Mani Ratnam is keen to cast Ranbir Kapoor in his next film Azan

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 27, 2009)

Ranbir Kapoor has every reason to be happy. Post the success of his solo-starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, he is being considering by top notch filmmakers. Mani Ratnam, is one of those considering Ranbir for their forthcoming film.

Mani, who is currently busy with Raavana, is already making plans for his next film, Azan, which is a pro-Muslim film. Although the director is still in the scripting process, he wants to cast Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.

A source says, “After the release of Raavana in May next year, Mani will start working for Azan. Unlike the films releasing in Bollywood of late, which focuses on either Jehad or Islam, this is a pro-Muslim film which will portray Muslims in a positive light. The title of the film is the name of the lead character as he will be born during Azan (The Muslim summons to prayer, called by the muezzin from a minaret of a mosque five times a day).”

Mani is very impressed with Ranbir’s acting skills and is keen to have him on board. The source adds, “After seeing Ranbir’s progress as an actor, Mani sir is keen to have him in the lead role in the film. Ranbir has not played such a role till date and it is sure to be his breakthrough performance. Till now, Ranbir has played a young boy, a mature man (Bachna Ae Haseeno), a Sardar (Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year) and now seeing him portray a Muslim character, will be a different ballgame altogether. Mani sir is still in the scripting process and will complete it early next year. The film is slated to hit the floors in August next year.”

Ranbir Kapoor remained unavailable for comment.

John and director Sabal reconsider their decision to cast Jacqueline Fernandez

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2009)

Jacqueline Fernandez John Abraham

Jacqueline Fernandez, who  made her Bollywood debut in Aladin, was signed for a film by Sabal Shekhawat opposite John Abraham. Now it seems that John and Sabal, who are close friends, are having second thoughts about having Jacqueline as their lead actress.
A source said, “Jacqueline was finalised for this untitled film before Aladin released. At that time, Sabal was still in the scripting process and thought that Jacqueline was suitable for the role. John too thought that she was the right choice.”

“Sabal’s film is a thriller and requires a glamorous and sporty actress. Although Jacqueline fits the bill, Sabal and John are now considering other options.” added the source.

Sabal said, “Nothing has been finalised yet. We had a couple of meetings with Jacqueline but we haven’t arrived at a conclusion.” Is he looking for a younger face? “No. On the contrary, we are looking for an older face,” he replied.

“We had finalised Jacqueline but there are several other aspects to look into, like the film’s budget. We are in talks with several studios  and only once that is settled, we can talk about finalising the lead actress,” said Sabal.

Hrithik Roshan to undergo serious physical transformation for Sanjay Khan’s Welcome to the Jungle; will beef up for the role for a sporty, muscular look

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 07, 2009)

Hrithik Roshan is set to get under the skin of the character for his forthcoming film, Welcome to the Jungle, produced by Sanjay Khan. After the actor finishes shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish early next year for which he will put on oodles of weight, he will lose it all to sport a muscular look.

A source says, “Welcome to the Jungle is an adventure film which will see Hrithik in a never-seen-before avatar. The actor will undergo tremendous physical transformation for his role. Hrithik, who plays a paraplegic in Guzaarish, was asked to put on weight as his role didn’t require him to be physically fit. Now, after the shoot ends, Hrithik will work out extensively to sport a muscular look for Welcome to the Jungle.”

Hrithik Roshan Sanjay Khan

Commenting on the project, Sanjay Khan says, “Welcome To The Jungle is my property and will be directed by Farukh Kabir. It is still in the scripting process and things have yet to be finalised. We haven’t finalised the cast yet, but Zayed Khan is one of the actors being considered for the role. Hrithik is also being considered. If he has the time and likes the script, he will be part of the film.”

When quizzed about the physical transformation that Hrithik will undergo for the film, he says, “Yes, there will be a major transformation as you say. But I haven’t finalised or signed anyone. The actors signed will have to undergo a drastic change as compared to their current look. It is a good family adventure story for the masses and all age groups.”

Priyanka Chopra

After playing 12 roles of bride-to-be in What’s Your Raashee?, Priyanka Chopra is finally playing the role of a bride, not to one man but seven different men. The actress is gearing up for yet another multiple role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next titled 7 Husbands.

A source reveals, “Vishal was very impressed with Priyanka while working with her in Kaminey. He always referred to her as a dedicated and devoted actress. While scripting for 7 Husbands, without any second thought, he made up his mind to cast the actress in the movie. Vishal also had seen the rushes and promos of What’s Your Raashee? with her 12 different avatars and thought she carried it off really well and could do justice to her film.”

The source continues, “In 7 Husbands, Priyanka will again be seen in seven different avatars of wives to seven different men. She will have different get ups for each wife. The seven different actors for the role of husbands haven’t been finalized as yet. They are in look out for serious actors who might not be A-listers.”

“The movie is still in the scripting process. The movie will go on floors next year after Priyanka’s dates are available and the seven actors are finalized,” adds the source.

Priyanka Chopra remained unavailable for the comment.
