When Shah Rukh Khan was still a struggler in the 1990s, Hema Malini had cast him as the lead in Dil Aashna Hai (1992). Shah Rukh has never forgotten that kindness and, when he heard that Hema was shooting near his home at Bandstand, he dropped in on the sets to pay his respects. |
Hema was naturally thrilled to see SRK and they spent quite some time reliving old memories.
Our source said, “The unit of Tell Me O Khuda was shooting at KK Manzil, next to SRK’s house with Esha Deol, Arjan Bajwa and Chandan Roy Sanyal. The entire set was abuzz as they saw SRK. He headed straight for Hemaji who was present with the director Mayur Puri, and greeted her. Hemaji was pleasantly surprised and SRK met everyone with a lot of affection. SRK stayed on the sets for close to 45 minutes and fondly recalled the experience of shooting for Dil Aashna Hai and the early years of his career.”
Another source said, “When SRK, who was relaxing at his house, learnt that there was a shoot in progress nearby, he inquired about who was shooting there. When he heard that it was Hema Malini, he immediately went to meet her. SRK still remembers his struggling days and the fact that Hemaji readily gave him a lead role in her directorial debut film, Dil Aashna Hai. It went on to become SRK’s debut as well, although he had signed Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Deewana earlier. He spoke at length with Hemaji, inquired about the film and even wished Esha luck for her comeback vehicle.”

Hema confirmed the news and said, “Yes, he came to see me and Esha. I was shooting next to his house and it was very sweet of him to drop in to wish me. He has always shown respect for me and it was very nice of him.”

Hema Malini has decided to go all out to restart her daughter Esha’s Bollywood career with Tell Me Oh Khuda. As Esha plays a girl who has to figure out who her real father is, Hema’s film has four veteran cinematographers, who will shoot different episodes of the film’s four lead actors. The renowned cinematographers on board are Grant Appleton, Hayk Kirakosyan, Carlos Catalan and Burak Turan. While Burak Turan will shoot Rishi Kapoor’s scenes in Turkey, Vinod Khanna’s parts will be shot in Rajasthan. Director Mayur Puri said, “First, we will shoot Esha’s scenes with Rishi in Turkey, followed by Vinod Khanna’s scenes. Then I will shoot the third and fourth portions. The four cinematographers will shoot the different segments to give each part a distinct look and flavour.” Isn’t this film’s plot similar to Dil Ashna Hai which Hema Malini had directed in 1991? Puri replied, “My film and Hemaji’s Dil Aashna Hai are based on a quest. I narrated two to three ideas to Hemaji and she loved this one. Maybe she’s fascinated by the quest format.” |
Hema Malini’s long awaited production for daughter Esha finally sees the light of day
The long-in-the-pipeline film, which Hema Malini wanted to produce for her daughter, Esha is finally taking shape.
Tentatively titled Tell Me Oh Khuda, the film will have a girl (Esha) in search of her father. Arjan Bajwa will play the role of her supportive boyfriend.
The subject seems uncannily similar to Hema’s first and only directorial venture, Dil Aashna Hai where Divya Bharati played a girl in search of her mother. Shah Rukh Khan had played the supportive boyfriend in the earlier film. Arjan, who is thrilled to be working in Hema’s film, says, “When we met I was numb. I just stared at her (Hema). When she told me she liked my work in Fashion I was on cloud nine. Of course, I immediately agreed to do the film. It is Esha’s relaunch.” The film will be directed by Mayur Puri who wrote the dialogue for Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om. Puri was also the associate director for Dhoom. That’s when Mayur first met Esha and her mother. Tell Me Oh Khuda is now in the pre-production stage and is expected to go on the floors by the end of this year. |
